Flight of the Fox

Flight of the Fox: Gary Basnight

When Sam Teagarden woke up that morning he never thought that his life would change forever. Why would someone want to take him out? Imagine if you will being attacked by four drones in your own home and having to figure out how to remain safe inside or actually trying to attack these drone and hopefully defeat them at their own game. Sam is not guilty and yet there are many FBI agents and others that are after him if what he has found and stumbled upon becomes public knowledge. Receiving an encoded document consisting of 34 pages he gets to work trying to decipher them. They land in his in-box in his email and what he learns about a series of government cover-ups in reality is like ripping what the author relates right out of the news today. Learning somehow that he has these files is why the cluster of mini-drones are programmed and sent to kill Sam. Sam is resourceful and at times uses his sense of justice and humor to take action and think on his feet or in flight as he winds up stealing clothes from a religious man’s room, pretending to be ultra orthodox, traveling in disguise and winding up in upstate New York and then hoping to outfox these hit men who are one step or more ahead of him at times even when he thinks he’s invisible and under the radar. Finding his way to a hotel and registering without a credit card he befriends the manager only to have her turn on him and give information to the one man he sees when this all begins. Before fleeing to New York enlists the help of 11 year old Billy Carney who is smart and technology savvy and who uses a special app on his phone as a camera enabling both Sam and Billy to see the surrounding areas of his property and more and then something happens and Billy winds up killed. Sam becomes the one accused of his death sending him on the run for his life.

Finally finding this hotel and realizing that he will have to encrypt what was sent to him would not happen right away until he finally escapes the hotel, changes his identity and then using the email of someone named Dan and pretending to be him by answering his emails from his wife, he uses it to hopefully decipher the files and what he learns will shock readers into understanding just who wrote these letters, why they would change the dynamics of one government agency and just how many lives would be changed and destroyed. This journal that he was sent will undoubtedly reveal a tragic truth.
Things get more dangerous when they realize that Sam was staying on Cynthia’s boat and now they had to move quickly finding another safe place. But, she enlists the help of someone from her law school days hoping he can place Sam or both of them in a safe place but McCannlis is smart and somehow finds them and the end result is another death and more tragedy. What would happen if the information gets out now that the House has it?

Sam is smart but the agents after him are relentless and although the Speaker of the House now has the 34 pages someone above him wants them destroyed knowing that information about Kennedy, Dr. King and possibly the sexual preference of J Edgar Hoover and his boyfriend might come out. Sam’s new girlfriend Cynthia gets shot and is speaking to the press while he connects with his daughter Eve, both knowing that she is being watched but little do they know who the other passenger in the plane that brought her to Key West is. Former FBI agent Clyde Tolson is the infamous CAT in the letters and the documents are the reasons why three black ops agents are after him.

Ice Skater AKA McCanliss is on the run hoping to complete his task dealing with Sam when he hears the press talking about Sam and that he might not have killed Billy, or Svetlana and possibly is innocent of all crimes that he has been sought for. Maybe someone else committed them and what about Cynthia’s law friend from law school who ordered his death and why?

The Dear John file is revealing and the end result would be tragic if the public or any of the agencies involved knew the information, which partially explains why Sam is the primary target. As the pieces fit together and the final explosive scene comes to light Sam faces a dangerous killer, two members of the Black Ops are betrayed, one Congressman is expendable and the final outcome is the creative genius of author Gray Basnight and Eva, Sam’s daughter. As the drone takes flight and the victim learns his/her fate you won’t believe the ending and where Sam, Eva and Pangolin wind up. Sam, Eva, Cynthia, Speaker Alderman, Sheriff Klumm, McCanliss and the members of the Black Ops team after their prey creates an ending you won’t expect as each person just mentioned will either pay the ultimate price, have to deal with the fallout or hope that the FLIGHT OF THE FOX is successful. Who lives? Who dies? Find out when you read this explosive book. But, What happened to Dan? Fear is a powerful weapon and within this novel the author manages to create fear within Sam’s heart and mind and Eva hoping to keep him alive. Even those against him fear the end outcome because no one can be trusted and the ultimate goal is to win and please the tenth floor. Power, greed, control, revenge, hate, fear, uncertainty, betrayals and 34 lethal pages that could change the course of many lives and history too. As Sam and his team work their way to taking down McCanliss, McCanliss is doing the same hoping to take them all out. But, what will be the ultimate result?
