Death of the Black Widow

Death of the black widow

Someone is using girls as a shield in a bar to hide from getting abducted and arrested. Walter O’Brien is working with a select group of colleagues like Lincoln Sealy and Red Larson out of a nightclub in Detroit. A call to the nightclub informs them there’s a bomb planted inside and will ignite in 2 minutes to get outside. Walter does not care about taking extreme actions you see in one hour he’ll be dead.

In the past we meet him as an officer sent to check out a homicide. The sight is horrific as there is a dead body and a young girl handcuffed to the pipes in the bathroom and the stench is worse. Checking out Apartment 2d Walter and his partner Nadler find a dead male on a blood-soaked mattress in a bathroom where he finds the young woman. She calls herself Amy and claims that the dead man kidnapped her while riding in his cab and Walter is chosen to take her to the hospital and is blindsided when she claims she is sick and manages to escape.

In the present Commander Righy of the Detroit PD takes Walter apart since he is still threatening to get the person inside with a bomb. Not sharing who they are or the identity of the person they are seeking, but all the authors allow us to know is that about  you won’t believe the result. Amy is the Black Widow and in his past in 1992 she is the one that escaped.

Walter is chewed out but not dropped and as time goes on he becomes obsessed with finding Amy or whatever name she is using at the time. As time wears on and he is working with his upper-level partner you realize that he is a rogue and the two of them have different approaches to handling a case. When another body becomes known he and his partner learn that it is an investigator hired to follow this woman’s husband and hopefully get back the money she gave the PI.

Throughout the novel we meet Walter in two time periods, and you realize that he is obsessed with finding Amy who has numerous aliases and will stop at nothing until he does as we learn in the present.

Walter winds up in the FBI working with Lincoln Sealy and other as the death toll rises and the files increase. The death that brings him back to the present you won’t believe and when he goes after the person in the bar will not be revealed.

Walter is obsessed with finding this girl and every step of the way he and Brayman find bodies and the authors bring to light a disease that would cause young people to age quickly. Could she be killing people with her touch and is Walter feeling guilty for the deaths of so many that he’s risking his life, career and more to stop her?

Lives were sacrificed and Walter was obsessed with this phantom girl as her names and appearances changed her motive to kill in an unusual and grotesque manner. Walter’s partner is sacrificed, and the games are just beginning. When the authors recap the events in both timelines they scenes begin to blend and the visions you will encounter shocking . Alvin Schalk killed by blunt force. Page 307 describes it in detail. Amy Dugan, Sister Archer -Gillian killed 5 people. Amelia Dyer another alias and each part of the team has his own agenda. Just who was Sealey and what was his goal? Then the similarities became known, and the girls killed looked around the same age and Golston followed these murders for over 40 years and who were all the targets, and you won’t believe her weapon. Walter was do determined in both timelines to get her that he becomes irrational and delusional at times. With this girl he thinks holding him captive and waking up in the hospital you don’t know what is real or not . Bodies everywhere and all she had to do is touch the person or persons with her special brand of death. Twenty-three people injured and four dead and no one can tell why the shooting started or why these people. No one could agree on anything including the shooter. In the now Commander Rigby had her orders but would following them save lives ? What about the bomb? Chapter75 seals his fate, and we learn the one thing that might destroy her, but chapter 76 tells it all but in the end who wins, who is sacrificed and who gave it all to try and finally end it with the death of the black widow but did they ?

Characters that were corrupt, and ending so terrifying and yet so tragic when we learn just how obsessed Walter was with this person and what Walter is told: on page 440 and why can’t she shake him? But fear is overcome by his passion and desire to care for this dangerous creation of a person he designed in his mind. Why did he waste life hunting her? Why did she draw him in with her cunning and lies? Read chapter 82 if you dare. What authors James Patterson and J.D.Barker create as the final revelations on page490 meet them all but as Walter’s fate is sealed. All his life he denied the truth and could not turn off his feelings for her love, understanding, a strong bond or unrequited love? The last page and last lines make you wonder what’s next and what really happened to her and the tigers hunting her. Fate brought her into Walter’s life why?
