Emily Eternal: W.G .Wheaton

Would you want to be able to read the minds and thoughts of people? What is you could get into the minds of millions, store their memories, know where they have been and be able to interface with their pasts and presents? Would you want this kind of power? What if you could stop wars, murders and are able to stop mass extinctions because if you are Emily, you are an artificial consciousness and you have an interface chip and even though some people can see you, you are really not there. You have created a human image that projects when it too. You can alter the way someone thinks and enter their minds to read their every thought past and present. Emily is what the author created an artificial consciousness that can only be senses when someone is wearing an interface chip. But things happen fast within the first part of this novel as we learn about the possible extinction of the sun, the extinction of mankind and the hunt for ways to create special humans that will eventually evolve and keep humanity alive. Dr. Nathan Wyman created her and she is tested to the limits at times and yet when we learn more she is a catalyst used for other purposes not yet revealed with the imminent demise of the sun, Emily as she is known is forced to try and save humanity with the help of her memories of chemical engineer Jason Hatta. Learning more about her resources and her capabilities Dr. Choksi allows her to enter her mind, read and absorb her life, thoughts and more from birth to the present. What an amazing journey she takes within the mind of this doctor and then she can envelope and enter the minds of millions more as she tries to find a way to save all mankind but at what expense. Not everyone is what they seem and at the bottom of all of this is something so sinister that Emily will have to face a moral and ethical dilemma before her final fate is sealed and determined. Emily is unique and even though there are many avenues that she eventually has to explore the unthinkable happens when the  I LAB, is attacked, people close to her are killed and things take on a sinister turn as she has to decide what to believe, what caused the explosion and the final words of her creator that will eventually rock her to the core. Those that were close to her really had another agenda but counting on Jason she gets to meet Mayra and the three begin to explore different ways to help humanity survive. When faced with new information, her operating system automatically looks for a way to sort and file the information coming in, whether by transforming it a into binary code, random 5 GL programming language or some other means. She manages to rise to every occasion and create new languages and maps across multiple dimensions until she has a record of every biomolecule within Dr. Choski, a complete digital record of her stored in her servers. This was extraordinary to encounter and take the journey along with Emily. But, we learn that there are two powerful people behind what we will eventually learn and the author shares the reasons why the sun is about to die and how the outer lawyer will now expand, creating geomagnetic storms and throwing off radiation and solar flares that will soon reach the earth.  He continues to explain the devastation that the earth will face and why deaths and mass starvation will be imminent. Emily wants answers when she hears the gunshots and learns the outcome of what has been put in place and the result of the iLAB and Nathan Wyman’s fate as she hears his final words but what was he trying to tell her?

The author creatively creates a novel around a group of technologists and scientists looking to save humanity and solutions are varied and not straightforward. Emily is what the author created as artificial consciousness. This is not the same as AI or artificial intelligence. She is only five years into the experiment when the sun as we learn is about to die and the Earth will dark. At times you forget that she is just a computer program as some can even see her in human form, she is  widely used and Wyman’s plan to save humans is not quite ethical and the end result when she learns more will keep readers wondering if this if fact, fiction or science fiction. How can she unlock the minds of people, find out their secrets and not use it to her advantage? Placing a chip into the human mind, using it to glean the information needed and often having when necessary, Emily enter the mind and taking over the actions and thoughts of someone else in order to achieve her goals. Imagine being able to manipulate the minds of so many and when the truth behind what is being done and what Wyman really had in mind leads Emily to learn that she is not the only Artificial consciousness that was created and she will have an adversary that wants to create a world with Selected people that are worthy of life and finding a way to enslave them or turn them into drones. What happens when there is no food, water, light, air, atmosphere and your only hope is to colonize in space but where and how? Feeding people, teaching them to fend for themselves, developing other worlds while many will not survive. Human faults are paramount, power and control are paramount as we meet Emily and Emily2 and learn just how each one will interface, what their goals are and when the time comes for takeoff you won’t believe what the author creates and the outcome. Emotions run high even though she is just a computer program and yet somehow, she seems real. She sleeps, eats and does the usual things we all do to prepare our days and end our days. She is on the edge; she needs to find a way to control what is happening, but the first scene lets you know that she is more as she tries to enter the mind of a troubled young girl hoping to help her overcome a traumatic event. What would happen if this kind of technology really existed and it gets into the wrong hands? Would someone be able to manipulate Emily? What happens when she meets her own twin or adversary what are her motives, actions and why do we feel when she and Jason start to act be human in some ways, that she has enveloped herself into society but in her own way.

When Emily, Jason and Mayra team up they learn more about Rana and what it is about him that might solve it all but how will they use what they learn before the other Emily takes the world into a different direction. Deciding on a course of action, realizing the betrayals, deceptions and having to corner someone close to the iLAB that knows more about what Wyman really had in mind, Emily and Jason have to take on the world you might say and find a way to save it all. Just how she comes up with a plan that make foil what someone else created you won’t believe. Imaginative, creative, diabolical, and daring as author M.S. Wheaton takes science into new dimensions, daring and unknown worlds in order to teach people the true meaning of loyalty, love, survival, hope and finding the true you. What will happen to Emily and who will enter the worlds she hopes will be new frontiers? What is the fate of EMILY ETERNAL? Can someone really live forever what is the final frontier of earth?
