Widow and single mom, Jennifer River Petersen goes on a quest that takes her journey as a truck driver in Energy Territory No1 formerly known as North Dakota. Driving truck with the purpose of getting paid enough money to pay off her debts and hopefully back to her daughter and mom, River enlists after her father’s death and the lines of her life are now redrawn.

The source of these territories is run by an unscrupulous and security firm and the territories become lawless places where laws are no longer followed and fear over the population is paramount. The U.S.isrecovering from many terrorist attacks that took away our civil liberties and two states. Cunningham faces many obstacles including those created by the security firm she put in place.
Meet Finn the son of the President who is a hydrologist in the US Geology Survey in Montana. What he discovered are environmental changes that affect the nearby western waterways and realizes the taste of the water is off and he is investigating why.? Both River Finn team up to go against Redmond Pierce and his team but one member is playing both sides why?
As the story develops we get to know Finn and River as they begin to deal with their pasts, her losses and his parent’s separations because of the outcome of her becoming President and dealing with her choices. Richard has been out of her life and Finns for two years but with her resources and security plus drones flying over everywhere and monitoring the movements of the people, she is able to know where he might be but what happens when Finn is missing and then realizing his situation.
When River and Finn team up and realize that the person behind his danger is the man who runs the security firm and thinks he’s invincible and that the President works for him. Fear over what is happening in the territories and that he wants to make Pennsylvania another territory for more oil and displace more people. He is deadly and his assistant Cooper is playing both sides, but will he survive what Red has planned?
The reunion between Richard and Elizabeth is compelling and they discuss their pasts, goals and hopes. Richard explains to Finn about how he feels about the Territories and why he left because of them. The confrontation between her and Red lets you know he has his own mission and goals in mind exclusion the President’s and the country. He wants Pennsylvania and she feels it’s not necessary to export oil and dominate the world markets. What does it have to do with Russia’s satellite countries? To her face he says she’s the obstacle and needs to be removed. But when she tries to place him under arrest what happens shocks readers and the result takes a life of someone close to her, but Cooper saves the day by saving the President. Then Cooper explains to her about Finn and River. As Richard and River asks questions and the tension lessens between them will they develop common ground? Both relate their pasts and River states what she hoped for her life before enlisting. What his goals are frightening and will destroy the country and divide the people even more. As Finn and his parents plus River recount events, Finn states how it started because of data he was collecting. He knows there is no question the stream and River segments in the northern part of the stature getting warmer. There are more anomalies that he explains, and they also learn more about Cooper and why he had to keep his true purpose secret. But who is the prime target of red’s anger and knowing the CEO of Universal is planning to overthrow the government? Then a piece of paper that River explains sets the FBI on a collision course to stop Red and his troops but will they and what about her speech? Pages 180-185 are compelling as the author allows readers to hear the words so many would cherish and embrace in our lives in the present. Finn must learn the fear of war, death the gravity of potential war and destruction. But no one could anticipate what Red did next and how he planned to carry out killing the President.
Author Evette Davis creates a world that does not allow people to congregate , being vulnerable and hoping to create a country governed by our peers and hoping to restore past of one of the states that became a territory. Lives hang in the balance and River must face her own insecurities and fears before moving ahead but will it be with Finn? Red wants to create a civil war and overthrow the government in a last-ditch effort to take power and destroy our freedoms even more. Even his prejudices against women in power overtakes him and the author creates an ending that for some might consider a beginning . With an opening scene that sets River on a mission to create her own means of dealing with the types in the territories we learn from the start she’s a powerful force. The author raises many questions about Ives, losses ,hardships and freedoms that have been taken away, but will the world created by the author remain the same or will the government be restored in some ways before the attacks? The power of forgiveness and love. In the words of Dr . Martin Luther King: I have a dream that concludes :”free at last ! free at last! Thank God almighty we are free at last! Will that happen in the world created by the author of the territories that are 2 and the states 48 changes?
