Deadly Obsession: Spotlight

Deadly Obsession: Elle James

A young nine-year-old child is thrilled that she has been given something to cherish from her teacher. A special music box perfectly wrapped and protected for staying after class and helping her teacher with many important tasks. But, nine year old Julia is sidetracked as she is walking home alone after school and what happens next will haunt her forever as she disappears, someone takes her but she cannot recall why. The house where she lived filled her with nightmares and her mother Sarah packed up their belongings and they moved away. A single house with so many horrific memories standing alone and silent for 17 years until Jillian Taylor decided to buy the house for herself and awaken its beauty. Can a house be so terrifying that what happens there will destroy your mind and soul? Can a house really be that haunted that real estate agent Jillian Taylor might wonder why strange and dangerous things are happening there every time she steps over the threshold. Entering the house and hoping to get it ready to live in Jillian finds herself in the basement, unconscious and has no idea how it happened. Chance McCall is there to be the best man at his friend’s wedding and was asked to go to this house to help Jillian with certain preparations and things needed to be done in the house. But, events spiral out of control, simple rides in cars, chance meetings and although the sparks between them are quite hot what someone has planned for Jillian is even hotter. Someone wants her gone. Someone does not want her in that house and accidents are happening. She is blindsided on the road and winds up injured several times in the hospital. Chance comes to help her out and his rental car is vandalized. But, Chance has secrets that he would like to keep hidden as the author shares his nightmares from the battles and war in Afghanistan that he fought, the fear that he might injure Jillian as she battles her own fears about a basement and the dark. When Jillian is hurt and two kittens are found within the basement out of nowhere and a worker is seriously injured and others from the construction company quit, it’s her spirit and strong will that keep her going but will it keep her alive. As she is planning her friend Molly’s wedding to Nova and their families are about to descend on the B&B that they own.

Members of the community have mixed viewpoints as some feel she should give up the house while others feel she should stand her ground. But, someone is out to destroy her but why? As Chance is Stealth Ops Specialist who calls on his boss to not only dig into the history of the house but finds it necessary to dig into Jillian’s past. Learning more about Sarah and Julia who lived there and finding out that Jillian was adopted but there is no record of her Social Security number and her past life other than her adoptive parents and that she came from Portland, could she be linked to the little nine year old girl who was kidnapped?

With a wedding to plan for her best friend Molly, Jillian refuses to let the accidents and her injuries stop her. Wanting to face her fears she learns that Chance needs to face his two as they both have to deal with the nightmares that plague their waking hours and give them sleepless nights. But, Chance won’t let her out of his sight or unprotected. With a police force stretched to the limit he is Jillian’s only protection but when she and Molly complete their wedding tasks and she drops her off at her house what happens next will reawaken more than just her past she just might relive it one more time.
Memories start to flood back and an incident will bring it all to light as Jillian learns what happened to that young girl in the basement, how it links to her and who actually protected the child from harm. Fear wells up inside of her as she comes front and center with the person trying to scare her off make sure that she does not take action against her protector. But, when she falls over a cliff when the killer strikes will Chance get there in time to save her? Why is she concerned about the killer and what will happen to the person who kidnapped her in the past? An ending that is quite explosive, electrifying and will spark memories within Jillian that might cause her to rethink her future and whether this house is the right one for her. With so many accidents and so many attempted murders and deaths does is she going to remain in Cape Churn? What about Chance is he going back to Virginia or will they have a chance at a life together?
A surprise ending you won’t expect and two characters that make for the start of a great series as we wonder what the future has in store for this headstrong, persistent and no nonsense real estate agent who just wants to find home happiness and is hoping to escape someone who has a Deadly Obsession before it’s too late.
