Grand Central Station: Marsha Casper Cook
Some events happen for a reason. Some unions of two people are totally unexpected. This is a story of love, romance, understanding, trust and most of all family loyalties as this review is going to be told from the point of view of the most important character in the book: Angus the all knowing dog who if you listen carefully will speak to you the reader and explain why this book is a definite must read but first let’s meet Angus as the story unfolds:
My name is Angus and I live in a house with so many people that the traffic jam to the bathroom and the kitchen often bears resemblance to that of Grand Central Station in New York City where millions of people enter the terminal and ride Metro North Daily just hoping to find a seat and not get crushed by other passengers. I live with the Feingold family who if you want to know the truth are quite unique in appearance and manner. First, where is our resident pediatrician, Victoria, her three children Noah, Allyson and Andrew who are quite special, Gracie her mother who I definitely love and Ava her spoiled, bratty sister who thinks everyone has to wait on her hand and foot. Now that you have meet the Feingold family let’s introduce you to a Dr. Jack Weston our other star in this story who provides some interesting scenes and will ignite a spark in Victoria that she needed rekindled. As you can guess this just might turn out to be a love interest for both.
Jack Weston is a well- known psychiatrist whose first writing venture and book signing did not fare that well. But, his friend Agnes Blackwell the manager of Maxwell Myers would not give up on him and next efforts were more than successful. Two years later after dealing with the chaos in her house, her family’s morning routines little did Victoria Feingold know that her life was about to get more interesting. Breakfast woes completed, comments about what they would rather eat, we hear commentator Simon Barret talking about Dr. Jack Weston the child psychiatrist who has now become more than just an authority on how to rear children but a household word. Not having met him yet I have to take the word of others that he does not like the limelight and the celebrity status he has achieved is not easy getting used to but here is where things get interesting. About to get out of his car Andrew barrels into the good doctor and the scene is hilarious and the reactions quite interesting. While Victoria tries to smooth the ways and apologizes for Andrew, Morgan the chauffeur intervenes in his own way. But Jack could care less about what Andrew did because his entire focus is on the gorgeous mother and neither one seems ready to retreat. Inviting her and Andrew to come as his guest to his book signing hoping this would grant him a way to get to know her but she declines. But, Jack is quite astute and will not give it a rest and what he does next is right out of a Molly Goldberg episode or the Goldberg’s.
Jack was careful and had Morgan learn more about Victoria and here is where things get interesting as Jack decides to do something bold. Would you present yourself at someone’s home that you really do not know just to give them signed copies of your new release? Quite clever to say the least as now I get to meet Jack and watch what I do! Checking him out I made him feel kind of uncomfortable but you can never be too careful with strangers. Of course Grace flipped out and invited him in to have something and would not let him leave. Handing Grace a copy of his latest book just endeared him even more to her but I guess I will just have to give him a chance.
Victoria is not quite ready for a relationship but Grace can’t resist inviting Jack in and Allyson who was nine did not pay any attention and just took off with a piece of my favorite mandel bread. The three kids each had their own take on things but each one had their own reactions and you have to smile.
Victoria has to attend a conference in Las Vegas and low and behold guess who is on the plane with her after dealing with another hectic and Grand Central type morning with everyone going their own way and direction finding herself on the same plane with Jack. Here is where things might heat up as Victoria hates flying and what he does well join them on the flight if you want to know more. Las Vegas is a great place and the conference would prove more than just challenging for Victoria as not only was Jack in the audience but since it was her birthday guess who showed up except me of course since planes and I do not fare well and I was not invited. Imagine seeing her mother, sister Ava and her ex-husband and three children front and center hoping that she might reconcile. Finding Michael, her ex-husband behind her hotel room door and asking to come back to her, Victoria really handles the situation quite well and the outcome you won’t get it from me. After all what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. The conference is starting and she is at the podium and realizes that her speech is boring and calls upon Jack to complete the discussion taking on questions that only he can answer the conference is a success.
Jack and Victoria seem to have a special connection and you won’t believe what they decide to do after really getting to know each other. Added in Michael and sister Ava realize that sometimes the wrong sister is married to the wrong man. The banter is filled with humor and the end result you just won’t believe as each sister has a secret to hide, confrontations arise and will they remain as sisters or will what happens drive them apart. Ava is impetuous and Victoria has picked up some of her ways as each makes a rash decision that might not work out or might surprise them both. Back home we learn more about Grace and Morgan seems to fancy her as I do after all she provides me with all of the great treats.
When everyone gets home things get dicey and realities set in a secrets are not revealed as Victoria begins to question her actions and Michael his too. Sometimes we do things on the spur of the moment and not realizing the end result. When everyone is home how will so many live in one place and what about Jack? Where is he going and what about her three children when they learn their secret? Secrets, lies, humor, deceptions, confrontations and my asides as I guide the characters, instruct them on their flaws, explain what they should do and how they can fix their problems as someone has to take hold of the situation. Do I talk? Well I just might if you listen real hard but the ending will surprise you as author Marsha Casper Cook puts in one more twist that you won’t expect. What happens when the kids find out? What happens when Michael needs to stay there because how did he fall off the roof? That is hilarious! A story about second chances and one that will make you laugh, cry, scream, shout and double over laughing as Victoria, Jack, Michael, Ava, Grace and Morgan prove that being impetuous and taking a chance just might: You have to find out the rest for yourself when you read this adorable, funny hot new romance getting to know the Feingold family and of course me: Angus your narrator and guide hoping that you won’t get entangled in a household with so many traffic and everyone coming and going that you too might find yourself living in your own Grand Central Station. This is Angus and I hope that you will read this outstanding Five Star Book and of course get to know me better.
