Right Click: Lisa Becker
Renee, Shelley, Ashley, Mark and Ethan have returned in another romp, twist and wild journey into the art of emails, friendship, disappointments, fears and distrust in this final installment titled Right Click. As the story opens we are reminded that Shelley has moved away and Renee is having best friend withdrawal symptoms and is concerned that she might be replaced by someone named Amber. But, with the attempted humor and sarcasm of our new and over stressed mother, Shelley, she manages at first to bear up!
The story moves along as we hear about Shelley’s new job, her relationship with Nick, the behind closed doors scenes and her new found love of Yoga. Friendships are strained in this last installment and deceits are revealed as Mark learns something that might change his relationship with Renee. A simple trip to get a pedicure, a gossip magazine reveals a hidden truth about Mark’s fiancé Cassidy. Since the entire group dislikes her feels she is a snob, manipulator and wrong for their Mark, Renee is chosen or you might say given the job of showing him the evidence of her infidelity. Reactions are not what Renee expected and Mark is outraged, wants to be by himself and refuses to come to terms with what is right in front of him. How can you blame him after researching the perfect stone for her ring, dating her and hoping to find true love! Mark needs love, understanding and finally Shelley to take care of Cassidy.
Renee is strong but her moral compass and ethics set in when her boss, for whatever reason insists that she take on a client and rather than deal with someone whose ethics and manner of business she dislikes, she quits her job, mopes around, eats chocolate and soon needs more than just a workout. With Shelley at her email side and enlisting her fiancé Ethan for second support, they hope that she will finally get out of bed, stop eating chocolate and find a way back into the work force. But, jobs are hard to come by and she is now has the opportunity to strike out on her own with the severance package she managed to get and the support of some good friends.
There is much more to this story as Shelley is also going through her own period of adjustment and at times you can tell that her bold attitude, strong remarks and wild innuendos just might be a front for someone hiding her true feelings. Every story does not have happy events as Renee faces the sudden death of her father and realizes that he won’t be there to walk her down the aisle and share in her happiness. Things fall apart even before as she stands up to her boss in a bold way and winds up quitting her job. Support comes from everywhere especially Shelley and Ethan but Renee succumbs to what many others do: Binge eating and that proves to be a mistake.
Weekends away with friends tend to mend some wounds but not all. Ashley questions her parenting skills and whether she is cut out to be just a mother until something sparks her back into the fold and changes it all. Opinionated, self righteous at times, caring in her own way and often trying to emulate Shelley’s humor, Ashley presents and provides what some might think the prim and proper view of life but in her own unique way.
Emails continue to flow between all of the friends as Mark finally comes to grips with Cassidy’s infidelity but something happens and he falls back into old patterns until the girls come to his rescue but you won’t believe how.
Shelley and Nick invite them to Vegas hoping Renee will get back to herself and finally realize all that she has that is special and wonderful. Starting her own business was the first step but enjoying life is the next but her birthday would remind her of what she lost and the special day she had planned for her and her dad bring tears flooding back. To this I can identify because losing my sister brings back memories on her birthday, my birthday where she would present me with special prank gifts and short puns and poems that were hilarious and we’d go shopping for clothes for me at all the stores she liked. Memories are priceless, as Renee would email to all readers if she had the time.
Planning the wedding, dealing with jealousies, old boyfriends, Mark’s new flame and just life itself at times stresses Renee. But, will her best friend and bestie friend Shelley stay true to their friendship or will Amber win out? The hilarious part is when they try to cheer her up and do what you might state as a pun contest or one up punners! They are hilarious and of course to appreciate them you have to read them for yourself. The event of the year will be Renee and Ethan’s wedding but along the way we meet Ethan’s old girlfriend who wants to stay with the happy couple for a while since she claims to have received a promotion at work and needs to relocate. What would you do if you were Renee? Handle it calmly or demand that she never call again! Wait until you find out what she does and how Shelley backs her up! Insecurities reign over much of the story as Renee often has doubts about herself in business and whether Ethan will back out. Shelley might be self-absorbed with an ego so inflated it could fill a fleet of air balloons, but her friendship and sometimes humorous wisdom shines through just when you least expect it and Renee needs it.
As Ethan and Nick begin to bond during their weekend away with Ethan’s finance team, the group had the luxury of being catered to 24/7, a private jet, luxury rooms and much more making readers and the characters know that even a five star hotel pales in comparison to the one described in this book. So, what happens to a PR person and her finance wizard? What about all those cupcakes, chocolate and candies that Renee is downing before the big day? Will she lose the weight after joining Curves? Will she walk down the aisle or toddle? Read Right Click and double click your way to humor, fun, and romance. Friendships that grow, others that bloom and a group of friends that will remain together forever! Told in email format this enjoyable novel will bring tears, laughter, smiles and lots of cravings to each and every reader as they are constantly doing lunch, partying, snacking and just having plain fun. Once again Lisa Becker strikes a hot comedy iron filled with short stories provided by each character, puns that will make you laugh until your sides hurt and characters that will you never forget. What is Mark’s fate? Will he finally ask out Marnie who works for Ethan? Will she get the seal of approval from the group or will she too be cast aside along with Cassidy? Right Click: As Shelley would say let’s give this book: Five: Mwah’s. But, let’s not forget little Siobhan who provides much of Ashley’s frustrations, joy and has made her realize that the simple word: MAMA is priceless.
