The Ebola Game : Glenn Shepard
What happens when one man decides to play God and creates a diabolical plot to rid the world of anyone who does not agree with his thoughts and ideologies? What happens when one man manages to create an epidemic of mass proportions that will rock the world and take down as many people as possible? What happens when America is on notice from a man claiming to be part of ISIS and having his own agenda to turn humans into Zombies, create his own means of doing that and hopefully spread the Ebola virus worldwide killing anyone in his path that dares to defy his mind and wishes. Dr. Scott James s the Chief of Staff of a hospital and hopes to remain in that position.
ISIS terrorists are behind this plot to create an Ebola epidemic in America as we hear the voice of Dr. Scott James and see the end result of a bomb that explodes in his hospital. Taking every precaution, running the risk of contamination himself, learning he is immune to the virus after being injected with it, Dr. Scott James finds himself at the mercy of a Mayor who is over zealous, police departments in Haiti that are anything but cooperative and searching for Sanfia, the one woman that might be able to provide the cure. A powerful Vodun priestess in Haiti, hiding and hard to find when he does and where will shock readers as she too becomes a pawn in the world of Omar Faruk the man who has orchestrated this plot.
Enter Elizabeth Keyes, his girlfriend a freelance operative, smart and quite informed about this virus and hopefully can help him find the cure but Scott is removed from his position as he has the hospital under quarantine, everyone working to capacity and then the shoe falls like it never did before and he is accused of causing this problem and taken into custody with his friend and loyal employee Jakjak.
In the hospital administrators office we hear the voice of Dr. Andy Reed, his only ally and friend that wants to update hospital leaders and his team and gives instructions on how to proceed. Having learned that the Ebola virus was definitely diagnosed, things fall into place, the CDC is called in, the room is filled with people in Hazmat suits and helmets and the tension is high.
Someone wants James out of the way and what he endures and is put through by Omar and his minions makes you wonder just where the loyalties lie as those that are supposed to protect us seem helpless and one man appears to think he can override it all. Taking the priestess into his custody, claiming he can make his own Zombies and watching as the author leads us to the lobby of a hotel see these people walking in a trance not knowing where they are going, you wonder if this could really happen or if this is what some sick person wants to create for us in the future.
As the plot unfolds even more we hear the voice of General Perkins and the Under Secretary of State deciding on the fate of Dr. Scott who holds the key to stopping this epidemic or maybe is the cause as he thinks he is. Kidnapped, beaten and yet not giving up Scott is racing more than on clock to stop a pandemic of huge proportions. You wonder sometimes whose side the General is on and whether he is concerned with saving lives or just getting rid of the good doctor. As the staff in the hospital takes time to relax the Zombie they rescued proves not to be immune as first thought and others that are sick do not have that virus.
Ebola is a rare and deadly diseased caused by an infection with one of the Ebola virus species. If contracted it can cause disease in humans and primates such as monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees. There are five identified Ebola Virus species and four are know to cause the disease in humans. The author focuses on the Zaire ebolavirus and the man behind the pandemic seems to have a way of spreading it that is quite unique as no one thought that it could be spread by a spray or airborne. He has already created deaths in Africa and other countries and wants to destroy as many people and populations as possible and Reed and James pretend to admire his work, listen to his rants and begin to understand as the author shares his research and the different strains, how it could be spread and how he can control not only the outcome but the Zombies too.
Humans get it through direct contact like broken skin or mucous membranes in the eyes, nose or mouth. They can get it in blood or body fluids or from a person who is sick with or has even died from it. Infected fruit bats, primates and even from the semen of a man. All of this research is extensive and shared with readers as he also shares the symptoms of fever, muscle pain, severe headache, weakness, fatigue and much more. He also explains that Farouk has a way of creating a serum to cause memory loss and a way to control these Zombies to do his bidding, killing and more. But, when Captain Roberts goes rogue and flies the doctor and Reed to where Omar is, the end result proves more than fatal for some and the ending more than surprising with a twist of fate even Dr. James did not expect.
Trying to convince General Perkins that something is about to happen and that the President might be in danger goes on deaf ears. With the help of Elizabeth Keyes and an FBI agent he hopes to stop what appears to be a dangerous plot to spread the disease and kill the President. But, not everything or everyone is what they seem and the betrayals and deceits do not end with the closing of this novel as once again Dr. Scott James becomes a pawn in someone’s Ebola Game: of Chess !

Glenn Shepard’s first novel, Surge, was written while he was still a surgical resident at Vanderbilt. In the following years he wrote The Hart Virus, a one-thousand-page epic about the AIDS crisis, as well as three other novels. In 2012, he created “Dr. Scott James,” his Fugitive-like action-hero, and began publishing a series. The first volume of the Dr. Scott James series was The Missile Game, followed shortly afterward by The Zombie Game. The third of the series, The Ebola Game, is due out in December, 2015. Though the books contain many of the same characters, they don’t have to be read in order. Each can be read as a stand-alone.
