Interpretation: Dylan Callens
Within this novel the reader will experience events that are out of most of our realm of thinking or experience. This is an example of dystopian fiction and the main themes deal with the advance of technology, the tests conducted to decide whether certain behaviors need to be eliminated, enhanced or changed and the effect of this type of advanced technology on humanity. Carl and his son Liam are a pair since the death of his wife and they love spending time together. Everything they do is by the book and uniform and there are those called untruthers who plague the pubic and robot constables that help enforce the laws. Products such as Brave New Burger are introduced and entice the reader to wish they could try one and odd expressions like eyes squinted just the right way and more. The Untruthers we realize at the start know some truths that those in charge want kept secret. But, you wonder at first just who or what is running the world and the people. The author presents many false incidents through the use of illusions and Carl facing the public without knowing that something within him has changed and not only are you going to wonder but so is Carl as he’s physical health seems to falter from healthy or disturbing. Carl is having chest pains, seeing things that don’t exist, trouble manipulating his arms and legs and at times you wonder if he is sane. Hoping to find his way out of what looks like a prison cell to save his son, Liam, what he does will test his every being.
Carl wakes up after blacking out and finds himself in a mental institution called Bedlam. Guards with Tasers and told when and where he can act, speak, eat and say his world becomes one of hidden truths and lies as they implanted something in his mind and now even his dreams become fantasy or grand illusions. Throughout the book you wonder what is reality and what the way those that are controlling each person’s mind wants them and others to view.
Before finding himself there Liam asks his father for something to drink and watching the waves collided in the mall but what changed it all? At the fight the Police hoping that someone would prove him not guilty but his fate was not in his control as you will read at the end of the fight had captured Noah Robiner. But, Carl realizes that something was wrong but what? Even when Liam asked he could not figure out why he was blacking out and had trouble moving around. Dreams are at the center of this novel as you hear the AI’s that are controlling his movements, thoughts and more hoping to change positive responses to negatives and those that are achievers to non-achievers but these are only two things they wanted to control there is much more. Dreams, reflections and controlling the ideas, thoughts and reactions of people. When he realizes he is in the institution he befriends a patient named Chris who seems coherent but both play a game of chess but Carl is warned that in reality his life would now become one huge chess game and who would say Checkmate first? Worrying about Liam he manages to break through a glass barrier, run north as Chris yells out but the end result is shocking as he enters his apartment, sees in his home the same brown liquids, curd and brown water coming out of his shower and sink, Even the clothes have a stench worse than death. Coming home he sees Liam who views him as the public stated as Carl the Executioner who burned down buildings, killed hundreds of people and is being hunted. Calling someone to help him and call the police Carl away once more this time for his life. Carl hopes to convince his neighbors that he is not an untruther and would never kill Liam but everyone fears him and Carl is now on his own. Can you mass-produce perfectly cloned people to act like robots? Carl’s dreams are frightening as he relives horrific movements that someone has planted in his mind waking up in a cold sweat. Imagine seeing your own son hurt or even dead!
Meeting Eva Thompson after escaping his son and the police he hopes. Reality is something the author makes us think about as we meet six entities that have taken over the world by controlling what people will eat, how their mind’s work, experiments that need to be done and both Eva and Carl run for their lives but the end result is not quite what they will expect. What would you think if you learned that you were not born the way you thought but hatched from a pod? What would you do if your present life and identity was given to someone else? Would you want to live in a perfect world or the one you came from? Entering a warehouse they meet Agriculture who explains the food they found and why soybeans would give them stomach issues. Before he and Eva could learn more they are told to run before the Constables arrest them and the next thing the know Chris seems to have escaped but when you learn how and why you will learn the true meaning of deception, lies and manipulation. Chris seems to be on his side but just who is he? Why did Liam scream when Carl was in the same room as him? Why do they call him Carl the Executioner? Is that really him? Illusions are many. Mind control and human manipulation is at the center of this novel as the author allows these six entities to take over the world, control you mind, actions, thoughts, food consumption and ability to create wars or stop them using Homeland and Interior and Foreign while all testing goes through Psychology. Frightening to say the least but as you hear their words, listen to their rationale it is up to read the reader to decide what is real, what is being used to control your thought and what exactly of the events is your INTERPRETATION?
Government announced that it was the first day of their control and they would start over again with the year being 000.0 and they would all consider themselves as the entities and they would no have control over themselves and the populace. Added in the system in place still requires humans for some vital functions but any humans that know or are aware that they are in charge must be you can guess: ELIMINATED.
Entity that is called Foreign is being re-initiated and Foreign is central to the overall plan of spawning new entities across the globe and that is all I am allowed to divulge at this time. Interior’s job is to ensure that no word of their news is leaked and that Interior monitors and censors the 023.0 at which time it is Interior’s job to provide coverage of an attack on US soil. Homeland is next and this entity is in total control over all robotic constables and its first job is to execute any government official that knows anything about their coup. Talk about silencing the enemy or controlling the world. Psychology will create a smaller version of the mind control chip that was used in the Harvard experiments. Imagine having children, babies as part of their inoculation process have chips injected into them including patients needing medical care. But, this is the beginning of you might say the end for many who have no idea with is real and what is a mass illusion created by these entities. Meet Psychology and here this voice that states that under the illusion in which people lived, the world looked perfect. Life was easier but it was not real. So, Carl would now face the ultimate test and find out the harsh reality about his fate. Everything is an experiment and the end result will shock readers and Carl as he and Eva run for their lives, learn the truth behind someone they called a friend and the end result will not be what you expect. Chapter 30 will enlighten you and remind you what happens when a Micom is implanted in you and your thoughts and actions controlled and monitored by others and you no longer are who you were before but wait. Remember the scene with Liam and Carl at the fights!
What happens when it’s replayed again but not the way you think? Experiments that require the Micom to be shut off for a time period. Experiment to determine the roles that hope plays in the human mind. Want to the answer to that and more? Only one way enter the world created by author Dylan Callens and become part of the experiments, join Carl at Bedlam and relive his thoughts and dreams and you decide what is real, what is an illusion and find out the true meaning of Interpretation! Which world would you like to live in the one or ours created by these entities? Find out where Carl winds up! This is a really interesting and powerful novel that will make you wonder: What would happen if AI’s took over our thoughts and minds?
