Novus Diem: Tom Walsh

  • Can you change the universe by sending a virus that would target specific types of component equipment? Sending the virus back in time and having it land in another dimension. It did nothing to the original timeline. Trying to avert a nuclear annihilation the problem facing the person who created this virus is she missed her ideal target for the virus and as she has been taken into custody after we all witnessed what she did , we learn how this one event triggered changes in her timeline. The virus went back in time but Dr.Dawne Michaels who initiated this event remained in present day. The eerie part is that the memories in her head, her personal experiences, and the person she is in the present is the Dawne Michaels from her original parallel timeline. Imagine friends she has 48 hours before no longer exist. Her best friend that we met at the start, Anna, from Iran, no longer exists. The world changed although she saved our present world here is in pieces and the fallout is hers to bear. Interrogating her and bringing this to light is the Chief chronologist who runs a team of researchers who investigate abnormalities in the space time continuum. Donovan Nutting is this man and his interaction and style of questioning is filled with humor, sarcasm and distinct purpose.

Called to the White House he’s asked to explain his theories and job and allows readers to learn about our universe which is defined by four elements z: matter, energy, space and time. Explaining the first three brings him to time and his belief that Dawne broke that barrier in a way no one ever imagined . The people in the room along with the President learn that they will be talking about parallel universes, entanglement theory and quantum teleportation.

She was not considered disloyal but a well-qualified scientist and who happened to be researching the spade time continuum when the world in her original time dimension saw the beginning of a nuclear war in the Middle East. Her research involved sending computer code and messages via laser between satellites.

It started with Iran and Israel holding Iran responsible for a dirty bomb and there would be retaliation. Protesters yelling Death to Israel and then Dawne working for USCYBERCOM initiated and created what has just need described. Somewhere between the sun and earth the laser pulse she sent evaporated and her world turned dark. Her boss Bill Crittendon felt she was a potential national security problem and that’s when everyone was lined up to interrogate her. How do you live in parallel time frames?

Dawne was under lock and key and different branches of government including the President had to decide her fate. Timelines were changed, her perceptions differed as she went back to her original one, saw her best friend, Annie but was it real?

Events in history were changed, somehow someone might avert an accident or death and others might meet different fates as what she did creates much speculation.

Added in Becca Sterling Director of UnitF6 the special collection service of NSA. She plays an integral part in discussions about where Dawne might wind up, the decisions made and the types of strategies to allow DARPA to keep her under their control since the generals and military have their own ideas for her in the future. Can or will she ever be free again?

The military wants to take hold of her, and the President wants it with DARPA and R&D. The General has her computer and files taken and Nutting warned Dawne if the imminent change in her status .

Things take a different turn and Dawne reveals information about to Nutting about himself that he’d rather have kept quiet and the truths about General Stanwick I in her other timeline leads Nutting to request help from his boss. Where will they go and what about these two timelines and why are the events so different and damaging? Which one does she want to be in and why?

Parallel universes and Dawne and Nutting manage to spring her from her cell, steal a police car, take down the cop and head to an Indian Reservation with someone he calls Granny and has the power to hopefully help her but she has to go back and find more information about the real timeline and here’s where Annie comes into play but which events are real and how long will she stay in the hospital and who will she leave behind if she goes to the other timeline?

Things get odd when she’s back in the original timeline and Annie is there to help her uncover the information in Stanwick who in the present timeline is in prison and now she and Annie must trace the source that put him there. Lies, corruption, power, greed and betrayals as Stanwick wants to take her down in the new timeline but her abilities to stay put will be tested over and over again as author Tom Walsh created a plot that some might think is not so farfetched that it could become a reality in the future. Would you want to live-in two-time periods and meet the same people but under different circumstances? You might know them or not in both and yet how would you keep it straight, not tell anyone and literally live two lives?

When Annie meets Nutting in the original timeline the interaction is quite different than what Dawne has with him in the alternate timeline. But, Dawne returns to her in the present and yet she is still somewhere in between as the General tries to recreate what she did before this entire time travel and timeline shifted and remember there is a nuclear war in one of the worlds somewhere still going on. As Nutting and his boss hope to convince the President about the truth concerning Stanwick in the past and then in the present and the fact that he is serving time in Leavenworth, will he realize he is just as corrupt in his timeline? Where will it all wind up? What will the final frontier be? Author Tom Walsh created a strong and interesting character in Dawne Michaels filled with spunk, tenacity, survival skills, humor and ho holds barred attitude equally to that of Donovan.

Both Dawne and Donavan hope that the President will heed their thoughts and words as one man’s deception, hope for power and more could take down more than just the duel timelines . But not everything turns out right and a life is taken, and others injured as author Tom Walsh enlightens is about certain Native American customs and Dawne struggles with her losses in both timelines and the final reveal will shock readers and warm your hearts in an unusual way. Will she remain with Nutting or Dr. Nutting? What about Annie gone for good or will she return as everyone learns more in the next set of challenges in Post Diem!
