The Order
The intricacies of Catholic Church , the history behind who killed Jesus, where and when is the central theme of The Order. A book so rare that the Pontiff found and was reading in his study would hold the key to an event in history that would destroy many in the present. The Pope died and the Archbishop Albanese had his body moved to his quarters and Nikolas Jansen, of the Swiss Guard appointed to watch over him even before his death. Allowing someone to enter his study and not questioning why, he quickly tore a page out of a valuable book that would set off a chain of events leading to why the Pope died, who was behind his death and a group called the Order of St. Helena so corrupt and so dangerous leading all the back to its origins during the Second World War and Hitler. Steeped in Jewish and Catholic history and the research into the Gospels, the death of Jesus and the purpose of the Order and their goals to elect a new Pope they can control brings us to why Archbishop Luigi Donati requests a meeting with him to uncover the truth behind the murder of the Pope and why.
A vacation for the first in a while with his family, Gabriel becomes embroiled in a conspiracy that leads across nations, past history and this art restorer and Israeli assassin is now the Chief of the Office and using his position and contacts he is able to uncover the truth behind the death of the Pope and more.
Within one-year Nikolas was working as part of the Swiss guard and was able to observe those coming and going from the Apostolic Palace. The senior princes of the Church: Gaubert, the secretary of State: Albanese the keeper of the archives, Navarro the keeper of the faith itself. But the Vatican official her admired the most was not wearing the red hat it was the Holy Father’s private secretary: Archbishop Luigi Donati. But Father Markus Graf played another role as the Pontifical Council for Culture he had an ulterior motive. More in-depth was the relationship between Bishop Hans Richter and Father Graf. Things get tense when Gabriel agrees to investigate the death of the pontiff and it leads to why Pope Paul VII was killed and a letter that he wrote just before his death that was intended for Gabriel and is now missing.
The Holy Father entered the Vatican archives late at night because he had trouble sleeping and wanted something to read. Donati things he might have found something that someone would kill to keep hidden and it was up to Gabriel to find out exactly what. When he died, Albanese wanted something to remember him by and that was a book. When trying to uncover what the book was he comes in contact with Father Joseph who seems to be invisible and who explains that the Pontiff was reading a book that deals with the Gospels of Pilate and the truth behind the death of Jesus and who was responsible for it and why.
While he is investigating Chiara is trying to join him when visiting certain contacts but in the long run Gabriel finds himself embroiled so deep that he has to find his way back to Israel, have his cabinet meet and the skills that they have far surpass anything that any other covert agency has. Just being able to hack into the computer files, text messages and phone records and bank records of the one man responsible for the money that the members of the order receives is mind boggling and learning how much each of the 116 members that would participate in the conclave got plus one more that shocked Gabriel will stun readers
The letter does not identify the book that the Pope found. The copy contained in the Secret Archives as thought to be the last but was it. The Holy Father said it was authentic is that why he was killed? He wanted Gabriel to have the book and treat the material with care. . it needed to be unveiled carefully because some might think it was a hoax.

The Holy Father thought it was authentic. He wanted Gabriel to have the book and treat the material with utmost sensitivity. It needed to be unveiled carefully managed because it might be deemed a hoax.
Who was the actual killer and when they reconstructed the timeline, we learn that Albanese arrived at 9:30 , the Holy Father was already dead? He removed the book from the papal study. Came back to the papal apartments at ten and carried the Holy Father’s body into his bedroom. The letter to Gabriel was not there. Nikolas Jansen has it in his pocket feeling guilty about letting the killer in the papal apartments. He knew the killer and it was someone he trusted. The Order of St. Helena was behind it. We learn about its history and Father Schiller and his role. Then those in the present starting with Bishop Richter and the scheme that was created to choose a Pope that would be controlled by the Order. Added in we learn the man behind the Order is Jonas Wolf and how they used people that needed help promising them visas, homes and more for money, their wealth and never coming through these people winding up in the camps or worse during the war. Millions of dollars were collected by them and a man named Estermann oversaw dispersing .
Nikolas was afraid the Guard would find him, so he did not go home. Several called his ex-girlfriend to find him. The letter which his ex-girlfriend got, and Gabriel was reading stated that The Order was evil. The letter was unfinished and did not identify the book. But with the aid of the members of the Office he would learn a lot. A trip into the secret archives helped to learn that the book had to do with the Gospel according to Pontius Pilate. With chapter 24 the history is revealed. Added in chapter 25 we learn about the links to the camps, the death of so many Jews and how history might have unfolded differently if the Church had not declared war on the Jews I the Gospels. They had to find the Gospel of Pilate but there are forces that would do anything to stop them.
The primary motivation had to be the conclave and the top winner for Pope they thought would be Cardinal Franz von Emmerich. Not on anyone’s list except the most powerful The Order of St. Helena.
Plans to stop what was started and kidnapping the one person that was imperative to the conclave and understanding the monetary issues involved can what the Order started, and its elaborate plan be stopped? What about the book that they Pope wanted Gabriel to have and was it authentic? When all the pieces finally fit and Donati faces off with them just who will emerge as the new Pontiff and let us not forget his friendship with Veronica will that stand in the way of his vows? An ending that is shocking and a revelation about the book even more as author Daniel Silva takes us back in time to understand the gravity of the situations and the dangers of groups like the Order hindering the Church. Gabriel fought hard in this one and his family never had the proposed vacation, but the ending changed it all, but will he truly ever retire?
