Never In Ink: Marilyn Jax
A handshake or your word was good enough to close a deal in the past. There was no need for contracts, papers being notarized or any other legal document. Two business people with one handshake closed a deal. Antonio Dinetto watched his father close many deals and followed suit when he grew older. Never wavering from the old tradition, making millions in his pursuits, he became ruthless, hardnosed and quite wealthy. Although on the outside he seemed confident, self-assured and self-made within his own self-conscience he was insecure. When his father when he was younger decided to move his family to America he and his brother and sister were devastated. One would take his own life while the rest of his family would eventually perish in an accident leaving him alone and orphaned. Coldhearted, mean and dangerous he built his own empire and learned to distance himself from others. Author Marilyn Jax teaches a great many lessons within this novel as we get reminded of the importance of keeping your word, learning from your mistakes and understanding your own failings. Never In Ink: Never put it writing!
Enter Claire Caswell and Gaston “Guy” Lombard our two private investigators called on by the Miami Dade County police to shadow this man and find out what he’s really been up to and why. DiNetto has eluded the police and they are afraid that he’s going to rake in millions at the expense of others but who, what, where, why and how remains to be seen. Commissioned to learn more and find out what he’s been up to they wind out traveling all over Europe from Italy, to Switzerland and France and every step of the way they are met with disasters, accidents, hospital stays, life threatening experiences and even having to escape a hospital knowing that someone there is on DiNetto’s payroll and has tracked them down. Added in they deal with having to disguise themselves, hide in plain sight and hopefully foil a criminal that knows they are there but is waiting for the right time to strike. But, their new assistant Jin would prove invaluable as another officer of the police department requests the help of the firm to find out who is leaking information and is the mole they need to stop. Out of his league but definitely trying to prove his worth, he winds up in a bar, meets the mark but the end result lands him in the hospital as the guy he is trying to learn more about won’t take no for an answer.
Hacking into the guy’s email, the police department’s information Jin learns enough that could get him more than in trouble for overstepping his bounds.
Landing in Milan, getting into their car that would take shots at them and kill the driver? Who knows they are there? Even in the hotel when they required information to follow DiNetto’s itinerary, someone reported their moves every step of the way. Trust no one and beware!
Not wanting to ride in the Fiat the police rented for them Claire decides to go it alone on the train. But, needless to say someone was following her and the fear in her eyes carried over until the conductor came to her rescue. Having to go back the way she came but this time Guy traveled with her and the same man that scared her the first time came after her. Threats spoken and fear in her eyes until Guy kicked in the door of the ladies room and the man was arrested. 7
As they made their way through Europe, Jin made his way through the many websites, emails and more of Cane Dougan and officer that appeared to be dirty. Dangerous, leaking information to DiNetto, press leaks and more Jin suspected him of dealing with the man called the Anteater and that he was paying him for his information. Bank records, money wired into his account from Magnifico Notte Music Production, Inc, Jin realized the link to DiNetto and knew he had to contact them before its too late. Dougan’s cell records were there and he was able to recover his texts. Nothing is ever gone and DiNetto and Dougan started with Anteater who was really DiNetto.
The investigators never get this message in time and things heat up as DiNetto becomes obsessed with Claire even going as far as buying her expensive gifts and not signing any card. Someone else was on the time as we watch Guy Lombard pose as another man in disguise hoping to learn exactly what DiNetto was into and what he was hoping to accomplish. Boxes filled with something but they did not know what. Someone wanting big money for the contents and Guy pretending to be that buyer. But, and officer named Bubbiano is always with DiNetto and when Claire is in trouble will Guy get her in time as DiNetto takes her hostage in his car and she learns just where the presents came from and why!
Thinking he has he in his clutches he soon learns the harsh truth. But, when Bubbiano and Guy free her from the clutches of DiNetto a slip of the tongue forewarns them and will they catch them before they cross the Italian border or will they go free?
Author Marilyn Jax created a storyline that seems to have more within the events that have happened in this intricate plot and the ending allows readers to know that there is more to come. Once again author Marilyn Jax raises the bar and stands on the same top shelf as Sandra Brown, Lisa Gardner, Jon Land, Allan Topol and Heather Graham. As Claire and Guy once again prove that they can overcome any obstacles, withstand whatever their foes dish out as Never In Ink reminds us that an old fashioned handshake is what it took back in the day to make a deal and I should know: I watched my dad do the same.
Characters that are well developed, creative narrative and a fast paced storyline and plot once again Guy and Claire hopefully succeed with the help of a great new added addition: Jin.
What happens to DiNetto you have to learn for yourself because this man who lacks self-esteem, self-absorbed and definitely has a high opinion of his self-worth is going to leave you the reader with a message you won’t forget!
