The Pilot Fish
Imagine being the captain of a submarine and within minutes or more it collides with another one taking the lives of everyone on board. The Viking Trader and the Crazy Horse were the victims of serious sabotage but never knew it. The Crazy Horse is a Liberian Flag vessel owned by the Hong Group in Korea a family owned and run shipping company. The ship is less than a year old and the problem was thought to be loss of total auxiliary power due to some problem in the engine room thirty minutes before the collision. No lights, no radar, no radio, no engine control and no steering. What caused it? There was a single pilot, but he was killed on a helicopter. As it was thought the pilot might be from the Far East but they are not sure. The key is that someone designed , engineered and built the up with a lot of technology and investment there and few builders would have access to this technology. Details are described on page 11 in depth.
Moving to the director of Hong Lines who is known as HGI and the oldest member of a powerful family cartel. Wook was working late and getting more stressed. Director got a call that would create feat in him, and he was more afraid of the messenger’s boss. Trying to explain that the Hong family did not intentionally destroy the sub, or its contents and the collision could not be helped or foreseen., The family suffered millions in losses, and he reminds the messenger that he told them before you should have two pilots on board every sub, so there is a backup in case of emergency. He also told them that the bubs must be secured underneath the read of the cargo ship to which they are attached/ But their expects refused to listen and insisted the submersible be latches forward. This and did not care he came back with threats and dared him to get the submersible and destroy it. Thinking the submersible was latched onto the Crazy Horse as it excited the Panama Canal into the Mexican Gulf, there must have been over ten days of air in that sub provided the pilot while the vessel was underwater. Something went wrong but what? With the help of Captain Ken Barrett would hopefully find the answers to what happened? Were they taking drugs and money in the same direction? The money was it the payoff for the money delivered and carrying the money in the Submersibles are great way to launder it. This was just the beginning as they received a distress call form another ship that a pilot boat is pushing the stern of the barge on the other side. Things happened the action is tense, and Ken steered the PT boat back to the piece and neatly pulled along the pilings where there was sone black and blue smoke still puffed out to the exhaust. Tell Newcome to shut down the engines. All their efforts saved the HMS Warrior, and it was thought to be a brilliant piece of navigation. The scenes take place from New York, to London, Pyongya and Korea and to many other places as the young director was funding and has no idea what the American lawyer is that is taking down all his efforts and costing him millions. He would sell Chinese opium in the Western world and hope they would suffer while he reaps the profits. Added in he came up with the idea of two submersibles that could not only be used to smuggle drugs and money but would be a perfect way to deliver his atomic bombs to key cities in the United States without worrying whether the rockets would fire accurately. Where does the Wild Pony come into play and who else is involved. Just what role does Christine Fox play and how did the FBI become involved? A female officer from the Coast Guard boarded this ship to do an underwater inspection of the vessel. Added in Dalia is Joe Barret’s girlfriend and adds a special blend of ingenuity and intelligence to the investigation. Teamwork and the help of Fox who listened to Joe when he said that the sub was much larger than needed to carry drugs and that the problem was they might want to deposit and bomb New York.
The Wild Pony and several other ships were in play and would have something to do with what they were planning. Time is short and could they stop what the other side has banned. Each bomb once dropped to the seabed was on a special timer that would ensure it would go food at the same time as the other, but will they succeed? Jian onboard the Pilot Fish was reading the instructions and doing the countdown for the bombs, and then how to drop them through the hatch to the bottom of the harbor will this work and will the Chairman be happy with the result. The Chairman wanted to let the world know that it was not some territory plan but one that was well planned out and organized.
The final scenes are tense, and the result you won’t believe. Will New York be the target of the bomb, and will the enemy succeed? It all comes together in chapters 39 and 40 where author Vince DeOrchis takes us on a dangerous land and water journey until the final reveal and what happens when the countdown begins and there are only minutes and seconds you won’t believe. Joe and Ken must survive being taken by the enemy, the handcuffed by law enforcement and then hoping to complete this task before it’s too late. From real experience as a maritime lawyer in New York City the author uses his real-life knowledge and experience to create a plot that is true to life. What happens at the end will keep you wondering if Joe is going to continue cases and endangering himself or will Dahlia finally have him all to herself? What will his boss say, and will things ever go back to normal or usual for our maritime lawyer? A great novel filled with vividly depicted scenes, characters that you will want more of and learn the fate of the PILOT FISH.
