Not ready to call it a night he becomes engulfed in conversation with someone named Justin who for some reason keeps Davis there longer then normal. Oddly enough Tilley the woman he just turned down renters and the rest when he awakens is a blur. How did he get back to his room? What happened to the broken mirror? Why is everything in order neatly arranged? What happened that he can’t remember and the last words Justin spoke: You ready to have the time of your life, would haunt his memory and bring him down in more ways than he would ever imagine. A business trip that might destroy his life and take away all that’s precious to him.
One night just might unravel it all and yet you wonder what’s real within his mind. Never thinking that he was set up, Davis panics and falls prey to a danger predator. With his business partner telling him how to proceed and claiming he has a lawyer and an investigator looking into who Justin is the reader wonders why Davis fell for the blackmail. Lying to his wife Hattie and playing Russian Roulette with his accounts, Davis unravels and his business is about to fold and the software he created might never be sold and clients might never materialize.
Todd seems to want to help him and his calm Artois frightening, as you wonder why he does not seem affected by what is happening to Davis.
Text with graph pictures of Davis with women and even a picture incriminating him in a murder. What’s real and what’s orchestrated and it gets worse. Deciding to take his family to their cabin to relax creates more tension as Justin’s up in odd places and ways. Just how did he learn where he was and why was he acting as a cashier in a market? When Hattie becomes alarmed and he shuts her out thinks get worse as the blackmailer, Justin has his own agenda or plans in mind. Just how much and how often bury the pictures and not come after his family?
Davis is distraught and out of options and decides to have his company sold to Todd making it appear as if he’s bankrupt. Cards declined and money no longer there just how does Justin show up when he’s with Hattie at the market and how safe are his girls?
Fighting Justin and a midnight meeting turns ugly and the harsh betrayal and reveal will shock readers when the truth comes to light as to who is the real mastermind behind Davis’s downfall. Greed, power, unyielding wealth and author Mike McCrary teaches a strong lesson in decision-making and wrong choices. Trust is at the core of the prime issue in this novel as Davis loses trust within himself and Hattie learns the truth behind his erratic behavior and money issues. But at the heart are the lies, betrayals and manipulations that might sever their relationship and take down their hopes for a future.
Justin finds his way to take hold of Hattie and the girls but something snaps within Davis and Hattie’s behavior is odd as both are at the mercy of two diabolical killers and scam artists and the final ending that the author created is heart stopping, bone chilling and original. Sometimes endings are final and when Todd reveals how he made them rich why does Davis feel angered and the ultimate betrayal?
What was Todd’s solution and why was Davis fueled with anger? When you wake up one morning without any memory of what happened the night before and you are now an unwilling participant in a money draining and blackmail scheme, you feel trapped, tied, and fearful that your hands are bound and your options are few and the end result is that you might have to think out of the box and pray you don’t pay a huge penalty at the end.
The final scenes are well developed and prove that Davis underestimated his wife. Will he win the final showdown? The clock is ticking and if he fails he will lose more than money?
When someone continues in a determined way and is bent on getting his/ her way you’d think they thought they are unstoppable. Davis, Todd, Hattie, and Justin: just how far will each one go to get what they want? Which one fits the true definition of Relentless? You decide after reading this outstanding psychological thriller filled with mind games, pawns on a chessboard and someone so devious hiding in plain sight you won’t see it coming. Relentless: just where will it get you and what about Davis?
Pictures speak a thousand words and all too often as in Davis’s case you believe what is in front of you. With so much technology out there you never know how someone can create something that might be true or possibly not. Panic sets in and a plan formulated as Davis confronts his innermost fears and faces off with two diabolical people. One a psychopath and the other delusional and greedy. Leaving Hattie in the dark and alienating his one person he should trust Davis has to make a final choice and decide what’s valuable to him. : Family survival or money. The choice is up to him and either way he might never recover. What is the final choice and will his life ever be the same as the author leaves that up to you the reader to decide when you read the final pages of this five star novel. Choices and decision: think before you decide!
