Breaking the rules and creating his own plan 12 year old Nicholas Toth might have saved his own life.
Bent on watching the upcoming baseball game he pretended to be asleep, waited to make sure his grandparents were asleep and snug down to a safe place to watch the game on his IPod. Voices a foreign language Russian and then this young boy knew that danger was in his house and he had seconds to respond and put in place the escape plan drilled into his head by Peter Toth his grandfather. Components found window opened letter with distinct instructions read and he ran for his life after jumping out of the window and managed to get to the airport it a ticket to meet Emma Miller his contact and new caregiver.
Things never turn out exactly how they are supposed to turn out and arriving at her home he’s told he cannot get close only to find out she was killed. Add f in his grandparents were shot and killed and now he’s alone.
Events change strategies are replaced and this intelligent 12 year old hooked up with Elizabeth Crowder a foreign reporter for the herald. Craig page out protagonist just left to meet with the head of Mossad to learn more about the death of his close friend Amos .
Russian President Kusnov has a hidden agenda of his own and his deviousness just might bring back the cold war and the resurgence of Russia. To achieve his primary goal he decided to utilize the democracy created in Russia at least for a short time, use his KGB training and hopefully become the next Mayor of Russia, which would be the first in a long line of positions until he became their President. Hungary was the focus and the key and the secret agreement he had presently reached with Hungarian Prime Minister Szabo, was called the Friendship Pact, which he planned to announce at a public ceremony in Budapest.
Szabo and Kuznov would be unholy friends and Szabo had been left leaning socialist when he was elected prime minister of Hungary. They were both amoral leaders and while one might have started out with political convictions wanting to improve the lives of the people of Hungary, the longer Szabo remained in office the more he wanted to tighten his hold on power while expanding his own personal agendas. Kuznov was devious and when reaching out to Szabo he invited him to the Defender of the Fatherland Day celebration where Szabo was taken in by the Russian show of military force, impressed you might say. The following morning they agreed on this Friendship Pact but behind it all Kuznov had his own personal agenda. The Pact would allow Russia to expand the nuclear power plant it had built in Hungary during the Communist period and construct a second plant. The two tighter would supply virtually all the electricity Hungary needed, freeing them from dependence on oil and gas imports. To Kuznov it was a win win situation. But, underneath his so called extended arm of friendship he was thinking that Russia could take over the Czech Republic and Poland. Then he would send his troops wets from Russia and conquer the Ukraine and Romania later taking the troops and advancing them to Hungary. He might meet resistance from France, Germany or England but he was not worried. He considered them weak.
Peter Toth was the thorn in his side and aided by Emma Miller, his former CFO, was the threat to ruin his plans. Dimitri is Kuzov’s trusted assistant and was the son of one of the generals he had worked with in Chechnya as he relates to Kuzov about the fire that killed Peter and his wife Reka and Nicholas. But, that might be the good news but the bad was that the Hungarian Prime Minister wanted out and the agreement was OFF! This pact was the cement of his entire European initiative and Kuzov thought he had carte blanche around the world and could do anything and take over anywhere he wanted. Self-absorbed, thinking he’s immune to any repercussions, this man will stop at nothing to get what he wants and more.
Russia agreed to build and construct enough nuclear energy facilities to supply all of Hungary’s electricity. But, this man wanted more like a huge payment. Toth created the opposition to the plan and his death well just who orchestrated the plan? This man has three ways of dealing with anyone that goes against him: Arrest them, kill them or bribe them. Anyone will do!
Craig Page now learns about the death of Emma Miller and that of Amos Neir, an Israelis Mossad agent that was his friend when he worked in the Middle East in the CIA. Giuseppe now the head of the EU Counterterrorism Agency requested his presence. Author Allan Topol keeps the suspense high and the twists and turns many as the research and the history behind the Russians and the Hungarians is not only accurate but reminds us of what the Russians did to the Hungarians in 1956. The author also shares what happened to Peter and his family. Israel was Craig’s next stop as the author first shares how Craig and Amos’s friendship built and was created and why Amos became a threat and needed to be eliminated. Moshe is the head of Mossad and now he would have to become involved and how Craig saw Amos Neir’s body pulled out of the Seine. Jean-Claude the head of French Intelligence needed to be informed and Craig was going to Israel as Enrico Marino the racecar driver, his new identity. While he was dealing with his friend’s murder, Elizabeth was focusing on the death of Emma Miller a Hungarian National working for a Swiss Bank. But, Nick has yet to arrive and learn about Emma but on the way he is fearful when she does not answer her phone and when he arrives he sees the French Police outside of her house and wisely approaches Elizabeth but someone happened to his voice. Things escalate from this point on as Elizabeth realizes who Nicholas Toth is related to Peter Toth, his grandfather who was burned in a fire. Emma Miller was Nicholas’s link but now she was gone and both Elizabeth and Craig would take charge of him but first they would have to decide how to keep him safe.
Nick attaches himself to both Elizabeth and Craig and when she suggests that he stay at a special clinic that can help him regain his voice hope to get him to talk again he agrees. Craig enlists his security team to protect all of them in case someone realizes that Nick is alive. While Craig was on his way to Amos’s funeral and Elizabeth was going to bring Betty the CIA director up to speed, she would cover learning more about Emma’s murder.
The author shares the life of Peter Toth and what led him to becoming close to Szabo and their falling out. His birth was 1948 and the Hungarian Uprising 1956, Defected to the US in 1977, Returned to Hungary in 1991 and finally moved to the US in 2016. Elizabeth then finds her way to Henri her boss and hopefully he will buy into what she has planned. Moshe, the head of Mossad was where Craig went along with Gideon who was also Mossad talked about the death of Amos and how it would be handled.
Omar hired Rachid, Yassir and Mohammad Omar planned to gain support for him and Shamil. His goal was to carry out an assassination plan to take out Kuzov and the Prime Minister of Hungary.
Elizabeth then wants to learn more about Peter and Emma so she questions Gyorgy Kovac in Budapest who is now running Peter Toth Industries. The disputes increased and then Szabo decided to become close to Kuznov and this time Janos who is now justice minster cannot fix it. Emma was the CFO of Peter’s company and when Peter liquidated his business and funds Emma moved to Paris and took a job with Credit Suisse. remain Zoltan Toth reveals even more when we meet him and he tells a story that will rip your heart apart about the truth behind why Peter became hardened to him, what really happened to his mother and the end result alienated them both. Craig then had to relate to Giuseppe something in confidence hoping he would not tell anyone else especially Jean-Claude. During his meeting with him he reveals information about Omar and then things heat up even more.
Security in place but that did not stop an attack and Nick handled it but was shaken up. Nicholas explains how he snuck down to the basement to listen to watch the Nats game. He relates what he heard and what he was trained to do but never expected what he was about to learn. The author then shares how Emma became involved and how Amos and Emma’s murders might converge leading to Omar. Szabo is planning to come to Paris and Amos found out what he was doing and that Peter wanted to take down his plans so he had to be killed. Craig’s meeting with Kuznov is quite telling and the end result did he believe what Craig told him? From Washington to Maryland, Paris, Israel, Budapest and Russia this book spans the globe and the end result when the plan is put into place and the final scene is enacted you won’t believe the end game. Just what agreement did Kuznov and Szabo have? What affect would it have on the other European countries? Who set the plan in motion to take out both of these leaders? What did Nick overhear that his grandfather told Emma? Why did Worth not go along with what Betty, Craig and others told him? What about Sardinia? Stories, cover-ups, plans, plots and one young girl named Ayanna who might hold the key to taking it all down but what did she want in return and will it be granted? The ending will leave you spellbound and the final result will endanger many of those involved but who will survive and who will die? Will they take out Omar? What about Nick? The Russian Resurrgence: YES OR NOT?
