Ark: Above: John Heldon
When the world is in such turmoil and Evil has decided to yield its ugly head things change, lives are at stake and three men are about to once again embark on a journey that will take them deep inside a Portal hidden within the lower level pool of a place where sports events are played: The Ark. But, these men do not have special powers yet they can see things that no one else can including the original basketball players that haunt this special place and are there to make sure that they survive what they will no doubt relay as their most heinous, dangerous and definitely at sickening mission ever to save the world from EVIL and DOOM! The ghosts of the narrator, John’s Alma Mater is his basketball team that hopes to finally escape where they have been trapped for eternity. Graduating from Sunnyside College but active in the school’s basketball team booster club, John once again along with his friend and reporter Cal, find themselves drawn to this place called the Ark. Inspired one night he decides to go there but has not idea why. Seeing the ghosts of the basketball team, these legends from the team from 1971 starts them on a journey or mission to hopefully free these men from playing Megamount University that beat them in the finals in the NCAA years ago.
John’s interest in the players soon finds him obsessed with helping them escape their state to find lasting rest. It is these same men that come to their aid at the start of the book as John and Cal are once again drawn to something happening at the Ark and their trip down the Portal is one that makes them sick, unsteady and thinking they might not make it out.
Unless Cal, John and the man who is the head of Security at the Ark, Ben can find a way to stop when has already begun the world as we know it might come to an end. A set of keys, a celebration to honor women on August 13, and a woman named Fatima who is guiding them and their path to stop what EVIL has said has already begun as we hear is critical voice explaining the horrors that humans have inflicted on the earth and why he feels that it is time to teach them a lesson some might not live to learn. But, this time things pan out differently and they include Genna, Phyllis and Mary their wives who seem well conditioned, smart and able to handle whatever comes their way as things begin to spiral out of control. An explosion at the Ark and the National Guard and Police close it off to everyone but personnel and players. How are they going to get back in to complete their mission? When they do get confronted it is Phyllis who comes up with an ingenious reason for why they are there but that won’t work a second time.
John is determined to stop what has been put in place and finding the unusual Portal and the keys that hold the link to reentering just might be their only hope but can they reopen it and where are these keys? This is a story about reflection, revelations, equality, justice, world tolerance and sharing thoughts and ideas and teaching the world’s population the meaning of trust, hope and allowing everyone the same chances in life. When Fatima, the lady, explains that Evil lurks and you hear the voice of Evil explaining why tragedy will strike and why world leaders, the NRA leader and his family, government leaders and other prominent figures perished in order to cleanse the earth you might say of those that are not willing to be open to the ideas of others, this is frightening. John and Cal discuss this issue, find themselves at the park where they along with Genna and Phyllis enter the portal, he has the keys but some things are not always constant as the keys have their own home where they think they belong and then Ben explains what is happening or not happening at the Ark.
Things spiral in many different directions as John has some sorted nightmares, dreams that turn violent and his connection to Cal and his thoughts seemed to have faded. When John hears a noise coming from the garage what he and Genna experience and seeing the young woman and her child, hearing their words and learning that the Nemacole have accepted him changes it all. Then the security is lifted at the Ark and will the end come soon or will he be able to save what is still left of the world.
John finds himself drawn to the Ark and what happens at the end is quite startling as we the faithful readers find out the fate of the world, what is in store for everyone and why John has been singled out and for what. Hearing the words in chapter 17 and learning why they are striking the world and making everyone take notice of “women, its most precious resource, did not change the minor image of women to an equal one that men have and women deserve.” Will it remain as the Eden speaks to us a Man’s World or will things change? The Evil among people increased and the horrors will only get worse and the ending will stun you. The next trip to the Ark will change the course of their lives, history and the fate of so many as a young boy named Noah will be their guide and lead them as Eden explains to John that he is “far less than perfect when I chose you, and we both know you are far from it now.” Feeling off, his body trembling and the trip to the Boat Basin Park, the Portal and his reflection and remembrances of moments in his life, bullies, verbal taunts and family relationships brings John full circle and understanding what his fate is, that of the others and that the story and his mission has just begun as the author takes us in Book VII to Matrilinium and a world dominated by well: If I tell you then it would spoil the mystery and the adventure that you will take next with John. A powerful story with so many underlying themes, issues and understandings of the nature of people, their misconceptions, their fears, greed, refusal to accept others, not sharing the beauty and resource on Earth and what happens and where exactly Matrilinium is you won’t know unless you read it for yourself. Author John Heldon gives readers much food for thought as we all go about our days taking what we have at times for granted, not realizing the worth of others and finding out if and when you take the journey what just might happened if WOMEN ARE IN CHARGE! What happens to the Ark and what does he see on his next journey? More to come !
