A Texas Cowboy Christmas
Sometimes life takes you on journeys you would never expect and the dynamics of your life changes with just one situation. Molly Griffin has her heart set on her son Braden attending an exclusive private pre-school in Dallas and will do everything in her power to give him the life she never had by providing this type of setting for her son’s education. But, Braden loves the school he attends and does not want to leave the Circle H Ranch and his new friendship with a man named Chance Lockhart. All Braden wants is for someone to bring him two live bulls for Christmas much to his mother’s chagrin.
Chance and Molly enter into an unusual relationship uniting both his workers and hers in interior design to complete a project for his mother, Lucille Lockhart. Lucille owns and operates the Circle H Ranch, and being in construction he and Molly need to work together to complete the job. He is also a builder and owner of the Bunkingbull Training Facility. Each one carrying their own package from their pasts and Molly relating how Braden was born and missing out on a father. Braden only wanting two live bulls fro Christmas more than a tall order. Together at times they mesh and at other times she becomes too pragmatic, naïve in many respects and often stoic. What would a romance novel be without some competition for the handsome main character as his ex-girlfriend Babs shows up with her over the top and austere mother Delia to try and mend some fences and an offer to buy his business fronting for a man they called Mr. X, a billionaire. In reality Delia had her mind set on something else and hoped her threats and power of manipulation would work in her favor. But, Chance is smart and cannot be fooled and after a while Molly begins to see through it too. The project has a time frame of five weeks and the pressure is on to get it done but every step of the way there are roadblocks. The purpose is for a planned fund-rasier for the Lockhart Foundation for the sole purpose of raising money for the West Texas Warrior Assistance Gala. So, with the Gala coming up and Braden wanting a bull of his own how will this work out. Braden is smart yet like every child he is persistent in wanting what he wants so when his attention is diverted to Leo and Lizzie World Adventure Train set, Chance hopes he will like this better. But, the cost is great and Molly will not accept it as a gift and insists on buying some of it from him. Molly wants her son to have everything that other kids have all the material things but is that what is really important. With the project hoping to be completed and her goal to move to Dallas, hoping that her son will be accepted in the exclusive pre-school with her business she hopes to be booming. Chance is wealthy and might just realize that is not the formula for happiness. As they continue working together they realize that there is a strong chemistry between them and although each one says it won’t be permanent he is determined not to let her or Braden go. Values, morals, financial strain and a little boy that just wants what he wants for Christmas and a mother named Delia that hopes to buy his company, get her daughter’s mind on the track she wants and will do anything to get what she wants including duping Molly into working for her.
As the story develops even more we get to know both Chance and Molly as individuals and you see their differences developing. So, why does he go to see Braden in a special holiday play? Why does he want to attach himself after all this time? While his family comes to visit and every step of the way Delia tries to interfere what will the final outcome be for both of them? With Braden interviewed at the exclusive school and Chance being able to get him in, will she accept the offer that not only he but Delia offers or will she remain with Chance and have a better life for both her and her son?
When the rejection comes in from the school and her reaction is not one that you would expect Delia offers, since she has her hand on the pulse of everything that she can fix it if Molly does on thing for her? But will she?
What happens when Molly learns the truth about why her son got the interview? The issue of class system and monetary status comes into play as she learns that they wanted to interview him to allow the school to have students from diverse backgrounds, meaning from families that were not as affluent as the others. Money in the bank went so far and Chance disagreed and told her that Braden had confidence because Confidence is Confidence and he definitely showed it but during part of the interview he froze, did not respond or answer could it be he did not really want to go there?
Can Chance protect Molly from the ruthless rich people who will do anything to get what they want? The interview with the Worthington School is evidence enough of how rich children are pampered and treated vs. Braden. An argument and harsh statement could ruin it all but will this Christmas bring Braden a bull or will he get lucky and settle for a new Dad? Author Cathy Gillen Thacker brings to light the importance of honesty, understanding, acceptance, tolerance and just plain family loyalties and love. Will Molly finally accept and allow Chance to reach out to her? Will she take her son and move to Dallas even though he wants to stay with his friends and the same school? Will Braden get the bull and will he too have a real chance to become A Texas Cowboy like Chance?
