Blind Vigil: Matt Coyle
Darkness takes over this world and what he sees is just the blackness of a starless night. Within his mind he remembers when he lost his sight before he was shot in the face . Imagine your optic nerves damages and swelled and resulting in blindness. Life took on a bleak turn for Rick Cahill as he could not longer practice his craft as a Private Investigator. Santa Barbra is special to him where he meets Leah, and they develop a solid relationship. Having to share her time between Santa Barbara and Bay Ho. Things take on a different turn because sometimes a knock on the door and a close friend that you have not seen in a long time can make a request that you might regret but Rick Cahill is about to go on a journey of a lifetime. His on again and off again partner, with a sharp and sarcastic sense of humor and personality is on the other side of the door. Yes, Moira is back. Wanting him to assist on a case involving his friend Turk who seems to think his girlfriend, Shay might be stepping out on him, he wants her followed. The past haunts Moira as she reported to a client just that, that is his wife cheating on him and he killed her and himself because of not being able to handle the news. Moira does not want this to happen again. Rick might not have his vision but just a bright light that he sometimes sees, giving him some hope after 9 months that he might get his vision restored. Rick is smart and she wants him to come on the interview with Turk to get a read on him and tell is he is playing it straight. Things get tense and he does take on the case along with Moira, but something gets his sense of smell in an uproar as he thinks that someone is following him as he can tell by his scent. Added in Turk was once his former employer and he feels he owes it to him to follow up and find out more about Shay. The night of the stakeout for some reason Moira leaves him in the car for an extended period, Rick decides to fend for himself, winds up getting hurt, losing his white walking cane and needing the help of passerby’s until he can find his way the bar. But, wondering why he is waiting for him events turn in a different direction and Rick spills information that should have remained confidential to the client. Shay Williams is followed by Moira to an upscale hotel. Rick uses his sense of sense to feel this Invisible Man on his trail. The two of them then get involved in another murder and death and Turk is the suspect.
Moira finds Rick and they speed away and question Turk in more detail Defensive about his relationship with Shay and Moira wanting to know how she could afford a high rent she learns about how Turk is helping her as they followed her to the hotel, but no one knows who the man was that she was with or the person driving the expensive car.
Hoping to do surveillance on her apartment the next day, they are surprised and will send them in a different direction as there is an active police presence and scene and the body of Shay Williams is being taken away along with Turk arrested for her murder. Defending him to the hilt and Moira having her own viewpoint they decide to go close to the crime scene and Detective Hilary Denton does not appreciate his presence and her manner of questioning and speech lets you know that they are at odds with each other so why does she want to speak with him at the station?
Rick’s voice is heard loud and quite clear and his hard nosed, straightforward and does not let anyone stand in the way of finding out the truth to free his friend, Turk that gave him his start.
Rick is loyal to Turk and when he hears someone at the scene crying it turns out to be Kris Collins the manager of Muldoons and he and Moira take control to learn more about what happened when she finds Shay’s body and how Turk came to be there with her since she and Shay ran at least four times a week. When she did not answer her calls or texts she phoned Turk to come over so why does Moira think he is guilty? Why is she still feeling guilty about John and Rachel Donnelly’s death?
Tensions rise and Rick decides to investigate on his own even though he was dropped from the defense team by the lawyer. Does it mean because he is blind he is not capable of handling a case? He is about to disprove that by requesting that Moira go with his to Boise to interview the people that might have some answers for him and the link that goes back to Shay’s past. The visit did not prove what he wanted until Jimmy Hunter enlightened him and a photo on Rick’s phone spurs a memory and suddenly the link might have been found. Added in the truth about Shay’s father is uncovered, those behind the truth will be who he hunts as Rick Cahill forges ahead, forgoes any warnings, will leap over any obstacles to help his friend Turk and prove his innocence. However, there is much more and another hidden fact about Shay is revealed, the ending will shock readers as once again author Matt Coyle takes this persistent, no holds barred private investigator to the edge of danger to prove that it does not matter if you can see or not, blind is sighted when you have a goal you can overcome it all and win when doing your surveillance during a Blind Vigil.
