Take a Trip to Italy

If Your Were Me and Lived In Italy

Author Carole Roman and Illustrated by Kelsea Wierenga

Some journeys are taken when you go on a plane, boat or car and others are created in our minds. Within the pages of this book you will take a trip along with this reviewer to a country that many of us have always dreamed about visiting but never have. Get your boarding pass, make sure you check your luggage and join me on our virtual tour of Italy.

When you get off the plane and enter the country remember that if you lived in Italy it would be called The Republic of Italy and it would be found in the southern part of Europe. Often called Stivale or the book because of its shape. Check it out on the globe with our two guides. Living in ancient times this country was the home of the Roman Empire. For many years it controlled most of the world. Imagine seeing the Roman soldiers and armies and outposts that were found in most of Europe. The illustration of the next page makes it come to life.

The Capital is Rome and was founded by Romulus the Emperor of Rome in 753 B.C. Rome is one of the oldest cities in the world. So many live there and the architecture and beauty is amazing as you can tell when you join the tour group on the next page and see The Catholic Church which is considered an independent state and its capital is the Vatican. You need to read about the history to learn more.

Our two guides would like to share with you some fun facts. If you are a boy like the guide on the next page your name might be Leonardo. If you are a girl like the guide on the next page your name might be Giana or Leticia. Your mommy would be called Mama and your daddy would be Papa. If you would like gelato you would reply Si Papa.

Money in Italy is called Euros and that is how your mother would pay for the delicious treats that are on the next page. Want to join them and learn what they have you need to read it for yourself as you continue the tour.

Our guides would like you the visitors to see the famous sites like the Coliseum, which is an ancient concrete stone theater the largest amphitheater in the world. Imagine seeing that! Just who lived there were three emperors or kings who guilt it during the years 72-80 B.C. If you read more in your guidebook you will learn about the Gladiators and public events. Every child loves to visit their grandparents and our two youngsters featured in this colorfully illustrated book are not different as we learn about he many savory dishes and my favorite is the spaghetti. What’s yours that Nonna made? Can you small the sauces, the cheeses and bacon? Children love games and watching life football is exciting and fun as they talk about it argue who they think are the best players. Women even young girls are honored in a special way On March 8the as you see the yellow mimosa flowers everywhere. Learn more about the tradition when you see what the young boy presents to his mother and learn about International Women’s Day and how all women get into national museums for free. Sounds like something I would love to do. I love museums. August 15th is exciting when summer starts and all the stores, and businesses are closed and everyone heads for the beach. Great tradition. Imagine children that love the start of school or La scula. Join them on their first day. Check out the circle of friendship and if you were me and lived in Italy this is how your life would be. The author includes a glossary of terms and pronunciations and she included my Around the World Circle for me to color and I will. This is a great book for students in elementary schools and middle schools to begin learning about Italy and motivate them to learn more. Great for teaching family values and traditions. I love this series and can’t wait to see where Carole is going to take me next. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Italy as much as I did.
