Angel Killer: P.J. Nunn
Imagine the fear on the face of a parent when they learn their child has been killed. Imagine the fear of an entire community when they learn that there will be more deaths to come. Imagine that these deaths and the young children that have been murdered are not the only ones but other cases in other states will be linked to these murders. How can a young child just disappear without anyone’s knowledge? How can a young child walking home from a friend’s house that should take not more than 5 minutes be abducted, no screams, no struggles and no movements that would alert neighbors? How can a neighbor allow a small child to walk home alone? When the bodies start to mount up and the similarities are found who will find the answers and who will bring justice for these children?
Each child that is found has been killed in the same way. Their blood drained and then their body cleansed with some type of bleach or chlorine. But, when bodies are found within the confines of a simple plastic garbage bag and someone is grave robbing and opening graves why does it appear that no one will come forward and no one cares? Enter Dr. Shari Markham, a psychologist for the Dallas Police Department. Shari seems to be able to identify with the victims and finds that her own investigation into the murders and working feverishly with her team to find out who is behind the murders and those that preceded them, leaves her wide open for the killer to come after someone close to her.
Enter a hot and definitely savvy FBI Agent named Luke and the chemistry between him and Shari runs high. Able to solve murders, really quite and keen in his observations he observes the scenes but with a more fluent and accurate eye. When looking for clues where Ashley, the first victim was found something draws his attention as he hears footsteps but the chase left Shari and Luke not able to catch they person they were in pursuit of. But, another body turns up this time a little boy, no ID, no one claiming he does mystery/thriller writer P.J. Nunn create missing adding to the suspense.
Lieutenant Brian Grant, ME McMillan and a cast of characters that will keep you riveted to the printed page as they hunt for clues to find a killer. More bodies are uncovered, links to others are found and several notes that might shed some definitely light in the darkness before it’s too late. Several other murders are linked and references to disturbed cemetery graves are made and someone in plain sight is hiding within a community and no one knows it. Across state lines and inter-police cooperation, Shari hopes to find the killer, profile him/her before the body count rises. But, when Luke keeps showing up at her doorstep and warning signs and red flags run high will she realize that the killer has targeted her and possibly some she cares about as she chastises her for not keeping her weapon close at hand.
Things start to heat up as the bodies pile up and the suspect list is zero. Clues as to what the killer does to his victim points to someone that is a sadist, rapist and drains the blood of victims. But the end result is the police and FBI came up with very little. When the case is turned over to the FBI Shari and Luke become the primaries on the case, the police force in Dallas has other cases to handle and a small task force is established but not before Shari received an email that would send up more than must red flags. Her family in danger yet she sometimes forgets her own safety and fortunately for her Luke is there to protect her 24/7. With guards round the clock for her and her family how can someone get to her and is her granddaughter Angel in danger since she resembles Ashley the first little girl whose body they found? But, who might be hiding in plain sight that seems to be invisible?
Mistakes are made and more bodies are found and the clues lead them nowhere. Teens missing, children abducted in plain sight and one killer whose aim is to get Shari but why has yet to be revealed. With things getting too close and tense Luke begins to back off from their friendship sending Shari in a tailspin not understanding why. Confrontations, anger, her life and her family’s lives on the line can Shari, the FBI and the police find out who is behind the murders? Then something happens that endangers her life when all she wants is to be able to do something normal and the complexion of the investigation changes. With her trust never wavering from agent Van her bodyguard, why does Luke want him replaced? Tempers flare, the heat and energy rises leading to an ending you just won’t expect. When Shari and her daughter-in-law decide to spend some time shopping little does she know what is about to happen next.
Deceptions, betrayals, lies and one man who is so demented he eludes capture but for how long. When Shari and Angel, her granddaughter become the prime target of this killer will Luke and the team get there in time. With no chance of escape, drugged and her senses dulled will she be the next victim? Questioning teens, dealing with the facts and every time the suspect winds up dead. Just how does this person stay so far ahead of them and who is this person that knows her schedule, watches others, emails her and cannot be found.
An ending with a serious slant or twist that will surprise readers before the author ties the events together. An ending that will make you wonder just whom you can trust and whether you are ever really safe. Will Angel and Shari be next? Will Luke ever tell her why he wants to leave the case? The twists, turns and cleverly crafted plot will lead you to an ending that will make readers wait with baited breath for the next Shari Markham Mystery and hopefully our author will bring back Luke. He calls himself the Angel of Light who brings darkness and death to those he touches. Will Luke and Shari be able to darken his aura and extinguish his light?
