The Devi’s Road to Kathmandu

A major drug deal is at the heart of this first scene and four friends, Fred, Tim, Thierry the Frenchman they meet along the way and Dan. Each one has a special skill that allows them to coordinate and work together to get the drugs at a fair price, hopefully come out alive from where the sale is about to take place. But, not everything goes as planned as Yusuf is with them to help with the sale, but different laws pertain when marriages are arranged, and the ending of the first scene is tragic which focuses on the drug deal, the handlers, those involved and then two deaths.

All four young men are more concerned with earning money for the opium and other drugs rather than focusing on a career, jobs or anything that would be more beneficial. This is what you might call their effortless way out. Then the money is gone, Fred disappears and twenty-five years later they are called to meet and split two hundred thousand dollars.

In the present we meet Robbie, Dan’s son who is visiting India for a month and seems to be following to a point in his father’s footsteps with drugs, getting high and even meeting with his father getting high together. Meeting Maria who is his love interest everyone he surrounds himself with seems to focus on drugs and she on getting tattoos all over her back but why?
Each scene focuses on drugs and the importance of their deals, the dangers they face, the border guards and the violence and more that they face.

A complex story that spans many locations and different drug related sales that all four would profit from until Fred disappeared and then contacted them in the present but just what is the truth about the heists and what was Fred’s real motive? The scenes with the different drug dealers are quite explicit and Maria and Robbie form a relationship but not everyone or everything is as it seems. Returning to Kathmandu each one has his own reasons and Tim returns for something quite different. Thierry is there too and is married but what happens to Madi his wife is connected to the money and to Fred.

The past is created, and we get to know more about the money, the drug dealers and the four men but in the present things come to a head and we learn about Maria and her disappearance, Madi and what her fate was and why she was taken, the truth about Fred and who he really is and then the ending will shock you. Dan explains to Robbie that they were young, not cautious and yet when you meet them in the present it appears that Thierry is wealthy but the rest it’s hard to tell what they made of their lives. Hidden truths and lies come out when Thierry confesses about the emails, the money and the truth about where is wound up and why he needed it.

Dan explains how they were young, thinking it was an illusion and feeling invincible l makes it easier to die young and yet the script let them to Kathmandu but at what price? Three people killed in Pakistan, others along the way and the world seemed like they wanted it drug induced all the time.
Each one has their own story, their own pasts and their own issues in the present but the startling truth behind what Fred had done surprises them and catches Tim and Dan off guard. The ending is violent, the characters must defend themselves in ways you would never expect, and friendships are not what they thought, and it took twenty-five years to uncover some harsh realities and truth

This novel is based according to an article I read about the author that it was some way based on the  experience he had o that close acquaintance of mine had telling his story. The four friends, a drive a bus along the hippie trains form London, England to Kathmandu and in route Pakistan. This is where the deal goes bad and they hardly space a with their lives and the drugs. The journey will take readers thousands of kilometers, number acid trips, accident, night clubs and meet the Siamese twins until the read the counterculture capture of the world, Kathmandu and the story takes oof in many directions from there whey Fred vanishes. Dan backpacks with his son, meetings Maria and the past comes to the present and the author creates links to both in an expert way. The ending lets you know that for some it’s a real ending and others a fresh start. So, get on the bus, take the journey and meet other villains, thieves and the four friends as they travel to The Devil’s Road to Kathmandu.
