A Real Pair of Sweethearts

A REAL PAIR OF SWEETHEARTS: DORIS McCURRY

Practical jokes can come back and bite you in the face especially when you accuse the wrong person of enacting them. Within this novel you will meet Sophie and Douglas two adults yet children. Both called into the office of their employer and asked to work on specific and important account for Vanguard a hardware store. Each one wanting the top position and hoping to move ahead in the company and rise to instant advertising fame. But, what happens next will bring not only smiles to your face but you will shake your head and wonder whether these two will ever grow up, own up to their own mistakes but even more you will learn their innermost insecurities, their innermost thoughts and you the reader will decide if the title fits and they are really a pair of sweethearts in progress.

Someone flattened her tire and making it necessary for her to deal with it on the spot. But, who had her car towed and inconvenienced her causing her to spend unnecessary money to not only get the tire repaired but pay for the cab fares and the towing charges? Douglas was her choice of culprits and Sophie decided to get even with him even though he claimed innocence. Calling the police with some bogus idea she crazy glued the lock on his door so he would not be able to get in for two hours waiting for the super. Next, she’s told that there is a gas leak in her building and has to own up to the tenants for having them evacuated in the cold. Sophie and Douglas are acting like two kids in first grade or nursery school each one accusing the other of these acts. But, neither focuses on the big picture, the ad campaign until the next day when Mr. Fisk fires them both. Many underlying factors will be revealed as both Sophie and Douglas have to fess up to their parents as to why they are now unemployed.

Douglas’s parents, mainly his mother has mapped out his life, his dates and even made calls to get him jobs, which he lost in the past and now in the present. She even picks his dates making him wanting to remain single forever and never really considering what his needs and wants are in finding not just anyone but the right person for him. Sophie’s mother does not live near her she is still wondering about her heritage and where she really came from since her father was and still is out of the picture.
When Douglas explains Sophie to his mother her reaction will surprise you and what Mr. Fisk their boss did to drive a wedge between them before they even considered being a team just who is the child in this story?

Things spiral in different directions, as Douglas owns up to his pranks and apologizes to Sophie but will this mend the fences?

Sophie has two choices to stay angry with Douglas or realize that she might have been mistaken in accusing him of flattening her tire. A harsh realization comes to light when she talks with the tow company’s man. Douglas has to rehash his own actions and when dealing with the situation they have to decide whether to continue acting childish or do something about their current predicament.

How to take action and take the bull by the horns? Fight back and see whether you have the muster to take on someone that caused you your vocation and your livelihood? Things change and they attempt to create what they think is a great ad campaign for Vanguard after getting an interview to present their ideas. But, will they mend their fences, will they create something so fantastic but first Sophie explains her past, her family and why she feels like she is invisible. Her insecurities come through and Douglas just might be her only hope to overcome them but will she and will he succeed? In the same vain will Douglas break free from his mother’s hold and fly on his own?
Wait until you join them for the ad presentation and learn just what hot and sizzling ideas they came up with and what the reaction was? St. Germain made his decision but the only way you will learn the outcome is if you read it yourself since it’s confidential and I don’t want the competition to find out.

Sophie and Douglas created by author Doris McCurry. It would be interesting to see if she brings them back and what their future holds. Two young people looking for love, adventure and creating something special with their ideas and ads to enrich their lives. But, will they ever live up to the title and become: A REAL PAIR OF SWEETHEARTS! Only time will tell!
