The Dog on the Acropolis

Take a trip back in time and see history in the making as you enter Greece in the past and renter in the present . The wonders are breathtaking and you will see the magnificence of the Parthenon as its creator and his stonecutters begin the process of building it . In the present you will experience its beauty and grandeur as two families take center stage each one with their own stories to tell and at the heart we meet Draco in the present and Daria in the past . Two precious dogs linked together in a special way as the families that they are linked to take you into their lives as you get to know the Dog on-the acropolis.

Meeting the families that are attached to both dogs in the present Akil and his wife Matia and in the past Adelino and his wife Diana. Both women apprehensive at first about having Draco snd Daria close to their husbands and sons. Jason in the present and Tiro in the past as both families seem to be living parallel lives .

Jason at first seems to be headed on a downward slope whereas Tiro was more respectful and yet both wind up in different yet difficult situations when one father is seriously injured and the second needs help to run his store. A story about trust, family loyalty, hope , love and two dogs who made such an important impact on the lives of so many.

Draco did not want to be confined at night and during the day he was the guide that helped people find their way on the Acropolis. He was a stray dog yet attached to Akil,Jason and later in her own way Maria. Bonding takes time in both time periods and at night you will find Draco sleeping climbing the hill and having dreams that take him back thousands of years into the past when the Parthenon was just a dream and was in the stages of being built. Daria experiences these dreams and plans as Adelino and Tiro help that come about.

Throughout the story we see the changes in both Jason and Tiro as Jason takes on the responsibility of helping his father at his place of business, caring for Draco and becoming a fine young man. In the past Adelino suffers a serious injury causing Draco to sense it and react emotionally in the present causing alarm. Daria is now attached to Adelino and Diana begins to accept him more as Tiro now has to take over the job of making money and working in the same place as his father or they will lose it all . Bonds form and then someone takes Daria and although he is not to move or go out, Adelino and Tiro are on a quest to find him but what they endured is hard but in the end they prove their loyalty and dedication to this dog.

In the present we get to know Cynarra whose parents own a flowery shop and she too has to help out plus pursue her goals at night in school. Things take on many directions in both time periods and when Akil snd his friend Alexander receive reports about their health both will have to find a way to create a better way of life before it’s too late but just what they do will smiles to you face , tears of joy and allow Draco to benefit fit too.

In the past Daria needs care and Adelino depends more on Tiro and each time Daria disappears the tension rises and the author creates suspense making you hope for a mutating both time periods.

Things take on an unusual turn when Cynarra meets Alex, Alexander’s son and you wonder if that will bond her more to staying at home or will she go somewhere else after getting her doctorate at Cambridge?

When Draco is injured we see another side of Maria who tends to his injuries each time. Diana in the past realizes the bond that Adelino has with Daria as he too whether some storms as families bond even more, but Tiro finds himself in trouble. When Diana wants to say a prayer and give thanks to Athena the end result places two families in danger. Tiro tells a friend about what they did and what follows shows what happens when s friend betrays your trust. Author Mark Tedesco creates a solo that involved talking, support and explaining the consequences of actions but the discussion was expertly handled with patience and compassion. Tiro was afraid and losing his job would destroy his family and Diana proves that she’s on his side.

Words are powerful weapons when used wisely as we learn throughout the novel. But, tragedy strikes and the unexpected happens-and one families life will be altered and a decision has to be made. Draco is an important member of Akil’s family and all decisions are made for the most part jointly. The ending just might bring a new beginning but the sadness will touch the reader but what Akil does will endear you to him. Daria is held close but in the present Draco seems to have a strong connection to the events in the past.

The ending is sad but will another bring joy to Akil and his family as the final scene will make you wonder what is next for Akil, Jason and ? In the past we learn so much about the Parthenon and in the present it’s history well as something unique that Cynarra shares. Yo learn more take the trip in alternating time lines and join Draco on his jaunts yo help people find their way on the Acropolis while Daria helps s family heal in many other ways. Heartfelt, heartwarming and told with love and heart for two families and two precious dogs it’s a great book for people of every age and for young people to learn about responsibility and family love.
