Kristy Wise was a victim of rape and the young man; Joe Harlan Jr. had a devious defense attorney and he was acquitted of the crime. Kristy was and has never been the same. Liam was a young boy who texted while driving and took the life of a young girl. Deb Wise was approached by his mom, and his life support was shut off by someone entering his room and never caught.

Liz is Liam’s mother and is determined to learn more about Susie and Roy and wonders just how they come into play with her son’s death. She has been doing research on both, learned a lot and even hired someone to help fill in the blanks. With Detective Garza in her corner and looking into her son’s death and others, maybe she might finally get closure.
Camilla Cruise was killed by Liam Berato. Someone was hiding the truth and Liam was killed in his hospital room. . Kristy and Bethany were doing research on Liz, Susie, Roy trying to put the pieces together of the murders.
Eddie Garza hired Spencer Shaw to help investigate more about Joe Harlan Jr. deaths, and what he comes up with changes a lot about what happened to Liam. Did Deb WIse killed Liam as revenge killing Camilla Cruise. Then things get more tense when Roy plans a 2-week vacation for him and Susie, but his partner David is brutally beaten by someone hired by the Senator. for information about Roy that he does not remember giving up. How can he warn Roy? The murderers are now the hunted. Can you deeply commit the perfect murder?
Tom Wise finds out that Deb is dead shot in the head in her car at the animal shelter in the middle of the night. He cannot handle her death and buries himself in beer, liquor, and pity. Kristy is now left with dealing with her father but three letters that her mother wrote before she died; one to her father, one to her and the last to Susie would change it all. What was she hiding and what did she and Susie have that was a secret?
Kristy learns more about her father, Susie when she acts Detective Art Travers to meet with her at a local coffee shop. Hoping to learn more about her mother’s death he divulges nothing, claims he just wants to help and then when she mentions Roy Cruise you can tell he flinches. Roy seemed to be out of town whenever a murder took place. Where was Susie? What was his goal and who was his next victim as we learn his plans for Spain and the research, he did into finding different places for him and Susie to visit?
Different threads come unraveled as Roy confronts his wife about Joan and spills that Deb killed Liam as revenge for Liam killing their daughter.
Kristy makes her own list of who she will take care of and Frank Stern is at the top as well as Joe Harlan, Roy, and Susie.
The anger in so many and the fierceness and determination of their motives for revenge are crafted and described brilliantly by the author. The tension filled scenes, the emotional rises and falls adds to the suspense and unknown that follows. Every voice is heard individually and alone as the person plans his/ her strategy to take down a foe.
Kristy meets with Liz and then Joe Harlan meets with her too both trying to find out different information. Kristy senses something about Liz and all she claims is that she wants to learn who killed her son? But, what about her connection to what happened to Camilla? Who really killed Liam and who killed Deb?
Then Tom Wise is next victim and Kristy learns the truth about both parents and who killed Harlan and the result of what was left for his father. Harlan Sr. Is up to his neck in murder too as he arranged for the death of Tom Wise, but the contact that he hired is relentless, revengeful and will not stop until he kills everyone that was ordered.
Roy and Susie set the trap for another politician and even though it took planning and several days in the water somehow Roy succeeded in killing this man.
Liz Bareto and the Senator were getting close, Kristy reached out to her many times but in the end who would become the next victim and lets flashback to Billy Applegate who was traumatized by someone in the middle of the night while going to sleep. Then growing up he was not exactly the best son and student and his mother seemed to justify his actions later on at age 19 his father dies and now he has to deal with taking care of his mother but who exactly is he now? His job with the paper closed but going to college was it next? Just where does he fit into the rest of the story and why?
Who had something special for the Senator and how was he going to make America great? Things come around in a circle as Slipknot comes face to face with Roy and Susie and intends on inflicting more than just pain as the truth behind Kristy’s rape and who else was involved comes out. Truths, lies, betrayals and deceptions come to light but who will remain alive at the end and who will be the final death when the words deeds are done, revenge is enacted and all the victims learn the meaning of AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.
The therapist enlightens us in the epilogue about how Billy comes into this and why Getz had to be taken down. Lives were lost, no remorse or arrests of any of the killers some dead and some still hoping to take more revenge. Joe Harlan is still out there, Liz has yet to pay for her deeds and as the next chapter A Life For Life begins here the words of the therapist and take the final journeys with these hardnosed, dangerous and well crafted killers.

I have this series waiting for me on my Kindle after seeing nothing but rave reviews for it. And because of that, this sounds like the kind of series that should be binged read.
