Walking in mud
A heartfelt journey that brings our world today explains the new normal. The introduction focuses on the changes and dynamics in our lives that have altered many of of daily activities because of the pandemic. Former Navy Seal Steven Giblin and award winning author Jon Land teamed up to write Walking in Mud. Steve shared his reasons for becoming a Navy Seal, the interview with the recruiters and the programs and intense training. They share the ten essential qualities of an underwater demolition, why Steve became a navy seal and every journey has many obstacles and the authors share those that gave Steve support. With this horrendous pandemic they talked about the New Normal and they parallel it with Covid 19 and how life has changed on many different planes. Steve shares the highlights of his career and why he was determined to become a frogman. I did especially loved the positive lessons at the end of each chapter like know your own competence and let people be their true selves. Extremely important is learning to persuade others through questions and and each chapter is on quality and the authors explain how Covid comes into play when you read chapter one. But I especially loved the prescription for healing sections at the end of each chapter giving readers guidance and hope dealing with many different situations. Our lives have deconstructed in many ways Pride is a vital way to overcome it and I love the prescription for health focusing on mental health specialists as so many people have gone through numerous life changes as a result of this pandemic. Daily routines are different and not being able to physically reach out to loved ones as I know means we need as the authors pointed out creating new routines and using other ways to visually communicate.
Other important qualities were emphasized such as fairness and the definitions and examples of seamanship and don’t blame others for your mistakes plus they talked about women who serve and they faced and some still do plus don’t feel sorry for yourself and paramount find a mentor and rekindle special friendships benefitting both parties Steve expanded and explains the frogman rules and taking about the branches of the military and young people today who might want to enlist.
A well planned and interesting book that allows readers to take Steve’s journey from the very beginning and sharing what he does now along with letting us to get to know his family, his and teaming up with award winning author Jon Land combining Jon’s expertise in writing, researching and as an author plus Steve’s unique method of sharing the health prescriptions , the frogman rules and more with a story told in his voice we understand why he decided to Walk in Mud. Steve Giblin gives readers a book that focuses on life lessons, dealing with both successes and failures plus retiring gave him a chance to reflect on his career and what he learned. Being asked to clean out an office and finding a simple piece of paper with the Ten Essential Qualities of an Underwater Demolition Man, would start him on a positive journey to learn more and a career that would take him to rise to many different positions. He became chiefs, assault team chief and command master chief within different teams. A must read book that will inspire readers to go forward during this difficult times in a hopeful and more positive way.
