Sylvia Greene could not handle life anymore and decided to take her own by hanging herself. This odd but suspicious suicide of this well-known journalist sets of a chain of events that would lead back to what happened years before with a masked serial killer called the Pendulum. The author sends us to the mountains of Afghanistan where we are reintroduced to John Wallace who is haunted and plagued by the grief he feels for what happened to some of the soldiers he worked with. A masked killer attacked the police squad and from there on he’s been obsessed with finding this diabolical killer using a decapitation device.

Wallace and Bailey wind up in tenuous and difficult situations as Wallace flies back to Istanbul and is arrested for terrorism and placed in a cell. Bailey manages to infiltrate, they escape but Bailey and Wallace escape but only one winds up free. As Bailey is taken into custody and placed in a holding cell two men in masks try to question him and the torture becomes unbearable and the next prison is even worse. Using his skills he finally manages to escape while Ash meets her own makers that find their way to where she is supposed to be safe, two masked men, getting out she manages to find her way to safety but Harrell her boss seems do disconnect her views on the fact that the Pendulum was not working alone and might still be out there but where? Who are these men taking his place and what are they after? As Bailey was given a message from Sylvia Green of a code that has yet to be deciphered and Bailey’s condition is critical but not fatal as yet.

While Wallace already to somewhat safety after leaving Vosuruk, who was his savior behind and the killer whose trinkets give way to knowing someone named Babylon wanted to take down technology as we know it today and a digital conspiracy plot might still be in the works. As headquarters are compromised, safe houses watched, they finally believe that Wallace was the reason for the attack and the assassination attempt as he finally meets Ash and together they might be able to piece it all together but how?

Christina Ash goes through many difficult memories as we are reminded of her childhood, her father’s abusive behavior and what she is enduring at the hand of those who seem bent on destroying her abilities as an FBI agent and the lack of support she is getting for what she knows is the right way to proceed in the investigation. Wallace is her only hope and the one person that she trusts as Bailey contacts him with information that might help take them forward but both are struggling with their own demons and which one is either will survive or break?

Freefall is the name of the agency that is creating a bill to pass an online security act to take away anyone’s anonymity on the net. It would also control anything you bought, payments and more. A secretive organization called the Foundation was blackmailing key public figures in an effort to ensure that the international online security act aka Blake-Castillo bill, is passed into law and becomes the international standard for regulating the internet. Steven Byrne is what appears to be the man heading the Foundation but when the truths are revealed the final violent scenes come to a dramatic close you won’t believe what you will learn. The father of the Pendulum, he’s the man who just might take the fall for this entire thing but first Ash is captured, tortured, Bailey needs to find answers to who else is behind the foundation and before all is said and done more deaths will occur but which side will win?

Mike Rosen is the man who tried to kill Wallace and Smokie the man behind the Foundation but there are more players that still need to be caught and the ending of the book allows readers to know that author Adam Hamdy has more in store for John Wallace and someone close to what has already occurred.

When someone else is killed and Edward and Martha Rosen are confronted by Ash what she learns about their son will shock readers and Ash. Just what role did Michael play and how many others were working with the Pendulum?
Part 2 brings it all together as the author introduces the players behind the Foundation, to what lengths they would go to silence Wallace, Ash and Bailey and who can be trusted and who might be an agent but dirty. A reporter named Melissa that went all out to take them on and learned that no one is safe. Max Byrne is the Pendulum and Mike Rosen was the man who tried to kill Wallace in Afghanistan. Ethan Moore is the guy who pretended to be Mike’s nurse and the black man in the middle of a photo that Wallace is looking at and produced is Smokie.
A man named Salamander was at the heart of hoping to help Bailey along with young drug addict named Danny whose skills at the time needed were better than most of the others involved.
Steven Bryne, John Wallace, Christina Ash, Ethan Moore, Pat Bailey, Harrell, Reeves and Murrell and many others who are fighting for what they believe is their own private battle and causes but which side will win?

A powerful ending that will leave Ash and Bailey having to reassess their goals and choices but one will come out far ahead and learn that the Foundation might have been partially stopped but the war is not over yet.

Deaths, betrayals, deceits, cover-ups and one woman who sacrificed it all to prevent the events that happened from happened with a simple note and code but will anyone break it before it’s too late? John Wallace and Christina Ash what’s next for both of them and will they ever reconnect but first the ending lets you know that the author is just getting started and that there is at least one more chapter in the lives of these characters.
