The Russian: Ben Coes
Deaths are often orchestrated and well defined when they are programmed to send a message. Sometimes the message is vague and other times straightforward as a United States Senator and Governor are both killed within seconds of each other by assassins so well trained no one saw them coming. While the Senator was having dinner in an upscale restaurant and the Governor was giving a speech as Nick Blake wanted a run for the presidency, a snipper took him down within seconds and disappeared unnoticed. A woman pretended to fall and that the heel of her shoe broke but, she had a poisoned needle that would pierce the skin of the Senator and kill him within seconds after she vanished.
Senator John Patrick O’Flaherty, a Republican from New York State and Governor Nick Blake of Florida were killed two minutes apart. President J.P.Dellenbaugh gathered his staff : Adrian King the White House Chief of Staff, Bo Lovvorn , the FBI director, Hector Calibrisi the Director of the CIA , Josh Brubaker the president’s national security advisor and-several other staff members. The conversation was to the point and the realization that the assassins were Russian but what they did not know is that it was not the Russian Mob but the Odessa Mafia and someone at the top hidden orchestrating the entire event.
The families involved might be the ones who control a Russian mafia who hate each other but which went to these great lengths?
The president decided to ask a committee of Senators: The Senate Select Committee of Intelligence to give the CIA agency an exemption from various Posse Comitatus laws allowing it to operate on American soil. In other words, an exfoliation team. Arguments heard and the President stands firm. Cory Tilley his speechwriting head, would spearhead the speech he’d give to the press.
Billy Cosgrove and Robert Tacoma were the two chosen to be exfoliation team. But things get out of hand after we meet Cosgrove and he’s convinced to be part of the team : Tacoma works for an agency that pays millions for his services as we learn in the prologue, but he gives it all away. Why?
Bruno Darre founded the Darre group the investment firm started with 100 million dollars of his own money and added four billion the first year. The voices heard next will give you the chills and the name Kaiser will resonate as he wants the name of the man who’s the American mole giving them the information to take down Cosgrove and Tacoma. Senator Peter Leigh and Darre share some tense moments and harsh realities come to light and one senator learns the true meaning of fear .
Andrei Volkov is Darres right hand man. Both deadly and dangerous . Darres empire was vast and his control and size overpowering. Learning that the CIA was given permission to operate on US soil and their goal to kill the Russian Mafia changes the playing field. Bollocking was paranoid and instituted something quite dangerous but lucrative for some at the end of a workday. Rob was brought into the fold and Calibrisi wanted him back but no was the response until Cosgrove was taken down. Slokavich was hidden in his house along with Audra the other assassin. Both involved in killing the senator and governor.
Tacoma is fearless and impetus and won’t give an inch as his mode of persuasion is realistic and right out of the headlines. Slokavich does not stand a chance and the scene and final revelation is shocking.
Events are palpable as author Ben Coes takes readers inside the mind of killers who justify their actions as Darre and Volkov face off but the hidden force that controls them will change it all.
Rob finds himself in the crosshairs of the assassins as he enters an airport and the final body count you won’t believe.
Calibrisi, Polk, Katie Fox and other specialists plus Tacoma met with Rudy Lavern’s from Russia S.A.D. Explanations about who was behind the assassinations and possibly three major families blaming each other and the picture of what happened to Cosgrove. The revelations and end point gave them the name : Audra Buczko their target.
To complete the mission Rob would take on a new identity, change radically and infiltrate the Darre organization. Facts come out that Blake and O’Flahery were enemies of the Russian mob . Jenna Hartford worked on creating a program or design called it The Russian. straightforward but not. Target: Volkov : he’s Russian. Who told him to do what he did ? Who was the man who told the man to kill Cost: a Russian? Who is behind this and what about Alexi Malnikov and who is Kaiser? The threads come together but the final solution is frayed as Rob enters the world of those who want him dead. Challenging the fighter that has won as the ritual in this job is to watch and bet on a daily fight. Will Rob win the fight and if he does about fight Ing Volkov?
An ending that will challenge Rob, stretch his team to the limit and keep readers on the edge until the cliffhanger ending. Will Rob win the final battle? Which foes fall and which one might haunt him in the future. A novel that gives readers a touch of realism the incidents in this novel are not too far from what we often read about or hear on the news. A president who would not back down and Calibrisi who served his own form of justice sending his messages loud and clear . But in the end what is the final fate of The Russian?
Tacoma is an ex-Navy Seal and CIA Agent that I hope we hear more of. Hard core criminals and vicious organizations that want to take us down, but one man refuses to succumb. Tacoma proves that he is strong, but the ending keeps you wondering what he will take on next and if he will find his way back to where he wants to be.
