Dead is Dead: John Lansing

Love can often blindside you and cloud your thinking. At times people do rash things when someone takes someone or something they feel belongs to them. Within this novel you will learn the meanings of revenge, possession, abuse and power. Power so deadly and money that could fund an entire national debt as we meet three dangerous brothers into drugs, money laundering and having an upfront retail business so lucrative you wonder why they decided to become close to drug cartels and chance the fallout of the biggest and most powerful one.

Some families gather for dinner, lunch, family events while this focuses on murder, drug deals, weapons and anything that yields money . This family will take action and swift action against the enemy and remorse does not come into play.

Meet Toby Dirk armed, headstrong and deadly. Toby is about to avenge a wrong at least in his way of thinking. As he orchestrates what he thinks is a perfect murder of Tomas Vegas another is caught in the crossfire. Juan Sanchez was not his target but someone close to him would be the innocent victim. The final outcome as Toby states: Dead is Dead no great beyond and no nothing at least for Vegas . A drug dealer, connected to a powerful cartel each player in this novel is controlled and owned by someone higher up and throughout the novel the reader gets a first hand education about drug protocols and the chain of command.

Jack Bertolino was hired to protect Susan Blake snd aa a technical advisor on her movie set. He is a private investigator and his background as a former police detective will help when information is needed. Susan is being stalked and her stalker is threatening her but she won’t tell Jack his identity and placed her and him in dangerous situations. Added in he enlists his favorite technical guy Cruz Feinberg to work his magic when phone records, identifications and other technical issues need to be addressed. Maria Sanchez was killed by Toby Dirk when a stray bullet took her life and Cruz is telling Jack about the story airing and her death. Things get tense and this is just the tip of many dangerous icebergs as Jack become embroiled in not only Susan’s world of money, power and deception but the deadly world of Mexican Cartels. Added in Detective Nick Aprea is a great character who comes to Jack’s aid and shares information that enlightens him about the Dirk brothers. Terrence is the oldest and seems to run the retail business and has managed to get close to Susan. Sean does the books and the planning while Toby tries to keep things on a even keel planning the murders and handling other financial ends. Each one keeps the others informed and yet Terrence wonders about the Vegas murder knowing that Vegas was seeing Eva Perez the object of both Vegas and Toby’s affection and Vegas hates losing. Eva paid a heavy price for her choice and her self confidence has suffered and her fears are real never feeling assured of her future and safe.

Jack gets too close to Susan who at times is threatened and forces him and Cruz and Nick at times to come to her rescue at all hours of the night.

Terrence, Toby snd Sean meanwhile are about to take down a drug shipment that was targeted for them but told it was a no go. Never cross these guys as someone learns the hard way. Ricky never saw it coming added in the doctor that operated on Eva would pay the ultimate price too.

Deception, betrayal, lies and greed dare some of the issues author John Lansing brings yo light in this highly charged and electrifying novel filled with suspense, unexpected twists and tons of curve balls.

Jack brings in his son Chris and his ex-wife Jeannie whose boyfriend interferes with his son’s goals and ambitions creating human interest and another dimension to this plot.

Drugs are high jacked and murders followed as the Sinaloa cartel takes out the Lennox boys thinking they are responsible. But an eyewitness just might bring one brother into the forefront for two murders.

Thinking that they will skate free they realize that Jack is on to them and it’s time to rid of lose ends.

As Jack is once again working or dealing with Detective Tomlinson and Gallina who arrested the person framed for the Vegas Murder, they would soon learn that evidence is not always solid or real and not paying to Jack’s theories costly.

Eva and Toby are tight and several murders someone things will stay under the water but bodies rise, lives are taken and questions are answered and lawyers are hired. Jack requested help from his former girlfriend and DDA and things take on a deadly turn as Jack becomes a victim of these dangerous killers but will he survive and will his memory be impaired? Added in when all of the evidence is collected someone’s is framed for the death of the doctor and once again a jail cell is deadly and bribes are not uncommon.

An ending that is powerful and one man’s career and life on the line as Jack has to face off with the stalker, takedown the Dirks and free Susan of her fears and finally end the reign of Dead is Dead according to the Dirks.

Jack is a strong character with a tough personality and Nick and Cruz add to the authenticity of the plot. Dead is Dead will keep you ready for more Jack Berlotino. When love blindsides you and life betrays your hopes for the future not only Jack but others will learn the dangers of corruption, deception, lies , greed and sadly unrequited love.
