The Last Romanov

The Last Romanov

Some people are hired to do an honest days work and others take on jobs for money or illegal gain. Katerina Mills works for MJM to do jobs that anyone that takes a minute to reflect on what is expected would definitely decline but not her. Bold and daring and yet at times blindsided by her own greed or lack of awareness Kat often falls prey to those that want her you might say eliminated along with her mother, Linda.

Kat is involved with many handlers and each one expects her to comply with their demands. Thomas Gallagher is deadly and dangerous and with Lisa who’s tied to him he expects Kat will be in his sights but got now she’s managed to stay in the wind and when Alexander Winter finally has her in his grip things take a different turn but for how long.

Learning more about her she reveals to Winter about John Reynolds her first client who comes into play regarding another murder and the murders of Felicia Reynolds his wife and Will Temple her lover. Cheryl Penn was another victim he killed in order to blindside the police in the investigation. Both were socialites and Temple showed up asking Kat about a production company called Random Girl Films. Added in Kat went to get money from the safety deposit box and got attacked by Reynolds who took quite a bit of it and demanded that Kat work for him. Then we meet the latest client Zilinsky who claims to be a descendant and of Alexei Nikolavich, Tsarevich of Russia and he wants his rightful place on the throne. He claims to be the Last Romanov and it’s his birthright.

Things spiral out of control when Daniel Clay comes into the picture and wants to work with both Winter and Kat but something about him sends off red flags and Kat might be caught between two dangerous men and snared into a deadly web of lies and deception. Wanting to work with Winter and Winter mentoring her regarding learning more about

Things take so many directions as we get to know Daniel and his mates hoping that they will use Winter to get the painting that he has targeted to steal. Plus Viktor Mikhailovich who’s involved with giving Kat what the Russian wants and then coming back to Winter dealing with her safety. The police question Reynolds and realize he’s good for the two murders and Temple’s too but to prove it.

Kat needs answers and Lisa is working with Gallagher to get her in his grip by providing offshore accounts for her payments and tracking her movements reeling her in. But Winter keeps her in his sight and then Kat reminds readers of how deadly she can be when wanting to know information the threats come easy to her.

Her primary goal is to have enough money to disappear with her mother and with her Uncle Sergei and a close ally named Moose things fall in place but for how long?

Risks are taken and blindsides are frequent as Kat needs to learn many more lessons dealing with trust, lies, deception and betrayal. She is headstrong, impetus and makes rash moves and decisions endangering herself and others. But, in the end will Winter get the Monet, will she uncover the truth about the Last Romanov and will justice prevail in any way shape or form?

The truth and the realization when Kat does her research and what is at stake are treasures namely the Crown Jewels and seven missing Faberge eggs. Then we meet Angel who will become her enforcer and guard when doing her job but Gallagher, Reynolds and just about everyone wants something or controlling Kat .

Detective Ryan Kellan and Detective Walter Lashiver questioned Reynolds and retired Detective Green who is under the thumb of Reynolds whose being questioned about the three murders. Things take on a difficult turn questions answered, evidence that they claim the killer might have but the results are not what you expect as everyone becomes defensive.

Author Jill Rosenblatt sets the final stage for each outcome as we find out just what Clay has in mind, whether Winter comes out ahead, will Kat be taken by Gallagher Or Reynolds or remain a pawn in her own web of deception?

Many associates, many secondary characters and some that remain secretive and hidden as Uncle Sergei is a bit of a hidden puzzle and Lisa can nit be trusted and what about Winter what is his real goal besides stealing the Monet, learning the art expert was taken and hoping to be a knight in shining armor but will it all work out?

The ending leaves lose ends as the author leaves us wondering if Kat will go back to Ryan her Detective boyfriend, what about her mother’s safety, who will she enlist next to take down an enemy, what about the museum job and what paths will be taken next when author Jill Rosenblatt brings Kat back as the fixer one more time in the next installment called The Good Criminal hoping to close up loose ends, allow her to find her true place and with whom as Kat continues to battle her own fears, demons and rivals but will she confirm the identity of the Last Romanov and be sure that it’s true?

  1. I read the first book in this series and loved it. It looks like I need to binge read before the next book comes out.
