Treason : Stuart Woods
Our country is often riddled with some who turn traitor and sneak secrets to agents from foreign countries. What happens when Holly Barker, the current Secretary if State learns that there is a mole in her mist and time is of the essence to find out who it might be.
Stone Barrington is watching a recorded show when a call comes in from the director of the CIA regarding this matter. Holly Barker is the current Secretary of State and her call to Stone sets a chain of events leading to espionage and murder. What happens when the possible mole is a higher ranking official hiding in front of you in plain sight?
A phone call from someone named Callie and Stone acquired a new plane and of course a temporary love interest until she was off again to sell another one but at a dinner party where the guests were quite diversified, a Russian oligarchy and an American who seemed financially made because of this man created an interesting mix at a dinner given by Marcel de Bois. Things get interesting and Peter Grant provides sone intrigue yet no one really knows what he does . His short bio is shared on page 72 as Callie enlightened Stone.
Tessa Martindale would divert his attention from Callie at this dinner and although she was a Peter Grant’s date it did not deter him from making his move. She proved useful in the bedroom and in helping him gather information about different people. Her memory and her way of accurately recording information made her a valuable resource at least for the short time she was available. Lance Cabot the Director of the CIA provided special scrambled phone calls asking Stone to fill his obligations in his role as his advisor and deputy director.
Dino and Viv Bachetti join the dinner and things get heated up as Holly learns the truth about who’s the mole in her own department and the link to several powerful Russian spies comes front and center. Just who is Dimitri Kronsky and who is Yevgeny Chekhov and why are they always wherever Stone seems to be and at the last dinner meeting Vanessa Baker and her mom, Betty what follows is a shock to Stone the morning following having Vanessa as his houseguest.
Treason has many meanings and although it means betraying your country it also lies within the definition of betraying someone or something.
Imagine finding a body in his bathroom and calling for the ME and the police thinking his date was dead. Poison was the weapon and the shock when the morgue calls to say Vanessa is alive but will she survive? A long to go and investigations needed as Stone , Lance, Dino and Holly are all hoping to learn more about why anyone would want Vanessa out of the way and her mother’s relationship with Chekhov. Things spiral in so many directions and Grant has a tense lunch with Stone and a meeting to follow that does not happened as Grant was killed but why?
Looking closer at Betty Baker snd her relationship with her daughter, Vanessa reveals information that surprises Stone and hires him to handle her financial affairs, selling an apartment and dealing the what Peter left her in his will. But, Vanessa does not trust her mother locations change, hers is to remain hidden and Stone has to provide done protection for her.
A light night stealth operation where Lance and Stone place their lives on the line, the end result leaves readers wondering if there’s going to be a sequel as a takedown occurs, a shocking ending leaves you wondering if the mole was found, where the Russians wind up and just who are the players in a deadly game of Treason.
