Criminal Misdeeds: Randee Green
Recalcitrant unruly rude and defies the laws the Shatner family runs their own lives in a disorderly fashion. Never expecting to be arrested or charged got their illegal actions and thinking they’re above the law the final outcome of their New a Year’s Party brings the wrath of many law enforcement agencies. But, these people are poor excuses for adults and when you meet this belligerent group you’ll understand why. Carrie Shatner is a detective with the Wyatt County Sheriff’s office and her uncle is the sheriff. But, things spiral out of control normally with her family but what she finds while closing down the party site and locking up stirs up old wounds, old feuds, and family against family wars dating way back in time.
Carrie sees something in a dumpster and at this point she had to decide whether to call for help or handle it on her own. Going against her uncle’s wishes the phone call made brings down just about every law enforcement group around each hoping to get a piece of the case since it was evident that what was found in the dumps was a dead body.
Keeping the crime scene secured and her deputies canvassing the area, Carrie is flooded with tons of police chiefs from different counties before Texas Ranger Jerrod Hardy arrives and takes the case and the situation by storm. You see there’s much more revealed as her entire family is being kept in the dark until well until they’re not but first we meet their arch enemies the Palmers and they crashed the party making sure their presence was known but the body belonged to them. Kyle Vance was the victim and he just so happened to be Carrie’s ex’s-boyfriend making her a prime suspect as well as all of her family.
Questioning both sides would not be easy as these so called adults acted like teen bullies.
Hardy questions Carrie as she shares her relationship with Kyle seemed unhealthy and odd since he seemed obsessed with her and she just went along with his constant texts and demands on her. He literally wanted to own her yet he’s married or was married but did he cheat? Carrie caught him in the act with Whitney the girl he married and his family claims he was with them at their party and crashing the Shatner’s but never returned with them. Running a background check on Kyle the offenses were huge and the arrests many. Chief Deputy Quaranta ran the check and is working part of the case.
Carrie continues to explain about Kyle and his obsessive-compulsive behavior and the end result blaming her for ruining his life and marrying Whitney. But, the fun just started as her wacky family crushes the interview room and Hardy meets the many generations of older Shatners.
Hardy and Carrie question both families and the scene is right out of a Laurel and hardy movie. Each side accusing the other and both claiming Kyle was present when they crashed the Shatner’s party and the other claiming they never saw him. So, how did he wind up in the dumpster? Added in Carrie goes with Hardy to question the Palmers and Whitney ‘s wild accusations rile Carrie up. Kyle cheated but what she reveals is shocking but Whitney’s light bulb is fuller than a dead bulb.
Dale who’s Murph’s son is a complete idiot and questioning him was like talking to a blank page. Carrie tries to question her family each member attacking her loyalties yet her granddaddy seemed proud of her but even before football game ended she was told to leave.
Things get worse when she has to get Dale out of a bar trunk like a skunk and his sobbing and blubbering does not make you sorry for him just annoyed.
Things spiral out of control and yet Carrie is forced to assist with the investigation going against Hardy’s best judgment.
Questioning both families yields anger; name-calling and very little that would even incriminate anyone since both claim different versions of Kyle’s whereabouts. Questioning his wife is wasted time and energy and Whitney’s allegiance or supposedly being upset about his death is a phony as a three- dollar bill. Added in Carrie and Hardy go to the strip club that he worked as a bouncer in and learned more about his escapades with the dancers and you wonder why his wife got an STD.
Continuing their search for answers the ME explains his injuries, bruises and the cause of death which is a head injury and many others that contributed to what happened to Kyle but the time of death does not exonerate either family but could it be someone else? Things continue to fire up as Carrie finds Kyle’s truck and Zeke the bartender explains how Kyle used the truck but has no idea how it wound up where she found it. Lies, betrayals, concealments, family disputes and two families that will do anything to discredit and hurt the other but why it seems it’s too long standing to really remember and some say just because they always hated each other. Carrie is tossed in the middle of it all and yet you wonder if one of her family members is guilty, will she cover it up even though she claims she wont. Family loyalties are tested, friendships might fall apart but will Hardy face the fact that maybe he might think of Carrie as more than just a great detective?
Investigating what was in the dumpster behind the bar might have yielded the murder weapon and the ire of chief Yates claiming jurisdiction. Tagging and bagging the evidence then finding somewhere to eat after going at Whitney again, Hardy reveals a harsh reality about his past. Things between him and Carrie change but the case is paramount in his mind and hers too. A town filled with secrets, lies and criminals hiding in plain sight and rarely caught or arrested.
Things get worse as a Palmer stabs two of Carrie’s cousins and her two uncles want it covered up and handled their way. But right out of a keystones comedy things get wild in the ER and then Carrie realizes that everything is out of control but that’s nothing compared to another dead body showing up. Just how far will she go to cover for her family? Just how many obstacles will bar the truths from being revealed? Is there an orchestrator?
Things get wild and events converge as Carrie puts all together but someone wants her eliminated. An ending filled with mishaps, humor, sarcasm and disorganization that only Carrie and maybe hardy can sort out but will they survive the wrath of someone who wants it all covered up? The final reveal will surprise or not surprise readers but how the killers are taken down and who killed whom was created by the ingenuity and creativity of author Randee Green. So, will Carrie realize she met her match in Hardy or will she walk away? What’s next for her and the two feuding families? What happens when two families so evenly matched yet so mismatched live their lives by thinking they won’t get arrested or caught for their criminal misdeeds?
