Listen to Me

Listen to me : Tess Gerritsen

Blood types are indicative of how you can prove your lineage and who your parents are. Imagine finding out but in an unusual way. A young girl falls into the street and winds up in the hospital with no recollection of how it happened. Was she pushed or was it really an accident? Amy’s story will be told throughout this powerful novel as she and several others will reveal the power of truth, lies, deceptions and deceit. Angela Rizzoli seems to have taken on the role of community leader and welcomes new additions. When the Greens move in a red flag goes up and she does her normal welcome, brings her favorite bread but these people are unfriendly , cold and you get the feeling they want no part of her or anyone in the community. Scrabble is one of her favorite pass times and her three friends, Larry, Jonas and Lorelei enjoy the game and a night of gossip and sharing whatever is happening. The conversation centers around the Greens and the moving truck pulls up and the wonder what they will place behind closed doors. Then the conversation moves to a missing teen named Tricia Talley and here is where things get tense.

Sofia Suarez has been murdered and Jane Rizzoli and Barry Frost are the leads on the case. The murder scene is gruesome and searching for the murder weapon was paramount. Searching the house and looking evidence to identify the killer Jane gets interrupted by her mother telling her that Tricia is missing but it’s not the first time she’s disappeared. Jane says to call the precinct in charge as she and Frost question Lena Leong to understand what might have happened. Was this a burglary, break in or something else?

As the case progresses information cones to light about a man named James Creighton and a link to Sofia as the look at her phone records, computer and phone and with the help of a smart teen named Jamal thinks fall into place and information becomes known, he helps many of the people in his community with creating emails, downloading the internet and go them do research. Jane wants him to explain what he did for Sofia as she tries to find out who she called, emails she received and who owned the burner phone what caked did she make. Maura Isles working the autopsy reveals her theory of how she died and the possible murder weapon. But Sofia a respected nurse learns something when working in the ER that would take the investigation in a whole new direction that you won’t believe. As Angela chose on her on detective spree checking out the new neighbors, looking into their windows not seeing much plus wondering what the husband was up to, why the bars on the windows and then a revelation you won’t expect as Tricia uncovers a harsh reality, Lorelei finds out about a deception.

Jackie Talley is Tricia’s mom and enlists Jane to try and find her, but her husband Ricky seems unconcerned why?

It’s more complicated when the murder of Sofia links back to one 19 years ago and the death of a women? a three-year-old child missing. Where is the father? Who took the child ? Was it even reported?

Amy when released from the hospital could not remember anything and when questioned she blanked out and yet she thought she was being stalked and kept seeing the same man repeatedly following her but not able to identify him.  Julianne seemed concerned and Mike Antrim her stepfather always there for both.

Adding some humor and intrigue author Tess Gerritsen lightens the mood when we learn that Maura is going to play in an amateur concert if all doctors and the lead pianist. As calm as she is professional when doing an autopsy, she’s the opposite when practicing and getting ready for this night when everyone was invited and so much depends on her performance. But the case in Jane’s world comes first and we get to know Alice Frost an odd match for Barry. Added in Angela is still going her own surveillance of the Green’s and an incident that happens will require calmness, quick thinking and more as a truth vines out and a man is shot taking Jane away from the concert and hopefully finding her mother in one piece. Events move in many directions as Jane questions people from the murder in the past and hopes to link it to the present.

Rick Talley is abusive, and his wife has yet to report it as Tricia is missing and the reason has yet to be revealed. Angela is determined to find our more, checking out the white van that turns up all the time and Jonas seems interested in her but when s confrontation arises and it’s dangerous you won’t believe what she does.

Lives are at stake and reputations will change as you the reader learn more about Amy, her mother and the hope of finding the stalker. We get to know Dr. Mike and realize his loyalty to her and her mother but underlying it all is a secret that will send Jane and Frost in many directions and a truth that will shock you to the core.

With the help again of Jamal Jane uncovers a lot about Sofia and hopefully will find out who killed her and why but it’s not that simple as you will learn. With his computer skills a lot is uncovered as the author allows us to learn more about Ricky and Jackie as a game of scrabble will turn into more than spelling out words with the tiles.

As we begin to learn more about Amy, Jane starts you piece the past with the present and then her mother ventured out one time too many and is kidnapped will she be freed?

An ending only author Tess Gerritsen can deliver as shockwaves spread through an entire community and everyone learns about the deception that has been perpetrated and you as all should know when your mother speaks as Angels says remember: Listen to Me!
