A photo stained article from a ten year old newspaper with a message: “ I’m Back Miss Me?
Peach Piper is a researcher working for Diane and Justin Kiel a close friend if not more. But, when Justin begins looking into the Labor Day Murders someone catches wind of it and makes sure what he finds is buried along with him. Making the murder look like a drug overdose no one looks into it until Peach insists that his death was not drug related, nor would he take drugs and that something else is at play. Peach is persistent, tenacious, smart, and does her own thing and with the help of another researchers named Annalie, she hopes to learn the truth. A soldier of the Liberty Empire Alliance gunned down her brother Lyle along with Birch Fairmont. There are people within the Common Way that just might be working more than two sides of the fence as we meet Ogden Bush and Walter Fleming. Listening to his condescending ways, understanding his viewpoint and his relationship with Walter and the man behind the Liberty Empire Alliance, Hamilton Brock, readers will come to realize that not everything or everyone is on the up and up and even in prison Brock seems to be running the show.
The conversation in the prison is quite interesting talking about murders, how Brock and his minions destroyed records and members of the militia disappeared. But, just how far would his group go and how far is his influence. Birch and the Common Way were enemies of the Liberty Empire Alliance and the poster children for domestic terrorism. Did he have anything to do with the murder or did he manage to hire someone? In prison he still had a voice and as he said they can put a gun to his head but he will not be silenced. A final question and answer on page 92 will allow readers to wonder about Brock and just how far his power is even within a prison cell.
Annalie was the researcher to take Justin’s place and although she befriended Peach just what was her role and motive. Finding a man in Justin’s apartment Peach did not think he’d return but she was looking into Justin’s death, probing where someone wanted her to leave it alone, will the killer go after her. But, her investigating leads her a man named Frank Macy and his relationship with Drew Fairmont, Diane’s son. As information is released we learn just how dangerous Macy is, the fact that Diane blames him for her son’s suicide or death and the end result will shock readers. Searching Justin’s apartment brought many clues and hints that he left her in order help solve his murder. A poem called The Tiger and a line: What immortal hand or ye! Could frame the fearful symmetry. A name would change it all Alison! What how does she fit in and why did Justin write her name? What did he find that would set Peach on her own collision course and ignite her own raging storm?
A young girl looks for shelter and finds herself the next victim. Wrong place wrong time. Frank Macy and Drew Fairmont were close and when the relationship is revealed other secrets come out as Diane hid something from Cab and when he confronts his mother the revelation would change more than one relationship. As Peach delves further into Justin’s death she finds information about a hit and run accident involving a fourteen year old girl named Alison. Deacon Piper is her brother and tried to protect her and warned her against looking into Justin’s death. Telling her to leave it alone and what did he have against Diane? Added in we learn more about the campaign, why Diane really was not that distraught over the death of her husband and what she did in order to make sure someone paid for his death and why she would withdraw from the face.
Ogden Bush and Walter Fleming have their own agendas and learning more about which side has which mole and who is the mastermind behind trying to eliminate Diane, trying to cast shadows upon her and why the race for governor was so vital, you just won’t believe.
Cab’s girlfriend Lala might not be his mother’s favorite person but as the story unfolds and you realize just what her role is and why that might change. As Diane’s secrets are revealed and Cab learns about a hidden truth will his relationship with Lala change? How will he deal with learning the truth? Two parties who will resort to extortion, murder, conspiracy and corruption just to win an election. An incumbent whose numbers are down. An attorney general who might know something that she does not want brought out. Ramona Cortes is in the headlines and wants the job as she talks about law, order and political corruption. Sometimes a simple piece of paper can bring you down. Sometimes you never know when the raging storm and winds will take aim at you.
A mastermind so diabolical and so cunning you won’t see it coming as information is planted, lies are orchestrated, careers are ruined and one will be victorious. But Who? You won’t believe the electrifying reveal at the end as Cab faces off with someone and anger and rage might win out in the long run but Chayla might be gone and her winds diminished but someone rises to the top and another storm has yet to begin. An ending that will leave readers colder than the coldest Arctic Blast.
As Cab and Peach work together to find out who is after Diane, who is behind the Labor Day murders and who is took out a Frank Macy the author brings to light just how far someone will go for political gain. Author Brian Freeman takes readers inside the political arena where no holds are barred, lies, deceits and deceptions are the rule of thumb and the hurricane season and a raging storm named Chayla create more than just One Season of Fear!
