Rescue from Sana’a: Gerard De Marigny
Mission Log #2: Archangel
Watching the news there have been many incidents where our embassies and those of other countries have been attacked by terrorists. Most without any warning and others attacked by car bombs, gun attacks or suicide bombers. On December 5 of last year the defense ministry in Sana’a Yemen was attacked by a car bomb and gun attack. This was the worst attack they had seen in months as gunmen stormed the defense ministry in the center of Sana’a killing at least 52 people. Ripped from the headlines and straight out of a newscast author Gerard de Marigny once again enlightens readers, the public, our government and that of Yemen to the realities behind the thinking of terrorists that will do anything to disgrace our country take down their enemies.
The Watchman Agency under the guide of Scipio has been enlisted to evaluate and report on the security of the embassy in Sana’a. After taking steps to assess the basic security procedures, the technology in place and the attack on Benghazi, security requests at the embassy in Libya was discounted which led to the attack that took place in Benghazi. When the head of the agency Chris De Niro stated this fact and spoke with those in charge several other points were made regarding the diplomatic personal security of the embassy, who was in charge and the fact that diplomatic security was under resourced. But, what is about to happen will send shockwaves across many countries and continents as the Watchman Agency completes their assessment and realizes that the embassy staff is not trained in case of emergencies. Those in charge are not listening as we hear the voices of Rigoni, Proctor, Woods and Riggy discussing their findings, what happened when De Niro discussed that the State Foreign Relations Committee passed a proposal for more security but will it be too late? With the Gulf Co-operations council scheduled to leave the country and elections coming about the country according to their expert opinion is ripe for a civil war. Author Gerard De Marigny explains the thinking of this group, allows readers to know those in charge and just what President Nasir al-Wudhayshi might have in store. When Intel showed that the embassies in many countries were prime for attack they were closed. So, why was this on reopened? Why wouldn’t the head of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs take heed to Scipio’s words of warning?
Nasir al-Wudhayshi had one goal in mind and that was to attack the Americans when he felt their guard was down. A huge party at the embassy was the prime place and hiring four women pretending to be dancers for the party his weapon. But, not just an ordinary one. These women would not use guns, bombs attached to their body or any visible means of attack. They would have Surgically Implanted Explosive Devices that could not be detected by any type of security. Resourceful, insightful but will they succeed in their mission? Listening to his voice, hearing what he plans it seems that he might have the situation under control. But, if he succeeds in overtaking the embassy just how many lives will be lost and who will take the blame?
Scipio stood at the gate of the embassy and for some reason did not want to leave. He spoke with Abdullah Aqlani, the head of the embassy’s Yemeni security team who claimed that the they had everything under control and the embassy was sealed off by cement blocks. His troops had armored cars stations inside the gate and no matter what Scipio said he did not heed his warning. But, a startling revelation would change his perception and maybe his outlook as Scipio reveals just how dangerous the situation might be, the Intel he has on his family and what might happen if they discount his warning. Added in Briana Lopez, the Director for the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has one the eye of favor of Scipio but her stubbornness won’t allow her to realize that what he’s telling her might save lives.
The site for the event and where the new embassy is located is the Sana’a Sheraton whose workers were fired until they were given background checks. But, the picketers outside should have been more than just a red flag for those in charge as protesting their jobs is one thing but what else they have in mind will give you chills. When Scipio states that what appears to be handled just might not be and that like a storm that will destroy houses, gale winds and torrential rains, something more powerful you might say than an earthquake will do more than rock their world on a scale of 10 on the Richter scale. Gut feeling yet with no authority to insist that they evacuate and cancel the event what happens should alert everyone that what appears to be really is not and that anyone is capable of causing death. A final check and you meet the rest of the team, Gunny, Roger and Charlie as they prepare to leave the country but first hear the voice of Nasir as he outlines the mission, where the bombs will explode and how and praises Allah for his success.
The event began but Scipio decided to remain. But, when he heads for the airport and decides to leave just what brings him back?
A black stretch limo pulls up driving past what appears to be picketers. Stops at the embassy checkpoint and faces a marine. But, the action is just beginning as four women in dance costumes hope to get through and what happens next starts a change of events that will shake embassy, bring out the Watchman Team and the events that the author describes will remind readers that this can happen and has happened. The fast paced novella will keep you glued to the printed page, holding your breath at the embassy is under siege, the implanted bombs explode and the end result will bring out Master Gunnery Sergeant, Roger, Duke, Scipio and the rest of team. Coordinating the mission is Scipio and the technology used; the skill and the events are heart stopping. Sometimes you decide to show up where you are not supposed to be as the Ambassador to Yemen did. Putting his life in danger, hostages taken will Vin Rigoni, Tim Proctor and the rest of the team is able to take any of these men out after they killed some of their own. With the Captain of the security team in Yemen deciding whether to cooperate or not things heat up and sides are drawn. Challenging his team was not the way to go and their skill in getting things under control quite remarkable.
Listen to the voices of the terrorists as they overtake the embassy, kill some of the marines and think they have won. When Scipio decides to take things into his own hands just how he attempts to trick the terrorists will make you stand up and applaud. But, the danger is real and the end result will require planning, cooperation and trickery as the AQAP Captain inside the ballroom radio’s his lieutenant telling him of his failure. What he instructs will make you want to turn away and the fast paced ending filled with surprises will allow readers to wonder whether the team can stop what these terrorists have started.
The plan in motion, the hostages on alert, the team in place and the action begins but when all is said and done one man gets away. Just who wins and who loses you will have to find out for yourself. An embassy under siege. Red tape that could should have been cut and resources that were not given can cost lives. Will anyone learn from what they are about to read? Will those in these embassies receive the training to protect those within it? Read Rescue from Sana’a to find out. Once again author Gerard de Marigny provides a plot with real life incidents, well-developed characters and a team of men who are unstoppable.
