Murmurs of Insanity: Gerrie Ferris Finger
Artists create paintings that depict a specific time period, an emotional experience of a specific era. Some are landscapes and others might be portraits. Each one different and conveying an artist’s message. But, what about art depicted in macabre manner that is depicted by orchestrating different murders the way an artist would create a showing at a gallery some within this novel create murders to mirror their art form.
Devis Dontel/AKA Big DD-McFersen sat in a court of law with a smug face and a young lawyer dressed to the nines. Richard Lake and Moriah Dru hopes that testimonies would put this man away forever. But, sometimes things do not go exactly as planned and the drug lord gets off and the threats are made against those who dared to come up against him.
Richard Lake was once married to a woman named Linda who makes a brief appearance in this complex novel. Requesting help from Dru as everyone calls her she needs her to clear her half brother Baxter Carlisle of the charges placed against him for stalking a young girl named Cho. But, things get out of hand real fast we Dru meets Baxter, finds him charming and almost taken in by his demeanor and agrees to help him find a missing young teen named Damien Hansel at the heart of the investigation. There are many players within this novel as the author introduces them one at a time. Portia the judge that has been Moriah’s friend for many years and without whom she might not have the access needed to solve cases. Once a great cop she is on the founder of Child Trace and has been enlisted by Baxter to find Damian and hopefully solve more than one mystery. Cho Martine seems to be the object of his problems and even though she has accused him of stalking her it seems she and Damian have disappeared. This is where things get dicey.
With the help of the friend and one that we would all want to have access to, Webdog, she is able to learn more about Cho, dig deeper in the past of many of those involved and hunt for a serial killer. Arne Trammel and Damien were to meet to discuss a specific art project. One thing led to another and an argument about the project followed as Damien said he refused to do Insanity which when all is said and done fits many of the main characters in this novel that you will meet who turn out to be more than delusional. Cho Martine went missing and is the alibi for Damien when we learn that Arne is dead. Hanged: Murder or Suicide: To be determined by Sergeant Thomas and Felix Kona and others. But, this murder was just the first of several and each one more graphic than the one before as many others are killed in different ways each mirroring a different form of art and each staged so perfectly you would think it was the prelude to an artistic showing of a specific artist’s talents. Joe Hagan of the Atlanta PD is added into the mix as we learn something quite remarkable about Cho. Lies, betrayals, false identities, fake documents and many other deaths as those close to Damian just might succumb to the same killer.
Johndro Eggers is a young teen that witnessed a drug deal and a murder in his Atlanta neighborhood. He is missing along with another teen as the bodies pile up, a foster mother fears for her foster child’s life, others disappear and the end result will surprise readers as the story takes a bizarre twist. Oliver Gilmeath is Baxter’s son and for appearances appears to be devoted to his father. Handling his schedule, his appointments and caring for his every need, Oliver would appear to be the perfect assistant and son. But, many of the characters have dark pasts and hidden secrets that will be revealed and more murders take place as someone close to Oliver is attacked, his life partner is drugged and both Lake and Dru come to odds about how things are handled, who they can truest and how to find Damian. But, Reverend Jennings would enlighten them and hopefully explain more about Johndro to both Lake and Dru, but it’s difficult to understand how kids can survive in a no win environment. As they continue to talk an incident breaks out, shots are fired and decisions are made as both Lake and Dru have to protect themselves, the Reverend and take down the shooters. Sometimes snap decisions are what count and even though protocol might not be followed your hands are tied and the end result is whatever it is.
Just where is Cho Martine? Just who is Cho Martine and what does her father say about her when they finally meet him? What does Oliver have to do with the death of Damian? But, someone is out to silence everyone and the real root behind these murders is money, power, wealth, greed and acceptance. When Baxter is found with a dagger in his back, Dru having gained entry to house as a guest, another body found of his housekeeper, Inger Petersen things get kinky as Baxter is found surrounded by dolls. Viktor Martine helps set the stage for what is about to come and the players are just about all in place. An ending that no one will expect and a killer who thinks he can defy all odds.
Murmurs of Insanity: Listen real close and hear the voices of those that think they can create art in the form of murder and who want to stage their final scene, a plastic surgeon who uncovers a hidden truth about a young girl, an estate left to so many and one who wants it all: Some murmurs just might turn into loud noises, shots, bangs and screams as Lake and Dru have a final showdown with a deranged and demented killer whose passion for power, whose hate for one man just might be more than just a touch of insanity. Author Gerrie Ferris Finger introduces readers to the many different methods of hacking into phones, spoofing, spyware and much more as the research into this area was quite extensive. So, what is the final fate of Lake and Dru when they are accused of handling an incident in their own manner? What’s next for these two? Will they ever tie a permanent knot? Let’s wait and see what the author has planned when she pens the next Moriah Dru and Richard Lake mystery.
Just where are Johndro and his cousin hiding out? Who assists in hoping to find them. Characters that are quite complex, different and a story that will keep readers wanting more of both Lake and Dru. Murmurs of Insanity get my vote for a really cute, well written and fun mystery.
