Knife’s Edge: A must read

Knife’s Edge: Eliot Parker

An opening scene that sets the dramatic stage for what will shake up the town of Charleston, West Virginia. A drug Six cartel is infiltrated and is continuing its goal to further its operations. A fund raiser at the city’s cancer center states out with all the proper dignitaries taking the spotlight but something would turn it tragic. Right in front of everyone a car crashes inside the room, a body is found behind the steering wheel and what’s uncovered leads us back to the first scene where someone is unsuspecting and killed. Marvin Null is the victim and was shot in the head. Jacob Collier was the man who crashed his car into the center and was also shot in the head and evidence proves that something else caused him to crash the car even after he was shot. A car that was on loan from Bert Wolfe and Collier basically a vagabond and with a license that was expired. Was he set up as a driver for a dead body because Sarah Gilmore was found dead in the trunk of his car? Things get hot when Sergeant Ronan McCullough comes on the scene and realizes that Ty his boyfriend is there and needs to help save the lives of the injured. Manic sets in but with his guidance and strength he manages to get it together but for how long.
As the paramedics come Ronan is called out and what he sees sets the plot in a different motion and now the murders become personal as Sarah was an ER nurse working alongside Ty. But during it all a powerful lawyer, Braxton Campbell corners Ronan and wants his ending for Governor even before things get hit. The Clay Center is the site of this attack and what’s revealed by the guard as Ronan takes a closer look at Collier’s bod confirms he was shot in the head. An officer calls Ronan again and Ty witness the horrific site of the mutilated body of Sarah Gilmore. The author graphically describes her wounds on page 29 for those do not front of heart. Eric Bonamico is Ronan’s partner and the tension that develops between them and their divided loyalties at times hamper their partnership and solving the case. Captain Ashby plays by the book, but his egotistical Chief of Detectives is not as savvy as he would think, and evidence is often there but he discounts the facts and coming against Ronan who’s much smarter creates some interesting conflicts and scenes. A cadaver spasm explains how Collier manages to crash after he’s dead. It’s a violent death under extreme physical circumstances. The driver as Ronan explains after speaking with the ME learns he was shot before the crash. Not sure what triggered the spasm, but she states intense emotion can trigger such a reaction. Added in Sarah Gilmore’s body wound up in the trunk of the Hummer but how? Why?

Unfortunately, Sean Carter would be handed the case as Chief of Detectives and this is where tempers flare, rules are brokenness loyalties questioned. Behind this as was explained before the crash is a company named BTech which Sarah worked and was developing a unique and faster method of testing blood and other results after an accident,DUI or needed for a police investigation. Krok is the slang for the drug Desomorphine, a synthetic opioid. When injected intravenously, scaly, green sores develop near the injection site. The deadly mixture of codeine and hydrochloride acid produces such severe tissue damage causing injury to veins in the body. It’s cheap, addictive and people will pay anything for it and poorer ones will do anything to get money to buy it. Leading us back to the fact that 6 months earlier a drug syndicate from Michigan brought this drug to Charleston and pushed it on the community focusing on drug addicts and college students. But it gets more personal when Ronan’s nephew and his girlfriend who asks for a lawyer to represent her turn up at the police station as she claims to have seen something related to the person who crashed into the center. Peter Linville who did the testing from the thugs arrested at the scene of Marvin’s murder reveals something odd about the results. The interview is witnessed by Ronan not allowed in as his partner and Carter are running this. Added in Ronan tells how he met Dr. Richard Metzger at the center before the excitement happened and from here on in you want to pay close attention to the facts, the lies, the cover ups and the motives behind the murders and why BTech was now going to handle all blood test results and other tests for the police department Charleston Mercy and just where is this lab located?
The revelations that Linville reveals is starting, and his lab would no longer be needed, and money would not be given to hire more technicians helping to handle the backlog of work. Sarah was important to this lab and their work.
Ty is great with people but after his shift he decides to do something against protocol and becomes involved in the scene of an attack, a murder and what appears to be an assaulting Dr. Metzger leaving him to try and help the guard, injured and praying for a way out and help. The scene is tense and the outcome frustrating for Ty who had no idea what happened to Athens doctor and via asked to be questioned by the police. Lies are told and Nick, Ronan’s nephew cabs his girlfriend Ashley are at the heart of part of the investigation but Ronan feels her account is false and then Ty is questioned and things get strained between him and his partner, him and Nick and Ty.
Sarah is Ashley’s aunt and from this point on things get even more highly charged as Ronan questions Nick about his relationship with her, Sarah’s brother Aiden shows up asking to clean out her locker at the hospital and then when looking into his stolen car you won’t believe the link to the case sending Ronan back to square one. Added in the power behind this BTech lab decides that Metzger is a risk and the bodies are piling up but you won’t believe who’s behind it all and the deceptions and betrayals are just piling up as the author takes readers and Ronan down some dark and dangerous paths.

Then someone is killed in cold blood just as Ronan and this person enters and finds the secret behind BTech and what is stored in the bins you won’t believe what’s there but who is after them and who is behind it all. The edge of a knife is deadly, and Ronan is about to meet the ultimate betrayal and might be victim to a dangerous killer’s knife.
An ending that places Ronan in the hands of a deadly killer will anyone hear his screams, or will he be next? Someone hiding in plain sight manipulated him, was behind part of what happened to Sarah, Sean, Marvin and even Jacob as the author ties it together but not completely because this ending is just the beginning as Ronan makes a major decision something will take him in a different direction as the last page leaves us wondering what did he see and what’s next?
A killer so dangerous and deadly and a link to one of the deaths that will give you the chills as everyone needs to beware of the dangers of a KNIFE’S EDGE! Heart stopping, pulsating and hardboiled plot and Sergeant should be upped to someone higher. The final reveal and what were behind BTECH you will not believe but the next time you need a blood test you might want a second or third opinion after getting the results.
