A Parting in the Sky: Mark Sasse
Can someone renew themselves after spending many years as a nasty, grumpy and hardheaded man? Dare to contradict this man only brings on his wrath. Francis Frick is back, and his story continues but where will it end. After losing Penny, his right-hand girl and many of his employees when his business was blown up, Frick has now become a guest and as subject of interest of the FBI. Agents Adams and O’Malley are hot on his trail but this time the result will not be quite the same. Hatty Parker is at the core of the new set of troubles as someone wants her badly in order to complete what this person has in mind. Twenty -two years old and she is a match for Francis and the only one who knows how to make deals with agents and get Frick to see it her way. Bee is back but is in serious trouble and Ash as we relive his birth in the prologue was created from Ash as we are reminded of Zette who controls them both and her plans for each one is different and not always honorable. Bee and Ash as angelic characters and they are a pair until they were separated. Frick is the key to whatever is going to happen, and promises were made, and relationships torn apart. Frick is clever and smart and wants to bargain with the Feds and in between it all his assistant Haddock gets drawn into what will transpire but someone more devious has the entire plot woven and constructed hoping to orchestrate the endings in his own diabolical manner. Reenter Heinrich Ulrich our villain from the fist two books when Frick and Hatty disappeared in Africa and now we meet up with both of them in a different light as Hatty tries to change her past and the outcome of her father’s death, while Ruth and Rachany who has been given Chandra a daughter needs to protect her and learn more about where she came from, how and why. Reminding readers that Haddock went to Scotland and wanted to find Frick’s father and his family we learn more about Ulrich when we meet his mother a former Frick. Truths are about to change, and events will be altered in order to bring different closures to different people. But Bee and Ash are at the center of what will happen, and Ash becomes livid with his behavior when they meet a young boy who seems to want but coming face to face with Ulrich as a younger person changes it all. The goal the entire time in all three parts of this trilogy is to rid the world of Ulrich but as of now he holds the key to the finale and what Hatty hopes will free her from his bondage as he kidnapped her, find out the truth about her father and decide whether she will let him go, allow him to die on the bus or change history. Each time they disappear, and the FBI shows up no one knows where Francis winds up and Bee takes matters into her own hands, but things will take on a difficult turn as we learn what Bee’s fate is now.
Zette is the key to Bee’s fate and has banished her from earth. Loyalties are grayed and Zette has something that will change it all. Ulrich has his own plans and the truth behind what is happening and now the bombings related to Monroe and Hatty’s father, take city on a new and dangerous course unless it can be stopped. As Frick and O’Malley come to verbal blows and bee needs to choose sides what will happen next and where will Francis be sent?
O’Malley gets a call and Francis goes into a tirade and we learn more about the cards and why Monroe Hatty boss is not who they think he is and the identity of his partner shocking Francis. Bee has used her actions to defy what Zette wants and she has not followed the rules and taking care of Francis and saving his life from death places her out of range and not wanting her to be part of them anymore. Zette is one sided, single minded and wants Bee out of Ash’s range. Allowing him to reenter Earth the heartbreaking scenes where she finally leaves makes readers hope they will be reunited. The ending left us wonder where Ulrich, Haddock, Francis now in critical condition in the hospital with gunshot wounds, O’Malley, Adams and Kruger their boss who seems to have been exiled when Ulrich wants to talk as se wonder what will happen next and where will Be finally wind up. She was given one day to make it right. But all hope was gone when she was sent into the parting of the sky. No longer allowed to be a watcher, Bee is no longer able to help anyone.
This is a story about transformations, forgiveness, unrequited love and Francis Frick, Bee, Ash, Hatty and Haddock who must find their own way in worlds that are familiar yet unchanneled in many respects. Ash the special fairy that creates love in so many ways and yet sacrifices his own happiness in order to save others. When Frick, Hatty, Ash and even Bee take journeys into their pasts, what they learn will change it all in the present but what will that do for them in the future?
With the FBI still closely guarding him, Frick an arms dealer, is now in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Hatty, Francis’s pal and cohort, Ash who is our watcher and seems to create miracles without being seen yet Frick feels the power of his magic, Bee, who has been exiled and whose mainstay is pomegranates and watch as these special purple fruits create a symbolism that will bring tears, laughter and joy into so many hearts. The power of the pomegranates. Without Bee who has been sent away into another world for disregarding Zette’s rules, what happens at the end when we learn about Chandra and another missing child that needed to be saved will change the dynamics of many lives and maybe even bring a smile to the lips of grumpy Francis’s face. But, three explosions in taking lives and Francis’s home won, the terror attacks, as Hatty finds herself with these terrorists and learning the harsh truth about her father’s part in getting riches, documents and illegal money, how does she deal with remaining with the enemy and then watching her father die again?
Talking about the magical happenings you can tell that Frick might become different, but will he ever understand that his daughter, Ruthy is rare and wonderful and embrace her love? A simple diary notation brings back the past and going to Nazareth, 1918, says it all. What happened on the gold course, finding herself in Scotland, taking journeys that would change her life, Hatty Parker and Francis Frick will forever be bound. To save a child that is the quest and just how the changes came and what part Hatty plays and her link to the past is quite compelling. But Ulrich is loyal to only himself and his mother as poor Haddock, or Mr. Fish as Mrs. Ulrich calls him gets caught up in every scam, situation and tied to the FBI investigation until well maybe some magic will release him and allow him to fly away.
An ending that leads you to believe that there are new beginnings for some, different challenges for others and one special Ash that might learns the true meaning of love, loyalty, understanding and loss as he passes through the opening one last time and finds his way Parting in the Sky!
The Forgotten Child Trilogy that might have been drawn to a close by author Mark Sasse who takes each character to new levels, allows them to see themselves thought the eyes of others and then hopefully will learn the true meaning of love, hope and joy. Never doubt the power of the POMEGRANTE!
