Aegis Rising

Aegis Rising: S.S. SEGRAN

A volcano erupts causing an entire civilization to find a new home in a new and strange place. Natural disasters cannot be avoided and the author takes us back to 500 BC where the survivors of this disaster find join forces with the natives of the island where they find themselves learning new customs, cultures and proving that different races can co-exist. Finding this beautiful and peaceful world allows each side to explore their own resources and the powers that are held within the confines of their minds which most would think were superhuman.

As the story flashes forward to the present five young teens find himself or herself stranded in a place called Dema-ki after their plane crashes due to a storm that no one foretold. With the fates against them it appeared that they might not survive but the plane crashes in this remote and hidden valley and what happens when the awake from their fall will change their lives forever. Five young teens, five Elders lead their people in this remote and beautiful place and an ancient prophesy that guides the village and keeps them alive. As they find themselves being carried from the plane by what they cannot believe are huge bears that appeared out of nowhere, the five young teens will face many dangers, pray to go home, face many who will deceive them and learn that some can be trusted and others cannot. But something else befalls the people of this place as some of the adults who went hunting are falling prey to a mysterious illness that if not stopped could wipe them all out. Just what is causing so many to become ill is the job of several to find out as the chief scientist creates a way to drop a specific crystal in the water of several lakes to learn if the water is contaminated or is it something else?

But, the five as they are referred to might just be the answer to what these people are looking for but each one of the teens having their own wants, needs and personalities, have the same goal and that is to return home. Friendships and loyalties are formed as Akol and Huyani two of the teens living in this place befriend them, care for them and hope that they will remain. Safety is an issue and when the five decide to escape and try to find their way home, what they find is the wreckage from the plane and one young man named Kody hopes to find the answers to what happened to his father, the pilot of the plane but none are found.

There are so many unanswered questions and as the five are returned to the village after trying to fend for themselves, one of the residents dies from this mysterious illness and the Elders enlist the help of several others to explore and find the source of the contamination.

Marian, Kody, Tegan, Aari and Jag all are different and yet bound together by friendship and now hoping to learn more about the people that are caring for them and why they have been singled out to fulfill the prophecy, be trained to learn how to enhance their abilities while a dangerous corporation called The Phoenix Cooperation is the reason for more than these people know. As each teen agrees to learn more about his/her powers and explore their many sides, the bond that as bound them for so long gets stronger. But, sixth senses kick in and another group of teens works against them as three others try to infiltrate their neyra or shelter and learn more about these visitors in order to get rid of them but why? The first two parts of the prophecy deal with Earth, Wind and Fire and the color or their eyes. The prophecy predicted that five teens of five prophets would fall from a fiery bird from the sky and be the salvation of a dying village. One boy and his friends are out to destroy the five but why?

Learning what happened to them and wondering why no one has come looking for them they realize after viewing the wreckage of the plane that the elements that would have been left there and the fact that pieces of the plane remained lets them know that they are truly isolated and no one is looking for them. Do they wonder about their parents or families? How well do they adjust to their new lives?

Test one is the image assessment where they have been given as special crystal to hold on to and hopefully will see an image just germane to each one of them. As each one is given an Elder as a mentor their training begins while some of the villagers learn that the water supply is tainted and are seeking the source. But, without help and an anecdote more will die and for that they might have to entrust the Five with the job of learning more. Can they combat the Corporation that has created the poison? Why single out these people and will their powers be strong enough to win? Mercenaries: Can the teens help the villagers defeat them?

Loyalties, trust, super powers, understanding, kindness, fear, danger are just some of the issues brought to light in this novel. Teens working together and helping adults that they really need to trust but why and will they survive? Will the ever return home and what will their mission be when all their training is said and done? What is the fate of Kody’s father? Why can’t they find him?

As the five young teens assimilate within the society of the Elders they begin to explore their own special senses or powers and agree to train with them in order to become stronger and able to survive. Kody develops his sense of smell and his ability to concentrate more. Jag his physical skills and strength where as Mariah learns telepathic skills and Tegan how to fly and mind link where Aari learns how to fight.

Each one with an Elder until something happens that causes everything to stop. The Elders with the help of the five learn the cause of the illnesses of some of the members of their society and they all ban together to take down the company that is poisoning their water. The Elders group into four separate groups and many volunteer to come along on the mission. But, first they learn about the death of two of their members that were seeking the answers that they just received. As the author relates how they get into the mine, each using their special skills, some able to communicate with animals, others seeing things that most would not, the author relates to what lengths they would go to in order to defend their land and protect their own. But, within their community we learn of Hutar and his group pretending to befriend the five but having other plans in mind. Hutar unforgiving and blaming the Elders for the death of his father and his uncle he turns against the five soon to be punished. As the Elders and the members of the groups manage to take down many of the miners, one man stands in their way and hopes with the help of his Osprey will stop what they have started but not before mass explosions, many deaths and a definite fight to the finish.

A deadly threat to their village and civilization results in taking drastic measures against the mining company. Quest Mining is owned by a dangerous man who will stop at nothing to obtain the mineral he wants regardless of the lives that are lost, the deaths incurred by his own men as long as the end result is a success. Adrian Black is a dangerous man and those working for him are expendable. Arianna Abdul chief geologist of Quest Mining, Vladimir Ajadif: Chief Executive and The mysterious Boss that is heard but not seen. Up against some powerful and dangerous odds and people the Elders choose to include the Five young teens in their mission to take down the mining company. Ashack, Nageau, Saiyu, Tayoka and Tikina risk their lives, take dangerous chances and work with the five young teens to create a plan that hopefully will stop what has been started. But, getting into the mining company, taking the place of the miners and the entire operation will cost many lives. Akira once again links with an eagle, the wolves and guardians come to their aid, but the injuries are many and even two elder’s fate hangs in the balance. As Jag uses his strength and intelligence to overcome some really obstacles when several Elders are in danger. Tegan uses her mind along with Aari to find a way out of the mine and dangerous situation. Kody works with Nageau and proves that he is more than must a teen but can sense and see things others cannot. Will they be able to stop the mining company before more lives are lost? The water is poisoned who is responsible? Will they come out alive or will they die trying? Beasts that were unleashed and so dangerous they can hardly be stopped will the Five and the Elders are able to defend themselves against these Marauders? What is the purpose of what the Mining Company really wants? The answers are many but you won’t find them or learn them unless you enter the village, the mine and join in the mission along with the Five. An ending so explosive and terrifying that will let you know that both sides are not done yet and there is much more to come. Aegis Rising: they have just begun to rise and the Five still have to learn what is next if and when this mission is completed. What is their final fate? Will they ever return home? Whose watching them? What about the Mining Company? The answers will come when the next installment if penned by author S.S. Segran.
