A-List: D.P.Lyle: A Starred review by Just reviews

A-List: D.P. Lyle

Actors have roles to play on and off the screen. But, sometimes that they visualize as a reality is not always what it seems. Kirk Ford is an A-List actor who plays many roles on and off the screen. Women flock to him and he often appears interested even when he’s not. But, any good actor can play the lover role and any naïve young girl can fall for it if they’re not careful. Warning signs are there and red flags too but sometimes as they say love is blind.

Kirk Ford is in deep trouble. He and his present girlfriend Kristi Guidry had a night of fun that ended in a tragic way. Ford was into marijuana and heavy alcohol and introduced Kristi to weed too but not the heavier drugs. So, why did she wake up the next morning in their bed dead? When he tried to awaken her even he was foggy and could not remember anything that happened except smoking some weed that she brought, he did not roll and the end result was her death.

Charles Balfour, is a movie producer who makes phone call to his niece Nicole Jamison and relays the message to her boyfriend Jake Longly and the next thing you know they are on the way to New Orleans to investigate the murder of Kristi Guidry along with the rest of the team. Ray Longly is the head of his own Private Investigation firm along with Pancake and Nicole and Jake they made a highly volatile and powerful team. Enter Marty Ebersole the director of the movie plus the lawyer for Kirk Ford whose skills were quite dynamic in making sure that his client would be free on bail. But, there are any factors and other people that would like to take out Kirk, namely Kristi’s anything but smart brothers, Kevin and Robert plus their connected and Mafia Uncle Tony Guidry.

Meeting with Kirk would take time because when they arrived he was not yet charged or arraigned in court. Going to the set and meeting with the crew and the other actors the author introduces us to Tara and Tagan the twins who were very close to Kirk and would do anything for him. Learning more about this swamp movie, seeing the cuts, bruises and black and blues from completing each scene you begin to wonder why anyone would put himself or herself through this. Entering the courtroom we meet Kornblatt the attorney for Kirk and the Assistant DA Melissa Mooring who was more than fired up to get the arraignment started and hopefully Kirk would not get bail. But, the arguments were spoke, eyes were on Tony Guidry as the reader realizes that he controlled what was about to happen and only because he gave the Assistant DA the high sign or go ahead did Kirk get a huge 3 million dollars bail.

Things heat up after Kirk is finally released on bail but Tony and his nephews are bent on taking Kirk out. Robert and Kevin find themselves trying to be amateur detectives but every step of the way they screw up and Tony at times has to reel them back in. Only because they are his nephews does he even put up with them. But, Nicole is smart, sassy and manages to pretend to want them to help find out who killed their sister.
Ragman aka/Jimmy Walker just might be the key to where the ketamine or bump came from. But, dealing with him Ray and Pancake realize that unless they get tough and physical they won’t learn a thing. Trying to make like he has a force of men behind him, Ragman never sees what Ray and Pancake have in store for him. Add in JuJu the other drug dealer who is quite powerful and you understand that in this city of New Orleans drugs are sold on every street, dealers want their own turf and that the big honcho is Tony Guidry.

Anyone connected even remotely to Kristi is suspect including Owen her ex-boyfriend that not only Ray and Pancake interviewed but add some comedy when the ridiculous brothers Kevin and Robert try their hand at intimidation. When Detective Tony Doucet is introduced you realize that this police detective is not only efficient but wants to share intelligence with both Ray and his team. Allowing them to sit in on interviews and giving them a heads up makes you realize that different law enforcement groups can work together. But, DNA might be the key but first take trip into the fun filled evenings that Nicole and Jake have also hear his take on the investigation first hand.

Gloria who worked in the bar that Kristi did before she was killed speaks highly of her, says she would never use hard drugs but when Kirk reveals that she brought the laced weed, who gave it to her has yet to be discovered. Telling him it was a good friend but not identifying the person leaves it up to the police to unravel the mystery but can they?

Tony had eyes like Marlon Dugan in the police force that passed on information about the case and much more knowing that a huge monetary gain would be coming his way. Belly Up is Tony’s bar and his two numskull nephews were supposed to run it but these two managed to do anything but and you wonder why he even bothered to give them a job. Johnny Hebert and Reuben Prejean were Tony’s eyes and ears and realized that his nephews needed a nursemaid to monitor their movements. Learning that they often spoke to the police or even Ray and his team infuriated him but eventually maybe they could all work together.

As the final scenes are crafted and we realize that Tony just might have Kirk bumped off a simple piece of evidence and information might change it all and move everyone in a different direction. Sleeping with the Assistant DA allows Tony first hand information on the case and where it stands and even though the limelight might be turning away from Kirk, Mooring is not and will present her case as she sees it unfolding.

Nicole and Jake make a great team and her wiles, guiles and feminine charm does not go unnoticed by anyone and she manages to get information just about from anyone at any time. Join the tour of the bars in New Orleans, meet the people on the street, learn about the great cuisine they all enjoy and realize that the killer is hiding in plain sight but has yet to be noticed. So, how did someone enter his room if the key card was in his draw with this other personal things? How did someone come in and strangle Kristi and get out unseen? The issues brought to light are the use of drugs, liquor, drug wars, turf wars, betrayals, disloyalties, jealousies, revenge and scorn but who will the author brilliant tag with the murder. Meet the cast of the movie and the crew and you decide who has the most to gain if Kirk is eliminated? What happens when Tony comes face to face with the truth will he let the police it their job? The ending you won’t ever forget. The killer or killers you won’t figure out as author D.P. Lyle takes us deep inside mob mentality, corruption at the highest level, the way of the world in New Orleans and the insider’s track on this murder. Creating characters that are true to life, realistic and a story filled with drama, humor, hilarity and characters that you want him to bring back again. Who killed Kristi? That I will never reveal as you the reader have to read the lines spoken by the actors, read between the lines of the characters and decide who killed Kristi someone else or Kirk Ford our A-List Actor!
