Anger, fear, frustration is at the heart of Kate’s problems as she tries a rape case in court, presents the information, the witnesses so why does the jury set the man free? Kate handles the trial against Max James but never expected the outcome. Facing off with him when he pushed himself into her face she used her martial arts skills and took him down. Even though she was just defending herself her boss insisted she needed anger management classes or workshops to remain on the job. Kate did not take it lightly and attended one walked out and was invited to another which yielded the same results, but the premise of this group was to take on cases like hers and use their own brand of justice on the person that skated. She walked out , went to dinner at her mom’s which proved even more challenging. Her mom not supportive, belittles her and her brother and once again storms out. Her anger shows and the next day determined to find out why James was arrested learns what he did to his Hiroshima refused to press charges . Kate is relentless and in her own mind thinks she can turn the girlfriend against Max. Will she return to the second group?
When Kate realizes that the girlies not going to testify against James, she returns to the group, hears their thoughts and refuses to go out of the legal ways to take him down and the group does not trust her and she’s using them to take Max down and leave them after never turning back. Kate must prove herself to the group throughout the novel and yet she should only have to prove it to herself. Taking the phone from a man’s pocket to enlighten his wife or someone else was important in gaining their trust but confessing to her father in front of his grave was important Kate joins the group for a meeting to talk about how they are going to take down Max, but her brother finds her, and she is caught off guard. He claims that his mother is acting odd and that he needs to talk with her about her behavior, but she blows him off for a while is that going to fall back in her face. Even attending a deposition created friction when the defense attorney said something out of line to the young victim of rape. Kate got reamed by her boss again and it seems unfair that no one comes to her defense. Later, she attends another meeting, has a transformation of her appearance to test whether James would notice her at a party and try to use her as his next victim. Then the author shares the fact that her mother was involved in a Ponzi scheme. Will Templeton is a hedge fund manager. He invests money given to him by others but siphons off most of it for himself. Max James is the man who manages the moves, and he is the one that Kate and her team are going to try and take down. Things get out of hand when they attend a yacht party given by Templeton to gain access to his safe and his records. One member of the team Rod gets arrested, Kate gets hurt and the team barely makes it off the yacht in one piece. Each member of the team is employed: Devon at a tech company, Millie theatrical figures, Whitney as a statistician and Edgar forgery. Steven medical. Each member viewed as a particular talent what was hers? The scene on the yacht is quite interesting as they had to find a way to get into the safe, insert the Jump drive and get the information needed to get Templeton’s records and more.

As the events unfolded she learned that the vigilante group was not what she thought and the truth behind her fathers’ death was not suicide, but will she ever learn who pushed him out of the window. On the train she was accused, her father was to testify against someone in the NYPD but that was not why someone wanted him out. The corruption investigation involving hit end was nothing compared to the after he learned about dark money funding and politicians. Morris, her father cracked open a window into that people who pull strings, he would not back down. The final scenes are terrifying when Kate winds up in the hospital someone she trusted enters her room and her entire world explodes when she realizes just who the killers might be. Someone wanted James gone. Someone wanted her gone. Someone was at the funeral of James, and she finally realized at the end who was the catalyst. Her mother comes clean with the truth about why she wanted her to work for her and yet her father wanted her in the DA’s Office. Author Nancy Allen takes us deep inside the legal system, the flaws, the corruption, the judges that take bribes and the lawyers who manage to control the outcomes. Who was behind what happened to her? Who decided to take away her ability to learn more about her father’s death? What about the members of her support group? An ending that you won’t see coming and a revelation that lets you know that it’s not over yet. Kate Stone: Hardnosed, tough, outspoken and a champion for justice but will she strike an even balance? What is next for her as you read the final pages, the last page will shock you as the revelation of who is behind the murders, the attempts on her life and the truth about her father’s old partner, Victor. In the end will she remain part of the Anonymous justice group will she continue to be a force and be part of the support group for anger management: Renegade? Yes or no? Once again author Nancy Allen uses her legal expertise, her understanding of the law to take us thought he court cases, the police arrests and understanding what goes into our legal system and more.
