Beyond the Orion Nebula: Edgar Guedez
Intertwining two worlds and bringing them together is one underlying theme within the pages of the novel Beyond The Orion Nebula. Can hybrid humans, aliens and people from another galaxy live together as one without knowing it? Can a group from the Alidonian System infiltrate the world of humans on a planet called Waterworld without the inhabitants knowing it or even becoming aware of their presence? Two young princesses, one fighting for her life the other hoping to find a refuge for their safety are on the run. In the middle of a war against their cousin Narbonne, hoping to take the throne away from their father, the ruler of an intergalactic empire where these young girls did reside, we hear the voices of not only Arianne and Amelie the two princesses but their cousin too. Hoping to gain control, find out where the princesses are, he uses everything in his power to learn their whereabouts only to be plagued with many obstacles. During this encounter the princesses’ become entangled in a serious nova explosion causing their fleet to incur irreparable damage and forcing them to explore an unexplored planet called Waterworld in order to be safe and allow Amelie to recover from her injuries.
While they are focused on her recovery, Narbonne is using every resource available to find their location while fighting their father’s army at the same time. Many discoveries were made about Waterworld including the fact that those living here eat meat from “dead animal species.” Another point is the air quality and the pollution level being acceptable and although they are vegetarians those on this planet would be safe for consumption. Discussing the limited technological advances yet not selling them short before deciding to land there they review the Eudoris World which was a heaven for gambling and illegal banking and much more. This is the world that Narbonne aligned with and hopefully with the help of Lieutenant General Bash and many more they would succeed. Their technology is cutting edge but introducing too many advances might put them on the alert. Reminding the Bash of past mishaps Princess Arianne seems to understand the gravity of each situation.
Their goal is to assimilate and infiltrate the human world becoming friends with a former fighter pilot and ski instructor. Hoping that using the expertise of one of these men would help them fight against their cousin. Taking a ride on a glider with Gus Schneider alerts him to the fact that something about one of the sisters is unique. Both are quite smart, add some humor to their quest and hopefully will be able to inject nano chips in both men making their jobs so much easier. As you get the know the sisters you realize that having these chips in their brains allows them to process information faster, locate places and distances and much more. Technology that we would love to have right now and discussing just how backward we really are is brought to light in this novel. Can two worlds live together in peace? Can humans and extra terrestrials find their way to co-exist? Can we learn to understand the problems they face and help overcome ours?
Things change, events happen as Prince Narbonne experiences many loses, the Princesses become friends with both Gus and his cousin Roger and the realization that life might exist in other places would astound both men. Beyond the Orion Nebula is where their galaxy is and what lies beyond will open up new worlds to the humans, help them realize how interrelated they are to these two aliens and what their future might hold. Wars, love, alien life, deceits, betrayals and the hope to create one race but just how you won’t believe. Coming from the Alidonian System of Worlds the two Princesses have fled the war and the destruction. Many are still looking for them and have yet to locate where they are hiding. Waterworld or the Planet Earth is where they reside and the differences in our technology are not that great but the advances they have made are. What will happen when both Roger and Gus realize just who these two sisters are, how far away their home really is and the lengths they will go to in order to protect their planet and coexist in theirs.
The technology describing is quite interesting and compelling and you begin to wonder what is fact and what is fiction. Learning more about what they plan to do, why Amelie has not confided in Gus her real identity and what happens when she realizes that they will be bound together forever, how will he deal with the truth when it comes out?
Roger has been given an opportunity to join a research program in Chile hoping to use his skills to find out if any other life forms are out there. Gus, has decided to continue working at his father’s lodge, giving ski lessons and enjoys the wild rides and the dreams that Amelie creates not realizing at times that they are real. Is it the power of suggestion that keeps his mind from recalling what is really happening or is it some other type of control?
Just where is the Orion Nebula and who does this link to the Princesses and their mission. It is a diffuse nebula that is located south of Orion’s Belt in the constellation of Orion. Taking Roger and Michel to their home planet and on a journey that would explain where they came from and whom they are is quite exciting for readers and these two men. But, facing off with her cousin, the lives that are lost on both sides brings to light just how dangerous things can get in space and to what degree Narbonne will go to dethrone their father. But, things change quickly as one princess decides to go into suspended sleep to regain her strength and upon her awakening and the return of the others she presents them with her daughter.
Gus takes over command of a specific group of men and the story gets quite interesting as Russians, Japanese and people from other countries become involved. Imagine flying to Jupiter, handling fighter planes and what they see will change the course of their lives and space travel forever. Families that do not know where their loved ones have been for months and why they lost their jobs and Princess Amelie and Gus become part of a huge group and those involved will enter the world of Star Trek or even Star Wars. Learning more about physics for the universe Roger and the rest learned about time-stop- holes and much more. The advanced technology is astounding and you wonder what is fact and what is fiction. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could fly around the world and to places so quickly and unseen? Wouldn’t it be great if we could communicate with nano chips and not have to worry about cell phone or cell towers? Just how many would join Amelie’s air force? What will the end result be when facing off with Narbonne and who will come out the victor?
Intergalactic wars, family strife, conflicts that cannot be repaired and a concern with contact with Prince Alimar when the last encounter was too close, almost cost the life of one of the princesses and placing others in danger. Roger finally realizing his dream and the others learning about-unexplored regions and galaxies.
But, Prince Narbonne is relentless and will stop at nothing to win along with Commander Noonan who seems to have things under control. Having the FTL drive working a whole cycle ahead and describing its function makes you wonder just which side is going to win. When Gus’s father takes ill and is placed in a healing machine just what does he hear, what does he want to know and what will happen if he learns the truth?
Threats to the national security a focus on an artifact, Arianne assuming the role of Queen and many countries banning together as one. What will the final outcome be and how did Norbonne find out about the missing scientists, engineers, astrophysicists, and the orbital craft with steal capabilities and its uses? Why target the artifact? What about Dr. Michel Neville’s role? How will this all play out in the end? Will they get Princesses Amelie and Amanda to safety? What about Gus and Roger?
Two sides working for one goal to dominate the world but in different ways. One wants to create a totalitarian government and the other wants a Parliamentary Monarch with elections. Which side wins when one has the CIA and FBI behind them and the other interplanetary brilliance, world-renowned scientists and the support of the queen and her fleet? Targeting the Alidonian Artifact was Norbonne’s strategy. But, when you read page 280 you will find out just how smart the other side is and more. An ending so explosive and a realization that the world has changed so much as one-side wins, the other has some losses and one family deals with pain. Just what is next for this fleet and who will come out the victor? Read Beyond the Orion Nebulla to find out what other worlds are out there, what amazing technologies have been developed and just what happens when humans and hybrids intertwine. The author gives readers much pause for thought. Think about what would happen if we had all of this technology. Wormholes are not a thing of the future.
