Lingering
Within your life you have times when you just can’t let go. Times when a place, or an incident stay within your heart and mind, and you can never leave it. Paul and Christy decide to place a bid on a house one that they think will bring them happiness and a change. But little do they know after they enter the house, see it for the first time, that their lives will never be the same and what this house is, you won’t believe.
Dealing with the fact that her father abused her and her mother, Christy learns that her father had a stroke and feels she needs to take care of him. Why? Never once caring for her. Never once treating her life a daughter, why does she go back to the past to hopefully survive in the present lingering in the house longer than she should. Her father is cruel, and she takes care of him letting him he better not even try anything, or she will end it for him on the spot.
Paul has a surveyor check out the house and someone to deal with the satellite, someone to deal with fixing the television and more. When on repair man comes in to create wiring for the internet in the upstairs bedroom, you won’t believe the words that fall from as if someone is trying to tell him something. But what?
Croft House has something living within its walls that Paul discovers while his wife is tending to her father and then cleaning it out and ridding herself of his belongings and memories. Dealing with the funeral home she decides on a cardboard box and a sheet to cover it. No emotions and then just cremated. The solicitor tells her that his neighbor who came once a day to help with meals and more got the bulk of the estate. She could care less. Finding a letter after twenty years that her mother wrote, enlightens her to why she left, how and where she was but in all that time she never reached out to her. Why?
Different incidents within the house not only alarm Paul but Maggie their lab who senses things more than they do. Why does she hide at times and why act strange?
The author flashes back to why and how Christy ran away from her life and found a place in a movie theater to hide and an office that had a dirty couch and some packages of crisps. Brian the manager found her, and her life took on a positive turn and his parents let her live with them and put her through law school and the diploma. She now works for Brian.
Paul creates manuals for products that his company produces, and they are so user friendly that more people are using the manuals and buying the products. The author flashes back to help readers understand their pasts as well as the present.
The fuse box was odd, the three master breakers in off position, and Paul sent out, turned off all the lights but how had he been able to turn on the light in the loft? Ms. Gillott the neighbor who got it all, the social distancing in the hotel they enjoyed and then Paul taking apart the boxes, putting things away and standing outside Croft House, the properly was beautify but then a vision appears. What or who was it? Where did it go?
As Paul explored the house and tried cooking it arrangements, things happened that alerted him to another spirt or more. Creatures, rodents, bats and another unexplained thing plus images appear out of nowhere. Christy has nightmares and what is described would make you run out and never come back. Is it haunted, possessed or is someone playing with their minds and gaslighting them?
Finding sone documents and learning more about the history of the house they learn someone named Emma was killed there but who killed her. A letter or paper from Emma tells where her remains are but who is Daniel and what is his relationship to her?
More unusual things happen that take Paul into a trance and Christy wondering what or who is creating damage, images and hands coming out of the television, oven hob not working, water not boiling and more terrifying happening. Author Chris Coppel takes us deep inside the many rooms, loft, outside and more creating fear, terror and violence plus poor Maggie hides and leaves deposits she never did before. Would you stay in this house? Why won’t they sell it? What is the final revelation?
The ending has many unusual twists and a heartfelt reveal. Just who is causing the havoc? What does Margaret say when she enters the house again? Will Croft House be their home? Take the tour, endure the odd and frightening happenings and you decide what you would do? Spirits , ghosts, letters from the dead, an odd meeting with someone from the past and dead leaves, cobwebs, rodents, bugs, animals and other unusual creatures and obstacles that have made this their home and in the end which one or ones will remain Lingering?
