Every Wicked Man: Steven James
The circle of deception and deceit runs high as you hear the thoughts and mindsets of six characters whose viewpoints and inner most lies, fears and hopes often cloud their thinking and prevents and hides the true facts from others. Patrick Bowers, Tessa Ellis, Christie Ellis, Blake, Derek, Timothy, Sasha, Reece and Jake presents their inner thoughts on the events that unfold and how their mindsets create their path within the story.
The voice we hear first is not one of the above but that if Jon Murray a young man about to take his own life while videoing the event in real time. Imagine taking an office chair and handcuffing yourself to each side and then pushing it into a waiting pool but not before leaving your final words for the world to hear. Was it suicide or murder?
As Bowers begins to investigate the suicide and meets with the Senator the young man’s father at first you get a sense of despair and cooperation. As the investigation moves along and Bowers watches the video his insight and realization helps readers and his team realize that someone was watching the entire event within the house or near a window and let it happen. Why?
Events change and the funeral takes place and we learn about a woman at the funeral and running for her life when Bowers spots her. As this transpires somewhere else we hear Blake’s voice while Sasha looks on as this mass killer and drug and sex trafficking dealer provides a lesson in betrayal in real time.
Sasha’s voice holds emotion but she forced to watch something happen as Mannie arrives and tells her to disappear and never return.
Christie helps readers understand her fears and the author includes Bible verses and references to aid her journey and path in the hope she will find some consolation and understanding.
The banter between Tessa and Bowers gives us insight into their relationship and the references to different animals, species and drugs are enlightening.
When Tessa winds up at Federal Plaza with Bowers and the dramatic scene with Mannie unfolds you wonder how close to reality this is.
Requests for the DNA found belonging to a jacket left behind and the owner of a car draws Bowers and his partner Greer closer to learning more about another operation in place that left them blindsided for the moment.
Blake and Derek are a team and one runs it all and the other executes in various ways.
When Christie comes home and Sasha is about to meet with Blake she realizes that something is off while Timothy has a book signing got his latest novel all the time imagining that Emily the child in his book is real. Yet the fate of Julianne is in question and his solution might not be what he even expected.
Throughout the novel we are reminded of the code that has the key to finding what Mannie is trying to tell Bowers, his visit to the cemetery, the reference of the two words Remember Death and the fear that what he finds will unravel more than what he expects. Added in his wife, Christie is away and the truth behind her visit to the monastery has yet to be revealed to him and Christie has to learn how to accept her fate and hopefully provide the love and understanding between her daughter and Bowers in the future.
Things get dangerous when Sasha falls prey to what Blake has planned and ultimately you learn that she had to make a choice which will end a life if Bowers can’t stop what he’s watching as we learn who has orchestrated The suicides, who gets off on watching them the person called the Matchmaker who’s behind it all.
Beyond the realm of anything Bowers could conceivably think could be behind the videos and the deaths could someone close to him be a plant? With Ralph Newman’s help and a team that he hopes is not corrupt will the answers be found and the bodies uncovered?
The pieces got together and the hidden truths, lies, deceits and corruption ran up to the top. As Bowers and Ralph learned just who the Matchmaker was, the person behind the suicides, who orchestrated them and the monetary value of each allowing observers for a price, but there’s much more. As both Tessa and Christie are in danger and Bowers and Blake are at a standstill that will come out alive?
Denial, anger, bargain, depression and acceptance: just where do this fit in and how do they connect, as we all deny what we don’t want to accept. We all like Bowers get angry and push for answers and at times bargain and deal to solve a case. Depression when the unexpected happens and you can’t control the tragic ending and acceptance in order to move on.
Author Steven James takes Bowers, Timothy, Tessa, Christie, Ralph, and even the senator through each stage as we come to an ending that is shocking, revealing, filled with hope, truth and love. How far will someone go to get what he wants in order to get people to go against their will using mannequin called silent ladies whose deadly composition was anything but silent as they screamed death. A lie isn’t a gift the truth is. As you read this thought provoking novel you will learn what happens when power, greed, deception and retribution foster so many to manipulate, coheres and destroy for the sake of supposedly helping others but in reality we have several who fit the definition of those that are evil or the true meaning of: every wicked man.
Some endings are finality for some and for others a new beginning as author Steven James takes each one of us through denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance until the critical and crucial ending that reveals the truth behind what several thought would hide their inner most lies, deceptions, betrayals as not only Timothy’s hope for the future, his dealing with the past and his mother and father’s deeds, the guilt he feels and has been a burden throughout his life, Sasha who became a victim of someone’s deception, Tessa who had to deal with her own fears and emotional upheavals and Bowers who remained faithful and hopeful throughout. Every Wicked Man: Which of these characters would you say gets the highest rating in that category? The Code that Bowers had to figure out where Mannie wanted him to go and a thumb drive that contained findings on overcoming atmospheric quantum encryption network. Imagine having that much power and being able to receive unhackable communications with any terrorist group worldwide. Each of the voices is so powerful and each one wanted to be heard yet each was attacked and someone wanted to silence the voices that would destroy their master plan to control a technology industry that would give someone a way to decipher the code and would rule the world. Every Wicked Man wants power: Did anyone one of the voices heard attain it?
