THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS

The Book of Revelations: A.C. Burch

Things are not always what they seem and the stories told within this amazing collection will provide you with insights to different lifestyles, different worlds and how some create situations that they want you to see as they do even if they are truly illusions. Failed romances, love affairs, backstabbing, money hungry, murders and more the characters in this book present it all. Madeline Sorel is the illustrator and helps bring the stories to life. Curtain Call is the first story. The twists and turns in this story will astound the reader. An actor that surprises everyone as the ending will make you wonder why someone with a promising career would decide on such a drastic ending. I really loved story two titled the Gotterdammerung where a young man is enamored with his mentor and maestro. The violin is my instrument and hearing this young man play with the maestro and becoming part of a major orchestra brought back memories. Someone who loves classical music loves Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and the masters will love hearing the young man practice, play along with the master as they take the stage for many years to come. Falling for Luciana the daughter, learning how to understand his every movement it saddens the reader to learn that greatness does not last forever. During one performance it becomes apparent that the maestro is struggling and the young violinist takes on the job of conductor and uses his violin bow as the baton as he conducts the piece perfectly until the end. But, although he was ill he does not give up and before all is said and done the Maestro just might take one more bow. The Honoree is quite interesting as Dean Wanda is about to step down and is greeted by a young man from the police department thinking he is there to wish her well and tell her that she should remain in her position. But, there is much more to Wanda as the author introduces her nemesis who is battling it out with Dean Wanda for the house, property and burial grounds that she feels she is entitled to as written in the will of her late employer. As the maid and her caregiver she supposedly took care of the older woman but when she died the circumstances came in question. The entire story deals with court battles, lawyers fighting it out, each one scheming and trying to out fox the other with an ending that will bring a smile to one character’s face and a total shock to you the reader and the other. A great suspenseful ending as only A.C. Burch can deliver.

I would be remiss if I did not feature story one “Private Quarters that focuses on Matt Atwood a college student. Living in a strange environment he meets Sandy not exactly a raving beauty and somewhat friendly trying to catch his attention, get him into her lair and hand over some gossip and drinks. Matt’s dialogue allows readers to know that women are not on his top ten list allowing readers to get to know not only Sandy but his staunch apparently no fun girlfriend Claire. Each story has its own dramatic flavor and all of the characters hidden truths and lies. There is the story of an older woman who resides with her cruel and abusive brother and throws a dinner party that will be quite memorable and a cast of characters that are totally unforgettable. Last Chance is a quite interesting story about a murder investigation and the detective in charge who is entranced and falls for the murder suspect in the Bahamas. What happens when a detective and murder suspect form more than just a working to find the killer relationship and realize that they have lots in common? Of course the story that focuses on what happens you someone decides to come out of the closet is The Curtain Call. Each of the stories has its own theme yet each character has his/her own secrets that they do not want divulged or shared. Within the book we see why the author created the Book of Revelations as each on ends with a startling reveal that the reader will not expect. Each story preys on the weaknesses of someone and the strengths of another in order to survive. The characters are true to life and could be anyone you might meet on the street or in passing. But, in the story Last Chance we meet a detective that seems to have met is match in Amanda whose lover seems to be missing and she has been left millions or at least enough money never to have to work ever again. But, rather than interrogating her she seems to reverse the roles every time she and detective Beston meet. Added in he cares for a young girl that considers him her uncle and Amanda decides to learn more about her offering to pay for her college too. Added in we learn that our detective’s ex-male partner has managed to out him in front of his coworkers making it more difficult for him and at times the brunt of some nasty remarks. With Amanda thinking she is in charge and her husband missing this proves to be one interesting story I am sure with more twists and turns than I care to reveal. The story is quite revealing and the tables are turned as Vaughn Kreisler the man she is accused of murdering shows up. Things begin to change for our detective a new relationship is formed but not before someone is out to make sure he is silenced. Just why is Amanda taking an interest in him? What about Vaughn’s wife? What’s her stake in all of this? There is a subtle twist you won’t see coming as the revelation revealed will change it all for our detective and making him rethink his life, his choices and where he want to go. A relationship that was based on deceit and a lie yet would he forget the reasons why they were necessary as a waiter and staunch ally of someone close to him says it in a way that lets you know he’ being what some might politely say a DONKEY! if you catch my drift. Even in Death is the last story where we meet Berta and learn about someone’s death as we meet Tim who he relates the story about Ken’s death. Interviewing one of the neighbors you would think Ken was a saint but when you dig dipper as they do you won’t believe the revelations and deceits you learn about this man who everyone either loved or hated. Asking Dr. Death to orchestrate his death claiming he was very sick, the truth comes out and he was not. Added in we meet his sister Virginia who Berta decides to cross examine at the wake where only she and Tim show up and you won’t believe what she is wearing. This final story is filled with twists, turns and you wonder why so many were duped by Ken as he milked tons of money for a cause that was phony. Pretending to be sick and creating a website getting money to sustain his needs you won’t believe the lengths he went to in order to take down his sister and incriminate her in his death. But, Berta has other thoughts and it would not be A.C. Burch if he didn’t at least attempt to throw in a love interest for Tim. Andre is hot and smoking and that’s all I will say and leave the rest up to Tim when he’s ready to elaborate and tell more. Stories that are heartwarming, hilarious, true to life and deal with people who hide from their own failings, flaws and want to rise to the top but in different ways as author A.C. Burch once again hits high marks with this insightful, unique and very entertaining stories.
