Creating and enacting justice does not always yield the results you require. Delving into the lives of those you feel are responsible for the pain inflicted on others is at the heart of this novel. Drex Easton is possessed-with taking down the man he thinks murdered his mother and many other women.
Meeting Jasper Ford and his wife Talia creates a disturbing feeling. He’s very elusive and cunning always making her type out a daily itinerary of her schedule monitoring her movements as if she’s a wanted criminal. Talia seems attracted to Drex as much as he is to her but there is someone else in the mix.
Things escalate in dangerous directions when Drex becomes obsessed with Talia. Pretending to be a writer, befriended her and Jasper knowing he’s a dangerous serial killer. No bodies were found until Marian Harris’s remains were found in a shipping crate and things spiral out of control for Drex and the killer. Realizing he needed a cover the killer decided to convince Talia to go on a vacation together only to create an argument to disappear. With his team of GIF and Mike , Drex can bug the killer’s residence unnoticed until it is. Elaine Conner was his next prey because only the rich were in his sights and their band accounts depleted after they disappeared. Eight women and 8different appearances and no one able to create a sketch of any kind until now or maybe not.
Special Agent Rudowski is out for Drex and even though his Detectives appear on his side they dislike the man, his methods and would prefer to be on the other team.
Questioning Talia was an experience in futility at times until she finally realized that she might be his next victim. Added in author Sandra Brown created a character so determined, so obsessed and driven he will stop at nothing to get his goal: Jasper but just where is he and will he still target Talia?
Obsessive compulsive and hardnosed breaking every rule in the book along with his loyal team Drex manages to pull off his own magic show right in front of Rudowski’s eyes.
Wanting to question Talia and place her in custody you will be astonished at what happens next. Talia proved at times to act dense but was that a façade or was she trying to come to terms with what she was learning about Jasper? Would she really come to terms with the horrors that he inflicted and the murders that would continue until he was stopped?
Lines are drawn and barriers are broken and Drex takes his career in hand and the decision he makes might cost him even more. How far will he go to avenge his mother’s death? What about Talia is he lying, playing him for a fool or genuinely has no clue where Jasper really is.
When they were concentrating in one area and reeling Detective Locke onto their team one of theirs was taken down and now Drex will stop at nothing to finish what he started years ago. Drex is bent on taking him down and breaking the law, going against what most would never do in the line of duty was his mantra. Lies, betrayals, deceptions and uncovering the truth behind his deceits the reader will learn just how smart, creative and highly charged his mind is when on a quest for justice.
Jasper changed identities again and bragging to himself about his last kill will he outfox Drex again?
When Gif was attacked and Rudowski wanted Drex arrested his plan to outsmart him was priceless. Realizing Talia was in danger and identifying the one thing the killer took from each victim a phone call would change the direction of the investigation and Rudowski would learn just what happens when you try to outfox Drex.
Gif and Mike were loyal to him to more than a fault but when you learn the truth behind who Drex really is and the history of his youth, the oath he made to his father before he died, the reader will decide whether his actions were justified or was Rudowski right in wanting to take him down or was it revenge?
A reporter that fell prey to one of Drex manipulations and a Special Agent who didn’t care for the truth and refused to comprehend that Jasper was the killer of so many women and two more paid the price for his ineptness.
The final scenes were tense and the manipulation outstanding as the hidden truths and lies that were told might put him away for a long time but first he has to face off with a diabolical killer who taunted him and baited him but which one will win?
How far will someone go to avenge a death? What falsehoods and dramatic moves will some orchestrate to reach his final goals?
Drex Easton like Jasper Ford invented himself, created the person he wanted everyone to see and in the end which one will win, or will both lose? The decision lies in the hands of the judge: Guilty or Not guilty or something else?
Author Sandra Brown created Drex Easton as strong force m, loyal friend, creative and inventive investigator and an imposing figure that if you’re wise you won’t try or dare to Outfox.
