Tears in the Fabric of Time: Stuart Yates
Within the world there are those that create mosaics, patch quilts or patterns that are flawed. Few have no imperfections and these flaws can appear as seems that are torn, creases in the quilts or tarnished edges in a mosaic. But, when these flaws spill over to the world created by a select few where they can hear your every word, understand your every thought and want to control your every movement because in their world you are far from perfect and do not conform to their way of thinking you are no longer a viable person but are destroyed. They are everywhere and their role or job is to prevent you from thinking, voicing your opinion and having a life free from constraints and ties that would bind you. They are the Silencers and they are everywhere as author Stuart Yates created them along with two other groups: The Militiamen who are also out there rounding up subservient and another group so elusive, so invisible yet there trying to stop what these two groups have already put in place.
Inspector Tiny Tears and his partner are just two victims of these groups as they both find a young girl named Ana coming out of the sewers where these groups have their headquarters, store their information and pretend to be hiding or running in order to escape capture and live their lives as they choose. But, Ana appears to be a young girl but in reality she is not. When questioned at the station about a man who was following her, died in a grotesque manner at first she appears docile and then feral. She is dangerous and will stop at nothing to get away from Tears and Marilyn blindsiding them both. Although she tries to escape injuring both Tears and Marilyn they manage to place her in a cell but what they observe and learn about her and the man following her will stupefy readers and bring you into three different worlds as Tears decides to take Ana back into the sewer as we learn about a young man named Jude, his father and their role in this complex plot. Finding Jude, the Silencers torture both him and his father for not telling why they are in the sewers, which they claim, was to go home and get out but they were hardly believed. Three dangerous groups and one purpose yet to be fully defined. While Tears is trying to recreate what happened in the sewer he falls deeper within and falls prey to two men who try to pry out information from him in the hospital. Realizing that they might not be who they claim to be and his memory seems wiped out he tries to escape only to have it foiled by a guard. But, Ana for some reason comes to his aid and here is where things get more interesting as we learn more about the dead man in the present, the fact that he might not be human and why Marilyn has to find him before it’s too late.
Francisco belongs to the third group who wants to put an end to the Silencers and the Militiamen. However, their headquarters seem to be the sewers too and each group weaves their own plan and their own route hoping to take down the others. Francisco used his job as a ruse to move around, pretended to be weak until he had to take violent action. The story continues with Ana and Tears who are captured and interrogated by another group plus the police are hindered by the man who they thought was dead but regenerated and wants to go home. Hoping to find Tear’s daughter and thinking she might be the link we revisit Tears and the two men that have captured him and Ana and as his memory returns he hopes that he will be able to find the answers in the sewer. The sewers seem to be the link to the entire situation as the Silencers can read minds, these two that have waylaid Marilyn are from another agency and the end result has yet to be decided as they all try to converge on each other with the Silencers hoping to destroy any hope of freedom or democracy.
Can the past, present and future be linked so tightly that one group can control it all? A wormhole or portal within the sewers is where Tears and Ana fell through. A man named Courtney seems to know there every move and has taken it upon himself to keep them in tow as Ana escapes and she tries to find Tears. Added in an old girlfriend named Alice and her husband find out that their daughter has been kidnapped, as the Silencers are everywhere, the militia rounding up people, a young boy named Jude in the wrong place at the wrong time hoping to follow a young girl he thought he knew. Misplaced allegiances, misguided individuals, Marilyn Jarvis instructed to find Tears as she unravels a mystery that will haunt her forever. Just how can a man named Arden regenerate himself? How can bullets not kill him? Why does he seem invincible?
Where will Tears wind up? Will he remain in another time period? A cell phone that sparked the attention of his captors and wondering what this technology did as an ME in the present is baffled by the blood of this regenerated man and the hope of stopping this chaos yet to be determined? What would you do if you lived in a world where others wanted to control your every move? Where is it safe? Past/Present/Future or NOWHERE!
When all of the plans are revealed and the Silencers make their final move will Ana and Tears be able to survive? What about Marilyn Jarvis what role will she play in finding Tears and what happens when things spiral out of control? Lives are lost and allegiances mean nothing as everyone is out for what they want. Who can be trusted? Just which government organization is in charge? Can they stop what is happening in the past? What about Francois and his group dealing with the militia and what is their goal and agenda?
When the author reveals all sides and we learn just what this is really about you won’t believe that there are two parallel worlds that run side by side each with their own populations and each with their own revolutions, wars and more. The worlds are unseen and run along side each other. The histories are not the same and the goal is to stop the Silencers but first and foremost they have to find the way to stop the agitators, rebels and revolutionaries. Just who in this world developed a machine and technology is needed but needs to return to his world to accomplish the goals? What about Tears and the phone that was left in the parallel universe? Answers to these and other questions will have to wait until the next installment of this interesting saga. An engine created in the other world that needs to be replicated in order to stop what has been set into motion but first Marilyn risks it all to find Tears. Will they succeed or will more lives be sacrificed because the fabric of time has shifted and who knows what will happen next? A Transference Engine is at the key!
