Held Together: Jenny Q

In a world where people are often concerned about their own problems or dealing with issues that are singular and self serving enter the village of Joshua Tree and learn the meaning of caring community spiritual wisdom and love as the individual members of the community tell the heartfelt story and experiences when they met Jenny Q. The event that tied the knot and created the strong connection to Jenny and why so many loved and adored her at first sight and devastated by what happened to her is told in short heartbreaking chapters that allows readers to get to know Jenny the herbalist who’s the inspiration and guiding spirit for this book and with the words of each community member you understand the meaning of held together.

Each person’s reaction was different yet the same and everyone tried to think of a way to help heal her with song prayer hope or being a support for Myshkin her true love.

Each person’s words and thoughts were expressed with love for Jenny. Some came long distances to be part of the vigil at the hospital. Jenny’s family arrived and even Myshkin’s help care for Yazzy her daughter and to offer live and support. Through Jenny we hear her voice as she allows us to understand her Palestinian parents and strict upbringing and her missteps and growths. A simple surgery gone wrong brought so many to the Ho spoon Joshua Tree.

Powerful words as each friend or family member relates his /her journey with Jenny until she finally opens her eyes.

Myshkin’s heart ❤is strong and her undying love for Jenny comes through as she bears her soul to readers and reminds us if of Yazzy the innocent child needing nurturing and protection and receiving it from so many.

Harsh realities come to light and although she’s aware her limbs are not and losing part of her legs and some fingers is life changing and more as the journey takes a downward swing and we learn about Jenny’s mom and her feelings toward Myshkin. Not everyone accepts a relationship between two women and as you get to know Myshkin and hear her voice and that of Jenny you can feel the connection and the love.

A story told in many voices and a woman who was loved and revered by an entire community. So many speak out and their words are powerful, filled with hope and love for Jenny. Hearing each person’s recount of how they met her, came to believe in her and become part of her life, her business and her family, everyone reading this would love to be a member of Joshua Tree. Within Joshua tree there are doctors and hospital officials that care plus her father as a doctor feel frustrated because his hands are tied and he can only do so much. Families, friends, acquaintances and an entire community came together to support Jenny and help with Yazzy. Jenny lets readers understand her past and her fears for the future. The poems that she and Myshkin share are from the heart. Each member of the community shares a poem, prayer, chant or spiritual wish hoping she’d hear it. What is paramount is her survival. When mistakes are made in the medical community it takes courage, hope and  the will to survive to overcome adversities. The pictures at the end of those who added their love, points of view and thoughts spell out LOVE for Jenny Q. A story that everyone should read and one that teaches us that against all odds and against what everyone thought THERE IS JENNY Q!

Worlds change but love is forever as we learn about another setback.
