Personalities clash and goals might vary but the joining of these two minds and goals will set off a chain of events that will shake you to the core. At the heart of this novel is the issue of human sex trafficking as 59 young teens are kidnapped from a prestigious school to satisfy the lust, greed and hunger for blood of a diabolical killer and predator.
Alisa and Gabe are equally matched to a point. She invaded his home thinking she would get out undetected but did not. An unholy alliance was formed to take down the man behind the kidnappings and hopefully rescuing the girls that cares still alive. She is self-assured, overly confident and he is dangerous and demands her loyalty and information she has before mining ahead .
Margaret Douglas can understand horses she is a horse whisperer and her far ranged. Sasha is being held captive by Masenak but allowed more leeway because of her ability to understand and speak to the horses. But lessons are learned and one of the girls is publicly tortured to teach her and the others who is in charge and because he can. When Sasha explains to Margaret her fears and feelings she tries to calm her by telling that it might soon be over as they are going after someone else and she might have to be the decoy to take this first man down.
Alisa and Krogan have a love : hate sparring relationship as she gives him the modified version of her past and how she came do astute at her skills being she has been in this field since she was 14.
Things escalated and she delivers one of the men working for Masenak. With Vogel and Gilroy his Krogan hopes to learn more about the operation and get the 51,girls to safety. Sasha is bold and brave and when confronted by this monster can hold her own most of the time.
Drugs will make someone talk as Zantlatin will not only make him speak but forget the interrogation. Sasha faces off with Gilroy as he hands her something to help free the girls but she has to enlist one of the girls to help her but can she be trusted as Korean develops a plan to rescue them if Sasha is successful. Added in Masenak is investigating her past but will he learn Sasha’s link to Alisa?
As the plan is enacted and Sasha uses the weapon given to her to free the girls help comes but at the end she and her horse Chaos do not make it out. Masenak wants to race this horse again mogul and baron Mark Reardon’s horse Nightshade. Placing her life and career with the CIA on the line, to take down and track Masenak, and save Sasha with the help if Korgan but not everything goes according to plan.
Many voices are heard as Alisa expresses her wants and is adamant about her priorities. Author Iris Johansen creates a headstrong, tough and strongly opinionated character that knows her strengths and plays on the weaknesses of others. Krogan is her definite equal and a strong match and challenge for her. Sasha and Alisa are well suited as close knit sisters in name only but when Masenak decides to delve into her past just what will he uncover?
Sasha goes head to head with Masenak and Chaos her horse must decide whether to help take him down. You hear the voice of the horse and her thoughts plus his voice and the competition between him and Reardon. Alisa senses trouble and she and Krogan must get to where she thinks he is hiding.
Lines are crossed and lives hang in the balance as Alisa and Krogan together with Margaret must find a way to get Sasha out, save the horses and take down Reardon and Masenak and anyone in their power.
The plan in place and the players ready to go as Krogan and Gilroy and adding Novak get ready to set the biggest trap but first Sasha and Chaos have to run a race and Nightshade might be the sacrifice they can’t stop Reardon and Masnek. A race that is heart stopping and a young girl named Sasha who is relentless and fearless as Alisa faces off with a killer it will Krogan stop him before it is too late. An ending that changes it all and relationships broken and others formed as Sasha has to come to terms with her future and Alisa and Krogan have to decide on their’ s too as the ending leaves you wondering what’s next for all three? The author brings to light the issue of animal cruelty and the need for better laws and protection as well as human sex trafficking and using underage girls. Deceptions, lies and betrayals and one horse that is strong, thinks he is the king and his name fits exactly what he cares: Chaos.
