Bad Time To Be In It: David Burnsworth
Relationships are fragile at times and reliving the past can bring back memories you might choose to forget. MICHAEL Crome and Blu Carraway have been P.I. partners for a long time. Flashing back to 2000 we learn about their family relationships. Crome meets someone that seemed to suit his needs and Amy was Blu’s wife at the time. Hope his daughter in the present joined his team and when Maureen, Crime’s girlfriend is kidnapped things take on a different turn
Tess and harmony are two tough women afraid of nothing and will join the team to find Maureen. However when Crome goes rogue and wants to handle things on his own, Blu places a tracker on his car and harmony is following him. Things get out of control when Patricia, the owner of one of the 3 newspapers finds Blu in her office needing her resources and skills to find Maureen. Crome is not that far off base when he demands knowing the information she gave Blu, but when the mayor and harmony both disappear things take on a different perspective.
Harmony is linking up with the mayor for some intimate time and dealing with a case she’s working on. But, events go awry and she disappears and the mayor becomes a fatality and everyone needs to focus . Darcy and Brack set things in motion as the rest of the team joins them to discuss strategy. Crome is impetuous and deals with things in his own way not wanting to work as a team but Brack ropes him in and two detectives in two separate departments have to decide whether Maureen and Harmony’s disappearances are linked.
Blu has his own strategy but Josie Patricia’s niece is a crackerjack hacker and what she finds and the footage Tess gets from where the mayors boat left from reveals an unidentified I intruder on the boat. With the help of
Detective Wilson, some footage from different video’s they are able to get the license plate of the car that took Maureen. Harmony calls Blu and gives him some obscure clues but will that be enough for them to figure out what she is telling them and to find her and Maureen? Crome is over the top again and Blu and Tess are trying to come up with their next move, as Darcy is concerned about Brack especially being with Crome.
Tess Ray is tough and throughout the novel you can feel the tension between her and Blu as Billie, the woman he wants to marry has yet to accept his proposal and Tess claims she’s had enough time. Will he decide to shift gears but first finding Harmony and Maureen comes first. Crome has his own method of solving cases but Blu with his connections along with Darcy Pelton, Tess and Patricia would do some hardcore questioning of an informant named John while the men found evidence of something in Blu’s past that would trigger the reason for why the Mayor was killed and why Harmony and Maureen were taken. But, will the he able to stop what was started?
Harmony and Tess are strong characters each having flaws yet both strong willed and smart. Harmony will do anything to get a story and using any means to get it while Tess is more reserved in some ways yet when she walks into a room she easily gets the information she wants. Things take on many difficult turns when Harmony is taken and Tess uses her own wiles and intelligence to get the information she wants and will not succumb to threats or overtures made.
Harmony and Brack at one point seem to enjoy their playful conversation but Tess was too smart for her own good. While Harmony the author relates has at least two, or sometimes three men to toy with where as Tess had problems keeping one. But, how does Brack’s wife feel about Harmony so close to her husband? Tess’s job was to monitor the tracker placed on Crome’s motorcycle while Blu went to the office of Palmetto Pulse to meet with Patricia who sold it. Blu’s Investigation jobs sometimes ended badly but he needed her help to find Maureen and then Harmony. Josie, her niece is an expert hacker and this young girl did not hesitate to jump on the bandwagon and join the team to find Maureen. Author David Burnsworth weaves an intricate plot filled with subplots leading to someone wanting to take down Blu Carraway Investigations and destroy both Blu and Crome. Who? Why? That has yet to be revealed plus Blu’s moral dilemma about his feelings for Billie and his conflicting ones for Tess and what about Patricia?
The mayor’s body was washed up but why was he killed? Why didn’t they link Maureen and Harmony and the Mayor as one case, why was Maureen considered separate and another police precinct was handling it? Crome decided to work with the Myrtle Beach detective and was on his way there. Detective Williams would be his link to finding Maureen Lewis. Using people to get information they question Jim Wilson hoping he won’t get fired for giving Pelton and Crome information that they need to find the girls. Pelton along with these two questioned him and they learned that Maureen’s abduction came from someone out of town but who and why?
Bar fights, guns drawn, fake fights, cameras in bars more than a bank, David Burnsworth takes this novel to the highest heights as Blu, Crome, Pelton and the police come face to face with an unknown assailant as we learn the truth behind why Harmony and Maureen were taken. An explosive ending that will keep readers guessing and your heart pumping as Harmony faces off with her captor, Maureen’s life is in question and Blu listens to Pelton’s idea and hopes it will pan out. Friendships and loyalties tested, moral issues brought to light, hopes failed, memories of the past coming to the present and the final outcome will make you wonder where Blu is going next and what will Crome do if and when he finds Maureen and will their partnership stand the test of time! My favorite scene is with the horse named Murder who proves that animals are loyal and nothing gets past this horse including a villain but you won’t believe how! The final scene will make you wonder what Blu’s future will hold and will he choose to wait for Billie’s answer, go with his feelings for Tess or what about Patricia? It’s a difficult time for both Blu and Crome. It’s a BAD TIME TO BE IN IT! OR ?
