A simple dinner with two close friends sets of a chain of events that embroils Jessica once again in solving a murder. Thomas Rudd storms into the restaurant where Jessica, Seth Hazlitt and Mort Metzger are having dinner. Things heat up quickly as Rudd makes formal accusations against his publisher. Jessica becomes incensed since they have the same publisher. But a dear friend and account will enlighten her to some hard gold facts that will stir her up making Jessica want to know more and placed center stage in a murder investigation as Thomas Rudd winds up dead missing their meeting arson seems to be the cause. Author Jon Land takes us deep inside the world of Publishing giving us a first hand understanding of how royalties are supposed to be sent but what we learn will stun only Jessica but most authors too.
Learning more about Rudd’s death and then her publisher’s, Jessica is faced with trying to sort out the mystery of the manuscript that Lane Barfield bought for an exorbitant amount of money. But, when dealing with Zara his assistant and checking his files the manuscript is nowhere to be found. Jessica does have a copy and Rudd stole the flash drive with this book but both are gone. Will Jessica learn more from reading it? Working with the police she’s privy to information and visits the crime scenes but will she be in the crosshairs of a killer? Trusts come apart and past relationships are under suspicion as Jessica faces her own private demons and wonders where this will leave her and it changes the dynamics of her career.
Jessica had a copy of The Affair and author Jon Land created a duel plot in this novel as the reader gets to read the manuscript along with Jessica and we learn about the President’s daughter and an unknown narrator who claims to be there to protect her as a Guardian. But, there’s more as Jessica is on the train to Cabot Cove but someone is watching her and you can feel the tension rising in both plots but does this manuscript have anything within it related to the two deaths?
The plot thickens and Abby the President’s daughter in this manuscript revealed what she overheard her parents talking about as Pace the man claiming to be part of the Guardians explains their next move and the hidden truths that have to remain silent and not revealed. As Jessica in the present learns of another death namely AJ Falcone whose death might be linked to this manuscript but who is this author really? Does he exist? Needing to protect one more author who might have been asked to read the manuscript before its pub date endangering the life of Alice Bond. Could she be next? The intertwining plots created by author Jon Land allows more than just a touch of suspense and intrigue but allows readers to see and hear Jessica on a whole new plane. This is a more contemporary Jessica and even Mort reveals skills that me might not have had before allowing progress to be made and their characters more current fitting perfectly into this new murder/thriller series.
When Alice Bond is found along with a park ranger added to Thomas Rudd, Lane Barfield and A.J. Falcone the events seem to revert to this elusive author of The Affair and when we get to read more of this novel maybe something will intertwine both plots.

Two narrators Abby and Jessica both try to uncover the hidden truths and lies that have affected so many lives. Abby confronts her father, the President and what he reveals is shocking and what she decides to do remains to be seen. While Jessica is now under guard but the killers remain at large and getting at her was paramount and destroying her home their mode of execution hoping no one will hear her screams or smell the smoke. But, an unexpected person finds her and his reasons for being there are tied to the murders in New York. But, Jessica is relentless and if the manuscript is not completely destroyed maybe there’s a hidden clue to be uncovered.
Things take an odd turn as two jurisdictions unite and both are trying to deal with Jessica who’s hoping to connect the murders to the missing manuscript pages. As they add up the events Jessica realizes the connection to the storyline and Abby but why is Zara missing?
Within this complex plot there are many unspoken lies and truths that are uncovered that help to link both the fictional story created by an author and the real world that sends Jessica to Washington and the first family. A simple text sets Jessica in motion a d a deceit is revealed and the link to fiction becomes a harsh truth in the present. When Jessica faces off with the person who orchestrated a plan so diabolical and so heinous you begin to wonder if this fictional plot is not a reality. Just what does she uncover and whose going to pay? Will Jessica write another murder or will her ending be the same as in The Affair? Author Jon Land created an ending so explosive and so original you won’t see the bullets fly or who’s shooting them as this ending is a matter of national security and can’t be revealed. How far will someone go to gain power and control? How far will someone go to orchestrate and perpetrate a lie in order to protect his/her own life and future? Just who is running the government in the fictionalized story and could this happen in the real world today? Author Jon Land gives us much to think about as Jessica faces off with someone that is supposed to be a friend and learns the true meaning retribution.
Who wins? Who else is sacrificed? Who is the true creator of a fictional novel that turned out to be true? Will Jessica learn the hidden secret of what lies within the pages of Manuscript for Murder?
